I will 100% support unestablished IPs, and incidentally, I find myself [far] more pleased with those purchases than those from big-names like Tamashii, Hasbro, Mcfarlane, etc., these days.
I do understand the hestiance, but I actually really like when you dip into third party and smaller companies and bring your experience and acumen to bear on them. This thing looks amazing, too. We're in a pretty significant boom for smaller companies and lines and seeing work like this emerge has been exciting. I'll look forward to supporting Rival when the time comes!
Yes! Digigrade legs would make them look more savage too! Please make the digigrade legs double jointed though and have articulation at all points in the leg to improve motion
I'd love to see you review more indie figures! Your reviews are super useful and I think you've made it clear over the years that your reveiws won't be biased just because you're working on your own line. Yes, I collect things that aren't from an established IP. More so since the Habsro price increase. Some examples are Animal Warriors of the Kingdom, Nottaa, some of the Mezo original stuff. Based on a combination of it looking cool and having good articulation.
Wow what an incredible product. Now this is the kind of art I look for in an action figure for my collection. Rarely is everything in one package, but this could easily go with Veteran William or Blademaster. Initially curious to see your reactions on a product such as this, it was a great video watching how enthusiastic you get when there is a good product in your hands.
Yes, I collect action figures of an original IP and I factor in the design and articulation when buying, e.g. Furay Planet Veteran William which is an amazing werewolf figure. :)
One of the most intricate and amazing figures I've seen in a long time! The only thing that I would change is the human skin tone colors in the front and make the feet larger. I would totally buy original figures from a non established ip if I wanted them for a stop motion project of mine too. I hope you do get to review more like this!
I love collecting new ips mostly because these indie studios and third party can afford to take more creative risks like the whole furay planet line and can sometimes lead to insane figures with some of the best paint apps and sculpting I’ve seen but anyway great review and I hope you keep doing more like this
I bought this about 6 months ago (different version, I believe) and I think it's awesome. Mine is orange and doesn't have the drastic paint contrast -- which I like.
This figure looks awesome! The base of it without the gear in would make for a perfect custom King of Dinosaurs from King of Fighters XIV and XV I've bought from obscure or lesser known brandss. I recently got the Alphamax DarkAdvent model kits mostly because i was in a store and had never seen the box before. And i mostly got it due to the fact it had cover art by Masatsugu Saitou who was the character designer for Xenoblade 2 and 3, and Expelled From Paradise I forgot to mention that the articulation and engineering of the kits are pretty amazing, especially compared to other abime girl kits from like Kotobukiya or even some sh figuarts Great video as always
I saw these dinosaurs' action figures appear on bbts and it interested me, but for the price I wanted to hear someones reviee of it. Epik that this video has appeared before all of our collective eyes watching this video currently!
I really appreciate this review and type of review. I've been curious about this line and this review really helped me make a decision to get this figure. Thanks for all the detailed explanation as to why this do and don't work on figures.
A lot of small companies are putting out really good cool stuff, and I buy a fair amount of it. As far as how I know what to buy, it’s thanks to reviewers like you.
When I saw the thumbnail, I had to watch this review. I love watching your videos on unusual figures, even if they’re not something I’m personally interested in collecting 😛. And for what it’s worth, having watched your videos for a while, I absolutely trust your objectivity in reviewing indie figures
The indies coming out of China, S. Korea, etc are giibg absolutely NUTS!!! Producing some absolutely beautiful figures. I dont have many but will def be trying many more!
I got a few like the fury-toys spring(not leo) and also the furay-toys Veteran William(Werewolf) and got a few others on pre-order! I like that indy third partys going to produce something the big ones doesn't want to or far far in the future...their will be also coming a streetshark line kinda!
