I just never got the racism vibe from Micbael Richards. I sww that video when it came out. It was so hard to watch, but none of it felt racist, it felt like a guy trying to shock and then he decided "Well, i can't back down now" so he doubles down, and turns into one of those situations most of us have had, where you keep talking trying to explain what you meant, and you keeo digging yourself deeper and deeper. It just didn't seem like anything hateful in his head at all. It was nerves and lack of repa at stand up but going into a lions den.
He also did stage comedy at a time where there wasn't crowd work & heckling would get you kicked out unless it was people booing you offstage. & if you ever watched the movie Man on the Moon about Andy Kaufman, there's a scene with Andy acting stoned and not saying his lines so another actor dumps food on him & grabs a que card from the guy holding it next to the cameraman & shoves it at Kaufman . Well in real life that actor was Michael Richard's. He may play goofy characters but he seems to have a bit of an attitude problem.

Usually when a public figure has a true nasty streak exposed , others will come out with stories of similar experiences reinforcing that perception. I’m not aware of anyone proclaiming a racist incident with Richards after this comedy club disaster.
