Don't think twice, build this plane. I got about 30 mins of flight time just coasting low and slow with a 2200 mah 3s 30c battery, a Park 450 890kv motor, with a slow fly 9 inch or 10 inch prop. Absolutely awesome!

That's my favorite type of flying ... low and slow, just cruising with big swooping maneuvers, relaxing and enjoying the beauty of flight.

+1 This is a no regrets build project. I also built a 60%, ok but the full size is superb.

Hi Curtis! Thinking of building a Storch. How did you like yours? Did the model stand up over time? Hard to build? This will be my second build. Thanks.

There's nothing difficult about building it as I recall. Everything is straightforward as per the build-video. It did take me longer to put together than I was expecting. I'm not sure why? I did a little extra work to strengthen the wing center (I've heard that can be a weak point if you aren't super careful.) And then I did a little painting/detailing. Maybe the trickiest part (?) was bending the landing gear wire, but the build-video is very clear and it doesn't have to be perfect.
I think the model holds up as well as any of them ... if you take care of them they can fly for years. Mine still is in perfect condition, although I'm not a person that is able to go out and fly all my airplanes every week. But after maybe 20 flights (?) it is still in great shape. I highly recommend it for pure relaxing type flying.

@@CurtisOlson Thanks Curtis O! I'm so impressed that it flies so well at slow speeds - that's exactly what I'm looking for. So far, I've built an FT Explorer, an FT Scout, and an FT P-40. The last two are just within the last month and I haven't flown them yet - but I'm a new, and so far terrible pilot (crasher, more correctly) The Explorer flew very well when an experienced pilot flew it ;-)
I have been looking seriously at the Storch as my next build, and your video convinced me that it's a very good flyer. Also I like your paint scheme - is it patterned after the Swiss?

@@StephenRosenbach I did some googling and found a picture or two of a swiss trainer version. I wasn't trying too hard to be 'scale' so I just used what I found online as a loose guideline and made it up myself. Basically I spray painted the whole thing "sunflower" yellow from a local hardware store rattle can, and then added the tail red/cross and put on a couple stickers (including window stickers.) I tried to keep it super simple, but a few touches at the end can help the overall presence a lot.
Definitely get some local help learning to fly if possible. That will make things so much easier and fun. My quick one sentence advice is get the airplane trimmed out and let it do all the flying. Your job as pilot is to touch the sticks as little as possible. Once you have the correct CG and good trim adjustments, the plane knows what to do better than any of us!

@@CurtisOlson Thanks again, Curtis. Yes, I have joined the local RC club, and they have good instructors. Here in Massachusetts, about 20 miles north of Boston, we will probably need to wait a month or two before we get some decent flying weather, but I'll be ready :-)