First off, I'm always personally impressed by your knowledge of non-human animal biology lol Words like "scutes," "plantigrade" and "digitigrade"ーthat make *most* people (or so it seems ‐.‐) kinda' go, "Uhh huh?" I dig that 👌 As far as the figure goes, I love it. It does have kind of a Neca/Storm feel to it. The aesthetics are amazing. I feel like they could've done a bit more with the paint on theーI dunno... pink/peach parts; but the darker parts, with the crimson accents look great for the most part. And the eyes are really good too, very menacing hehe Typically, I don't care for cloth or felt on action figures, but it looks like they did this well enough. I actually like the way the fur looks on it. Lastly, as per the question of the day goes: yes, I would happily buy a figure just based on how it looks. Of course, I'd prefer something that has some kind of franchise behind it, but if a figure looks good enough, I'd grab it regardless.
Thanks for the detailed comment. My knowledge of anatomy comes from being a sculptor/designer so it definitely helps to create better informed reviews. I agree about the colors. I would have made the pink more grey or the grey more red/purple in order to blend the two areas better.
I collect primarily mainline stuff like Black Series, Legends, and GI Joe. I have gotten a few items from more indie companies/designer toys lately because they are putting out interesting stuff. I would consider Mezco and Four Horsemen to be indie companies despite their huge catalogues. I am also liking the anthropomorphic animal lines from Maestro Union. Veteran William has so much versatility with his looks that it was a no brainer for me. So yeah when it comes to indie figures I just get what is aesthetically pleasing to me, but I always check reviews to make sure that the figure doesn't break, fall apart, etc.
Hello Anthony, are you planning to review more gi Joe classified series figures? It’s super popular now and for the price point it offers a lot. I believe a lot of your viewers, including me, would love to see you reviewing more of this line.
@AnthonysCustoms I actually am in the process of selling my whole G.I. collection off. The characters have gotten so obscure that they don't excite me, and then there are a lot of re-paints. I understand the need but just painting a figure Crimson and now its something new is just has becoming a cash grab.
Most definately collect obscure small companies. What I have found is little companies are like the AVIS commercial against was to HERTZ car rental. They just TRY HARDER when it comes to sculpt, accessories and articulation. Also these small indi companies have the best chance of becoming future collectibles. Maistro Union FuRay planet Crocker started being a alternative concept for Ninji Turtles Leatherhead or DC's Killer Crock but NO MORE Maistro Union stands alone as a premium brand and FuRay Planets Veteran William is selling out purely on word of mouth and is on EVERYONE'S top 10 list for 2023, and now the Weng blade master Tiger is setting the community on fire. Surprised you haven't reviewed those yet especially Veteran William which is considered close to perfection.
I used to only buy characters i know, but sometimes there are figures that looks amazing and have much better detail and articulation than the IP ones that i just cant resist buying. That happened to me with the headless horseman from myhitc legions, and the furay planet figures(the werewolf and the tiguer). In fact those are my favourite figures from my collection
it´s a really great figure with surprising articulation. the only slightly annoying thing is the armwrists and the hands could have a more solid grib for that huge weapons
Long time ago I used to collect figures from known properties but now I buy more things like this just because they are really cool looking, I'm into the fantasy figures my main line is Mythic Legions
When collecting from an original IP or any IP established or otherwise, I mostly grab what I think looks cool or what I like. However, for Original IP's Sculpt and Paint is a huge influence on my decision to buy something, great Articulation is a nice bonus but not necessarily and deal breaker if it doesn't have it. Mostly I grab things that I like. If I like something and can afford to get it at the time, I see it, I'll get it. Like this figure on Looks alone is a reason for me to get it, as it would look great on a shelf or in a display.
Id be more interested in this if the head felt more....proportionate. I love the Plunderling family of indie figures. Can't wait for the new ones to arrive shortly.
I don't do it very often, but I do collect figures from indie branches even if they're not from established IPs, as long as the figure looks awesome and the price is justified by what they offer, chances are I'm gonna get it.
I definitely enjoy original IP figures. I pick them based on their ascetics and if I think they will fit in with other figures I have as villains or allies.
I collect mythic legions, i dont know if they are indie but majority are not pre-established IP. I go for the aesthetics and/or it has cool accessories. If a figure looks cool, ill give it a chance.
for your question. ill collect things outside the popular norm. i like this it looks cool but it cant just look cool. i want articulation more than just look cool. why i like the synthetic humans so much from 1000 toys.
