Many might not know this but this song was included on Nixon's famous 'Black List'. Sky will never get the credit he deserves - he certainly didn't get it while he was alive. Trippiest 33 days of my life, working with that man...
"He used to live in an apartment in a big old city.../But he decided to move to a little tiny town/He wanted to be a farmer all year 'round" These lyrics always made me think this song was about Oliver Wendell Douglas, the lead character from the 1960s TV show "Green Acres." He was a successful lawyer who lived in New York City but moved to Hooterville to become a farmer.

@MrRaiderfan1000 'Almost Famous' was a movie that came out in 2000, I think.; If I remember, correctly, the song was featured in the movie, but, not on its sound-track. If you look on Wikipedia & see the 'Sound-track listing' section for the movie, I want to say it was in the sub-category of 'Songs featured in the film, but, not included on the sound-track', but, I could be wrong. If it's not there, then, it's on the official sound-track listing. Check it out.
I was 10 years old and hanging out in the studios of KRLA which were across the street from where I lived in Pasadena. I always wondered what sort of organ Daryl Hooper was playing throughout the song. It's the coolest and still stands up today.
Rap music thirty years ago was actually pretty decent. It was cleaner, more innocent, and the lyrics weren't full of vulgarity and violence like today's rap. Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow.....those were some of good rappers back in that time.
MF DOOM? GZA? Listen to Cold World, sure it's about violence but that's literally the world they grow up in. Using music as an outlet for those things and to bring awareness to a thing or to start a conversation about said thing isn't such a bad thing.
First Time I actually got high, I was in one of the corridors of St Cyril Church on Ventura Blvd, SFV in 1969....St Cyril was where Annette Funnicello was married. When my Buds told me that, I almost pissed my pants from laughing
My grandma was alive back then and she always had tons of stories about growing pot and going mushroom hunting in the 70s lol. I would've loved to have been alive in that time
im 48 and even 30 years ago ppl listened to meaningless disco and rap shit. its not a question of age, you just have to remember that 90% of humanity is without personality, following trends when they are told to, eat what they are told and behave. if you want to be yourself it is going to be a struggle....but always worth it.
The problem with that is there was just as much dross, garbage, meaningless crap and why-did-you-do-that in this period as any other...and not all "disco" music was meaningless. I would put the Chic rhythm section up against any other one of its time, and especially drummer Tony Thompson. And not all rap is "shit" either...some people like any kind of music - others only one kind. People who liked the Archies are entitled to that. Or Jay and The Americans. Or The Four Seasons. Or Swamp Dogg.
@@caribman10 46 here and I agree there is a lot of shit to sift through. I used ti go a club that played Jungle and rap and it was Awesome. I was also a total trance head for a lot of years. That was really great too. I'm still a guitarist that likes Vai and Satriani but also Beck and Al di Meola and John Mcglaughlin. I got into a lot of world music and all i can say it is a universal language. Luv and Peace.
@tthomaselli2 I don't know what you mean by famous but it did get a lot of air play in Southern California. And if it got airplay in Los Angeles it was good!
That won't last long. Imagine the stories you then can tell. I was killed many times, when you detach from the experience, it won't bother you at all. What is your 'cross', sir? Remember if the mosquito's don't get you, the gators will!
@tthomaselli2 You could of fooled me. Just like the music of today I care little of movies. Most of the time my wife drags me out to a "good movie' I am often disappointed. Thanks for your input anyway!
@ peartfan........ME FUCKING TOO!!!!!!!! i should of been born the generation that actually produces proper music unlike the BULLSHIT they call music today!! like what is wrong with the music today...im 20 and wish i was 50 cos atleast i would of been in the era of amazing rock and roll...if only there was a time machine! ha dreams a free... :(
You are funny, and you are right! Good luck~ But I still hate posers, and the hippies added nothing to the wonderful 'journey' of life. But, I still have my hair, that's one thing I have in common with the hippies. Hope you still have yours :)~
The Seeds and Buffalo Springfield were my first concert.... The Swing auditorium in San Bernardino, Calif. when I was 15.
Lucky you!

I loved the 70's. It was the best decade for music! (Only my Opinion)
This is 60s stuff, son.
You just may be right... ☺️😉
This always reminds me of Brian Griffin during one of his psychedelic 60's Andy Warhol moments.

When my Buds told me that, I almost pissed my pants from laughing
that organ sound is unmatched
I imagine they were living the life back then. Living on a farm, growing weed, smoking, making music. Just had to make sure not to get caught...
My grandma was alive back then and she always had tons of stories about growing pot and going mushroom hunting in the 70s lol. I would've loved to have been alive in that time
Badass Groovy Drum Beats 🥁🤘🏻
