HOW TO SERVICE SPONGY, LOOSE DISC BRAKE | BLEEDING DISC BRAKES | TVS APACHE RTR 200 BRAKE BLEEDING

  • Hello everyone, In this video we will discuss the solution for spongy, loose disc brakes. Lack of feedback due to air in the system can be solved by bleeding the braking system.
    This process is similar for almost every motorcycle with disc brakes. So you can apply this for loose, spongy brakes on Bajaj, KTM, Suzuki, Honda motorcycles.

    That was one very informative video. Everytime i see your videos i just wished i had the Apache. I dont know if u remember or not, in one of ur long touring videos i said ur videos make my confidence more strong of buying Apache. Unfortunately I didnt get it, waited for 1.5 months for the matte white model but they said productio isnt there as of now for matte white. So after waiting for long i opted out and bought Fazer25 instead. Fazer25 is also a great bike but it cost me more. Anyways.... Great video once again.. Kudos to you!!! 😊😊

    Hi Dude, Thanks for this detailed video. I followed this for my rear brake system in my RTR 200 ABS version and brake started leaking somewhere near control unit beneath the seat. What could be reason for that? Is that because, I once started the bike just to check the brake performance while doing this process?

    Please make a video for ABS systems also. Did some DIY with the ABS system, now the front brake doesn't get tight. ASC says it will get tight with time, but have already ridden 200kms after that. There seems to be no air in the system as when bled only liquid comes out, there are no air bubbles. And I've done the bleeding part almost 7-8 times already but no progress.

    Small question - on ABS brake setup, does the pumping needed while braking to improve the power coz single pressing hard is not effective. One more thing when u pull the lever, it stops at a point and if u pull it full further with force then the lever goes back a bit. Is this normal?

      If you spill then immediately wipe it of with a absorbant cloth/tissue don't rub it while removing it.

    Great presentation brother..Simple and informative as always.
    i have a question.. i own 2017 apache 160, and as you are aware of the vibration issues like every other apaches, i have managed to reduce the vibs to a great extent by constant visiting at the tvs authorised service centers.. now vibs hit the bike at around 60-65 km/hr(previously around 50km/hr).. I feel that this vibration can further be reduce to some more extent if i change the brand of engine oil. presently i have been using the fully synthetic oil supplied by tvs.. I had a conversation with the service centre guy & i asked him if i can change tvs FS oil with Motul 7100, to which he said dont do it now as your bike is under warranty and if anything goes wrong in bike be it anywhere, during inspection TVS may reject your claim by pointing out about non using this recommended engine oil.
    The mechanic is a nice guy and he has a good knowledge about the work but you tell me if he is right.. Cant i switch oil brand during warranty?

    • @thesportztourer
      @thesportztourer  6 лет назад +1

      The service center guy is right as TVS can have their say on engine oil in case of warranty & there are many cases with other manufacturers as well regarding engine oil.
      TVS has mentioned about the recommended engine oil in the owner's manual. Same applies to any electrical accessory you install on your motorcycle. Warranty also depends upon your service center as they are one who deals with most of the cases.

  • @jayasuryahanumanula1695
    @jayasuryahanumanula1695 6 лет назад +2

    Dude your videos are very informative
    But meanwhile the brake oil you used is dot 4 and the previous oil was dot 3 you shouldn't mix them both as they are completely different in their properties dot 4 is the best one as it has high heat resistant properties in it
    So make sure that you get it changed by flushing the whole oil and refilling it with dot 4 one

    • @thesportztourer
      @thesportztourer  6 лет назад +2

      Hi,
      Yes you are right about mixing brake oils when it comes to DOT 5, otherwise you can always mix DOT 3 with higher standard DOT 4 as DOT 3, 4 & 5.1 all are glycol base fluids which are totally soluble & retains their properties of non compressibility & heat resistance when mixed. However DOT 5 silicon based brake fluid is non compatible with these brake oil.
      I agree with your point of not mixing them as it beats the purpose of using superior brake oil it is similar to mixing mineral engine oil in fully synthetic engine oil.
      Thanks a lot for the input Jaya Surya as it will be helpful to many riders visiting the comment section with doubt 👍

    Any news on whether we can add the abs setup of new RTR 200 abs version on older RTR 200s?

      Hi Aditya,
      Its a very expensive process plus TVS won't be liable for any warranty on the motorcycle.
      I have asked the service center and there are no recent plans from TVS to retro fit the ABS in non ABS models (no training provided to them).

    very nice,
    but you have used dot 4 on the reservoir instead of dot 3. since the bleeding done was incomplete.
    You need to bleed till you see the dot 4 fluid coming out.

      Hi Shreyas,
      You are right if we are considering DOT 5 brake fluid, otherwise you can always mix DOT 3 with higher standard DOT 4 as DOT 3, 4 & 5.1 all are glycol base fluids which are totally soluble & retain their properties of non compressibility & heat resistance when mixed. However DOT 5 silicon based brake fluid is non compatible with these brake oils.
      Again I would agree with you on totally flushing out the old brake oil as brake oils have there wet & dry boiling point which can reduce the performance of new brake oil. My brake oil was almost new & my problem was different (air in the system) so I decided to top up, which is perfectly fine.
      I will try to come up with video on completely flushing & maintainance of the calipers very soon. Thanks for your input as it will help many riders reading the comment section 👍

      if the fluid in the reservoir is new then its not a problem i guess..
      All the best mate !

    I have an apache rtr 200 , Oct 2016 model, done just 4300 km. I am not getting enough feedback from my front disc and the bite is totally vanished. Should I consider changing the disc pads. If yes then should I go for stock or after market ones.

      Hi Malay,
      4300km is a bit early for the brake pads to wear out.
      Check out this video where I have shown how to inspect the brake pads for wear: ruclips.net/video/lBrvgRH-6LA/видео.html

    Should we go for this DIY maintenance for the ABS brake systems?

      Hi Arunava,
      The bleeding process remains the same for ABS equipped motorcycles (might take some more time).

      @@thesportztourer ok sir, now I understand, the brake line will go through the ABS unit.. so it will take a little long time, thanks for the info...👍

    I opened my front brake fuild box just to check the brake fluid and when I closed it I've noticed a tiny bubble inside through the measure hole on the box. Is that tiny bubble a problem? (Apache 160 4v)
    There's no issue with brake performance though.