Its harder to get invested in non-franchise stuff, but I can if it has a strong visual identity or artist behind them, like some of the Beastbox and 1000toys offerings. Even then it usually comes down to which ones look neat.
Good review. If they wanted to make an anthropomorphic dinosaur dude, wish they would have went with a consistent gray skin tone. The transition to the peach color is really jarring.
Fairly reasonable review. I like you reviewing this and consider this to remain objective and unbiased as your other reviews. I think if one can afford these figures at this price point, this is a lot better than some of the bigger companies out there. I sometimes think this is better than getting crappy cheaper things.
such an amazing figure but the color choices are so odd looking to me, wish they made a green one like the carnotaurus ones they made as I feel like that green would have been perfect for this trex out of all the colors I think the red one looks the best, the black one looks pretty cool too but that pink is a little strange.
These days, I collect mostly from indie companies. Mythic Legions/Cosmic Legions, Valaverse, Savage Crucible, a few others. One of the common denominators being the owners are toy lovers/collectors/designers themselves, that create with their hearts to put out a great product, which is almost always better and cheaper than main line or established companies. I still grab up the occasional cherry picked Joe, or Transformer (which I've been a huge 3rd party fan of) but it is getting more and more infrequent. I've always been one to try and support the local economy, as it were, and love meeting and conversing with these companies at toys shows, when the opportunity presents itself. Most importantly, they care.
I have some Rumble Society figures from Mezco. Though they give them a little bit of a bio on their website I feel they encourage you to use your imagination towards the figure line.
I would like a good paint job on my indie figure dry brushing, shading, wash etc. Too many hasbro figures have no paint so that would be an amazing change
Yes, I coillect stuff that's not an established IP. Valaverse, Mythic/ Cosmic Legions, JoyToy, Furay Planet, Nottaa, etc. Truth is, I sometimes prefer the Indie stuff because they always seem to put more effort and heart into their projects.
I will collect unestablished IP figures if it is something i really like and somewhat fits the 6-7" scale. More likely now than before (buying less figures but a little more expensive and unexpected ones). Right now I am getting all the non-exclusive FurayPlanet figures and already got two carnotaurus dinos from Axytoys. Was really looking forward for this T-rex, and for now I am very unhappy with painting. Their previous two figures were greatly painted but here the difference between "outside" color and "belly" color is...weird. Probably the exclusive color version is gonna look better.
I dig new properties, I've actually moved almost entirely away from legacy IPs. I do obey the "rule of cool" it has to appeal visually, but then within that, articulation, especially range of motion, is key. I actually don't mind having to do painting chores, that's my favorite aspect of customisation. And I'm learning to sew cloth goods, so getting them on the figures is fine, but i don't mind making accessories either. But i find the smaller toy companies (i hate calling them third party) are far more willing to explore new visual aesthetics, new or better articulation, and varied scaled, and most of the time, they're willing to pack so much more into the box per dollar than the big companies do. I'd much rather buy fewer figures that are more standout and unique figures than another 10 Spider-Man figures. To boot, as an overall, i have pieces in my collection from 5 decades of toy making now, and i consider my collection a micocosm of the evolution of action figures... so at some point, i have the hasbro figures represented, i have the mattel figures represented, they're not innovating anything anymore. These small companies are giving us ornate sculpts, expressive articulation and enough accessories to allow me more than one display option. They're TRYING and they're advancing the artform. I want those advances in my collection. That way, when my kids are liquidating the collection after i die they can go on this tirade about evolving art to the poor shit trying to buy my toys. 😅
Man, there are a lot of these anthropomorphized animal action figures in the 6/7" scale coming out of China/HK lately. Started with the Aligator, which could've been an off-brand Leatherhead from TMNT, and then now there are TONS of them from different companies. What's up with these?!?!? And they're pretty darn good!
Yes, I collect figures that aren't from an established IP. I just enjoy a good toy: decent articulation, cool design, fun features, a new twist on something that I've never seen before.
