I was briefly aquainted with a defector. The person was terrified and moved every day. EVERY day. Having been homeless several times in my life, I had empathy for this person's constant state of impermanence but obviously I couldn't fathom what this person had been through to get to that point. The stories were...horrendous. my heart broke for them.
Thank you so much for using your voice to educate the world on what goes on behind the closed doors of nk
    Now I know why.

You should get it back without giving the thief the money. The regime is the thief in this example, who stole the people's freedom...

Girl! While I was growing up in Indonesia they had a restaurant named "pyongyang gardens" in Jakarta that my french friend brought me to. It was all North Korean women and North Korean propaganda on the TVs! They were dressed like these girls. Food was good but I bet less than anybody in NK gets outside of the main prefecture. It was so shocking to me as a teenager because I'd heard the truth about the regime from my friend who's grandparents had run away from NK and also from basic history. Very brave of this man. This is really strange. I’ve actually been to one of these North Korean restaurants in China. A few years ago I was a guest of Jilin University. While I was there my host took me and a few other people to a North Korean restaurant. It was actually a really nice place, and they did have singing waitresses. I had assumed that they were Chinese people who were ethnically Korean (sort of like an Irish pub in America). I had no idea that it was anything like this. The Chinese people who brought us told us not to tell the people at the restaurant that we were American. Also, I had a friend with me who was South Korean and he was terrified the whole time.

I don’t mean it in a cruel way, but maybe they were better off dead in the end. It sounds like a horrible existence. The people close to the top of these regimes have to do terrible things to keep their status as well as suffering as victims. I can only imagine many of them end their own lives. At least the lower class can live in ignorance of the truth but those levels know there is no hope at all for a life. They are totally trapped. 4:02 the location of that restaurant is in North Jakarta, Indonesia. I recognise it from the language and phone number (area code 021). the restaurant has been closed since 3-4 years ago. they stated it simply went bankrupt; but there are many mysteries surrounding that place, because people said it was always suspiciously empty, or perhaps only 1 or 2 customers went there. very dark, quiet and eerie. all the waitress are young north korean ladies, mostly cannot even talk in Bahasa (Indonesian language), only able to say basic sentences like "want to order?" or smth. rumour has it, the restaurant is a cover up for North Korean spies / secret agents, they never admit it tho, obviously.
