I'd imagine the ancient people making mythologies on how Earth and the Moon were siblings

    • @perpetualsystems
      @perpetualsystems 4 года назад +392

Taking greeco-roman mythology into account, the moon would then likely be named after either Erebus (god of darkness), Nyx (God of the night) or Uranus (god of the sky). a good candidate however is Aether (personification of heaven/upper sky)
In regards of ancient Egyptian belief, their mythology didn't involve as much inbreeding as greek pantheon, so the Gods didn't have children. The closest deity would be Khonsu, personification of the moon and the passage of time.

It would be fascinating to imagine how our history would be different were that the case, especially is our sister planet had water and life on it like we do. Interesting thought.

They said that the lunar surface has been bombarded with energy from the sun For thousands of years... The lunar soil apparently has absorbed this energy. So if you heat up the soil to 15,000 degrees Fahrenheit, you can extract that energy in the form of helium-3.

And even then the extracted end result is just the regular kind of helium (along with it's energy and maybe a neutron or a proton, don't know about that).

    2 things:
    1. I have a guess that the moon in this scenario is filled with a lot of giant bug-like life (especially flying) more akin to our own ancient history. Low gravity paired with chitin and flight could get pretty OP.
    2. What if they hold the same reverence (and potentially desire for expansion) and visit us first? Especially if their world is green? With the lower gravity, they’d have an easier time reaching escape velocity, and the big problems would likely be protecting against crushing gravity, extreme cold, lack of oxygen, and other space stuff.

There are multiple factors to take account of however.
      1. Can we even manage some form of communication? There could be a language barrier. If they can even speak like we can.
      2. Are they advanced enough for radio. They could be very primitive.
      3. Will it disrupt they're way of life? They or we might want to them to develop their civilization naturally.

If the Moon were habitable, life would probably be very similar to Earth's. If the panspermia theory is correct, then similar asteroid fragments that brought life to Earth would have very likely brought it to the Moon too. Having the same starting point and a similar distance from the sun, I'd think you'd probably see very similar evolutionary outcomes with maybe some slightly different body types (lower gravity means larger organisms could walk around freely on the land, and smaller hearts would be needed to pump blood against gravity, birds and flying animals could have thicker bones because they don't have to overcome gravity as much to take flight). It's a really interesting idea!
I think the biggest factor would be the difference in day/night cycle. The moon takes 27 days to rotate. How would THAT impact plant life? Would there be animals that essentially go into short hibernations during dark days? Maybe different sets of eyes that can see in the dark or daylight, or semi-transparent eye coverings that block out sunlight during the 27-day long day? Maybe migratory animals that stay in the sunlight or darkness constantly? What an interesting concept ugh! I love it. So cool!

You have to keep in mind the effects on the ecology of the Earth. Many of Earth's creatures (and many insects) use moonlight for navigation. A habitable green and blue moon (or some other color if life gave that world a different hue but in either case it certainly wont be a bright white like today's moon is) would probably not be as bright as our moon is so it wouldn't be as useful for that purpose. It's not just human history this would change. It would likely have ripple effects across a significant part of the Earth's ecosystem.

While it was a war of humiliation, the original goal was to determine the Spanish heir. What there is to wonder about is whether or not Germany stays united or breaks apart for some time due to the defeat.
It is highly unlikely France would have annexed anything, they were already walking on eggs since Napoléon III was Emperor.
It does mean however that he would still be in charge, and considering the system was made more and more libertarian over his reign, it is doubtful whether or not a new republic (or crisis) would emerge after his death.
Still, it has to be admitted that our land army was extremely outdated at the time, our artillery sucked compared to the germans and we couldn't get any initiative, so that's a really outlandish scenario

Love the kerbal at 7:20. What’s the alt history for a livable moon developing its own intelligent species independent of the earth?

I wonder if there are moons out in the universe that developed intelligent life on the both the moons and the main planet and they started communicating long before they ever could visit one another.

Ahahah yeah... in that timeline the space technology would probably progress quicker bc there would be a need for faster space transportation. Or not idk

@@mihapetek3418 I agree. If we were looking at a blue-green moon our whole existence, I'd imagine we'd at least *attempt* to get there with 1700s technology and probably figure it out by the 1800s, easy.