I personally like to buy based off the look and articulation. I look to reviewers like yourself to give me a baseline (thanks btw). Indie or established companies, I’ll give a shot. Also, great review, may pick up the violet version later (not that much into pre-order).
Yes, but only after watching reviews where the quality is nice, it's in stock and sold on BBTS preferably. JoyToy, Mythic Legions and Maestro Union Furay figures for example.
I like collecting independent figures that fit into other franchises I collect. Mainly Resident Evil, MOTU and GI Joe. Also, this T-Rex figure is sick, I'm not a fan of the pink color though. This would fit really well with other MOTU figures.
Honestly the salmon pink kills this figure it would look so much better if it had been left off altogether with just the darker colors grey and reds blended in…. And at 110 bucks textured joints could have been used those smooth obviously plastic Toybiz ball joints are eye jarring…. Otherwise this figure is pretty cool!
I have the bear body version on preorder I can’t wait. I own a few dinos of this line. I only ordered the bear body because the trinkets it comes with can’t get very overwhelming. But other then that great figures nonetheless
I collect unestablished IPs! Or IPs that I have no emotional connection to. But it has to do with a lot of things. Cool looks, cool themes, good quality (meaning great sculpts, paint and or articulation), price, etc. For example, I collect Mythic Legions because they not only make knight action figures (a theme I love!), but because they look amazing, have great sculpts and paints, decent articulation and plenty of accessories. Price is also a big deal of course, Mythic Legions are really amazingly priced in the US but internationally they are harder and more expensive to get. Still, they are really worth it. Another example is GI Joe classified. No, they're not indie but I have no emotional connection to the franchise. I've never watched the movies, the cartoon or comics. But I buy a few of their figures because they tend to be well sculpted, have fantastic articulation, plenty of accessories, and are readily available and at a decent price. Or Neca's Warduke, another figure from a franchise I have no connection to but I bought the figure because it looks incredible on the display. So there are a lot of reasons. Personally, I never liked dinosaurs enough to buy toys of them, so this line and others like it don't appeal to me at all.
Usually if I buy something like this it’s because I think it could fit in with figures from another series. Like this one wouldn’t look bad fighting the ninja turtles for example. Tho obviously how well executed it is also goes into consideration as well as price.
I disagree with Anthony on the digitigrade legs for one reason: you run the risk of making the figure hard to stand and pose. Yes it looks cool but usually, it's more trouble than it is worth.
I buy what looks cool and has decent articulation. For example I got few Astrobots because they look neat and their range of movement is amazing (even tho their legs are little limited).
That is one beefy dino. Very thorough review - nice job! I am not opposed to lines not attached to an establish IP. I actually wish I had more resources to devote to such things, but I collect a lot of stuff and both money and space is a factor. I really like Boss Fight Studio as a company and I'd love to jump into their Saurozoic Warriors line. The line has a nice retro look, but with modern engineering, I just don't know what I'd do with the line at the moment though so I've held off. In general though, I'd much rather give a company like Boss Fight my money over one like Hasbro. With smaller companies, I at least get the sense that the people working on the figures actually like what they're designing and have the consumer in mind as opposed to just regurgitating yet another Spider-Man or Batman to keep the stockholders happy.
I'm willing to buy a figure that's not from an established IP as long as i think it's cool, interesting, impressive, etc. As long as it piques my interest, I don't mind.
I decided if I want to add something to my collection that is not from an established I.P. by if it can interact with what I have collected. Wilderness Hunter Crocker is my stand in NECA movie Leatherhead. I buy goblins to fight my Goblin Slayer, Conan, and Link. Bought 6 movie Storm Shadows and 6 Marvel Legends Paladins to be jabroni fodder for my figures to fight. If a character looks cool, and is generic enough to fight my other characters, I don't mind buying them.
I do collect from non established IPs. If it’s fits an aesthetic I enjoy or it is making things I don’t think established ips will ever do like eastern culture/mythology figures.
I get alot of stuff that is not established IP. Xesray stuff, got some of the Furay planet stuff like veteran william and the tiger i forget his name. got some mythic legions, valaverse. I get stuff that are not official as well...like i got a huge "Diablo" Figure from 5k toys..thing is sick.
I love indies, I would rather spend my money on the little guys. Valaverse, AWOK, Mytbic Legions, Plunderlings and Mighty Maniax and more on my shelves. Looks catch my eyes first but a great story or lore will keep me interested.
Anthony, we believe you bro. I'm not sure that you could "shill", if you tried your hardest! Lol! You're just not built to be a liar and that comes thru, QUITE clearly! Sik
I do have a bunch of model kits that aren't based on an IP, but this figure would definitely not be something I'd be interested in. Too busy, to much of the pink showing in joints, too expensive. However, if they produced some of that armor in 6in scale, that is something I might be interested in.
I will 100% support unestablished IPs, and incidentally, I find myself [far] more pleased with those purchases than those from big-names like Tamashii, Hasbro, Mcfarlane, etc., these days.

The price for this figure with the scale, accessories and detail makes you wonder why we pay so much more for SH figures.
I got my bloody spawn violator for $25 brand new recently. Not that was a great deal considering the details and plastic you get.

Got this guy preordered first day! Got the black one.. dude is so cool lookin
I would like a good paint job on my indie figure dry brushing, shading, wash etc. Too many hasbro figures have no paint so that would be an amazing change
If something looks cool and is well engineered I’ll give it a shot for sure.
I have wanted so bad to start collecting these. Reminds me so much of TUROK. A bit pricey though. But please review more of these
Yeah, I get stuff if it looks cool. I do have 4 of the AxyToys BF Dinos... they're fun. I'm planning on getting at least 1 of the TREX
Please do more indie companies! It's soooo much better than most toy companies, imo.
The other two versions look better
That thing is Wild! 🤘🖤
Depends on the character design for me. Now this is what I call an action figure 👍
Yeah we'll buy it because it looks nice and something different than usual
Yes. I love Mythic Legions. I don't need an established IP. If a figure looks cool and sparks my imagination then yeah I'll most likely get it.
Yes if it looks cool and fits into all the other 1000 plus figures
Cool looking figure.
Yes, but only after watching reviews where the quality is nice, it's in stock and sold on BBTS preferably. JoyToy, Mythic Legions and Maestro Union Furay figures for example.
Im sold pre ordering this and just ordered another 1 with the spikes on its head
I got carnotaurus leader. He’s great. Lots of detail. I want this one, just not sure what color.
For the qotd, yes if it looks cool enough. These guys have been on my radar so this review is great
That looks amazing 😮
if it looks cool and it has a nice price tag I'll grab. I do want this thing but the price is high for me.
Duuuude, you have to do an exception for furay planet, every figure its a cheffs kiss. And you are like the Gordon Ramsay of the figures
Typo on the box rear text. It’s says “hige temperature” versus “high temperature.”
I cannot wait for you to review the demoniacal fit future gohan
I'm surprised they didnt do 2 fingers for his 'hands'
Great sharing~😃
I do collect from non established IPs. If it’s fits an aesthetic I enjoy or it is making things I don’t think established ips will ever do like eastern culture/mythology figures.
I get alot of stuff that is not established IP. Xesray stuff, got some of the Furay planet stuff like veteran william and the tiger i forget his name. got some mythic legions, valaverse. I get stuff that are not official as well...like i got a huge "Diablo" Figure from 5k toys..thing is sick.
3rd Party stuff has been getting very good. I buy them to round out my 1:12 Marvel / GI joe or 1:10 Thunder Cats / Motu Collections
The soldiers from Turok
Cool fig, nice tootsies!
I have preferred it more if the head of much larger kind of like the street sharks figure of the 90's. But that's all just preference I guess.
Sik
I appreciate that
Wish they make a 1:18 version
I do have a bunch of model kits that aren't based on an IP, but this figure would definitely not be something I'd be interested in. Too busy, to much of the pink showing in joints, too expensive.
However, if they produced some of that armor in 6in scale, that is something I might be interested in.
Imagine if his arms were little iddy-biddy arms.
Great review. Very kitsch
