This is actually a very good video and very informative on Magellan's voyage. There are points, particularly early in his talk, where I disagree with his interpretation of the historical context, and even the motivations, of the expedition. But he has clearly done a tremendous amount of work on researching the original accounts of the voyage. I think that maybe his is a book that I will seek out.

The only motivation of the expedition was Money. Getting to the spicy land would mean a lot of money. They arrived back with only one ship and it was more than enough to pay for it all. ¿ Can you imagine if they were capable of bringing back all the ships full up with species? It would mean a real big fortune. The religious factor means nothing but it was a big factor due to the religious fanatic sickness of Magellan and others at that time. Why did Magellan leave Portugal? For the same reason Columbus left Portugal as well: Money and Glory. Well By the way The Portuguese were at those islands with plain control of it 10 years earlier and El Cano saw them there as well! Magellan had a friend there informing him from time to time by letter.

Agree, he is wrong about the maps (The Waldseemüller map, printed in 1507), wrong about sea monsters (ruclips.net/video/iUvMr86UZq4/видео.html) and wrong about spices, the portuguese had been trading for many years. Magellan had spent 8 years in Africa, India and Indonesia. That's why he spent so much time talking about orgies. Plus, it was politics at Portuguese court that led him to Spain, with many others.

“Pre-literate cultures” When in fact the pre hispanic filipinos has an established writing system even before the spaniards came. It was called Baybayin. Transactions were made verbally and in writing. Long before the spaniards came to the shores of Homonhon, Limasawa, Sugbu, Bohol and Mactan, Filipinos were already sophisticated in terms of literature, trade, governance, criminal justice system, engineering, goldsmith and diplomacy. The Oriental civilization in that part of the world were thriving unlike Europe at the time.
The Europeans were debt ridden and looks for something they can cash in. Voila! Colonization and the rest is history.

Magalhaes was killed by the Spaniards, not by Filipinos.
the Spaniards made up this episode.
Magalhaes had a very bad leg, he couldn't not walk very well, he got a damaged knee in a battle, in Morocco, serving his king as a soldier.
When he demands for a pension, Manuel the king refuse it, so he goes to Castilla, to serve Carlos l and offer his knowledge.

@@vitorsilveira2762 They could have help him to get back to the ship yes they could instead of running away so quickly, however he was not that damage so that he could still fight and strongly as he killed immediately the one who sticked a harrow on his face he removed it from his face and killed the native with it! Then he was alone in the middle of many enemies. He made the enemies, he paid for his mistake and for his religion obsesion, the reason of most conflicts even nowadays. Underestimating the real value of other people can't bring any good result especially when he was provocative and abusive.

Magalhaes was a portuguese agent like Columbus; the portuguese knew about Brazil well before 1492 but they were interested only in species( where the money was at that time). So the plan was to divert the spanish to that "new land" before they could compete with them while assuring the main route to ths spice islands and at the same time seize a portion (Brazil, moving the latitude of Tordesillas treaty) to secure the gulf of Guinea. Obviously they didnt know about the size of the land ( a full co tinent) and its wealth but finally they managed to get to Molucas and control it

From Pigafitta's account: Magellan killed by Datu Lapu- Lapu a chieftain of very fierce warrior tribes society in pre Hispanic Philippines. This tribes is a descendants of Sri Vijayan kingdom and has a culture like the Vikings they painted their body everytime they win on war or they kill enemy, the more paint on the body, they more people killed.

Magellan was busy converting hindoos to Christianity,
But then he tried it with the Muslims in the Phillipines
A King, Dato LapuLapu ended Magellan conversation by the sword,
By killing him and dismembering his body. This only happened because
Magellan attacked the Muslims to try to convert them. Burning their
Villages and killing the inhabitants. Dato LapuLapu is the greatest warrior

Crusades were a response to over 400 years of Christian oppresion by Muslims in the holy land, which Muslim armies conquered after mohammeds death.
Spanish inquisition was to filter out heretics and stated viewed traitors pretending to be Christians.
Islam's spread through out Arab, Middle East, North Africa, East Africa, iberia peninsula via Conquest and not missionary work, which is justified in the quran. You must be an alter boy. Did your cat-o-lick priest say all this lies to you.
Here your lies are rebuked by Christians:
Catholicism in the Philippines during the Spanish Colonial Period 1521-1898 ( by Christian priest and historian father Jiseus Musaaih)
On Easter Sunday in March 1521, Magellan arrived at Limasawa, an island west of Homonhon Island, where Magellan’s missionaries conducted the first mass on Philippine soil. Participating in the mass were two ruling brothers: Rajah Colambu, ruler of Limasawa, and Rajah Siagu, ruler of Butuan in Northern Mindanao. Both rajahs kissed the cross and prayed with the crew, making them the first Filipinos to encounter Christianity. Afterwards, Magellan and his crew decided to sail to Cebu to convert more Filipinos to Catholicism. The first recorded conversion in the Philippines took place on this island on Sunday, April 14, 1521 when the King and Queen of Cebu and their subjects embraced the Catholic faith during the Sunday mass. On that day alone, according to one account, Magellan’s priests baptized up to eight hundred Cebuanos.
Columbus himself was doing forced conversion
      Forcing Religion on the Indigenous?
Another achievement that Columbus is awarded is the spread of Christianity, more specifically, the spread of Catholicism. Coming from a religious nation, King Ferdinand and Queen Elizabeth were in full support of the spread of Catholicism. Many Catholic head figures, including Pope Leo XIII praised Columbus for bringing the truth to the Natives. Although the spread of religion can be seen as a good thing, his actions were harmful towards the Indigenous people. Columbus forced the Natives to convert to Christianity and begin practicing this new religion against their desires. Who’s to say that the Natives wanted to practice Catholicism? In order to advance is personal gains, Columbus disregarded the interest of the Natives and forced them to practice a foreign religion. “By his toil . . . hundreds of thousands of mortals have, from a state of blindness, been raised to the common level of the human race, reclaimed from savagery to gentleness and humanity, and, greatest of all, by the acquisition of those blessings of which Jesus Christ is the Author, they have been recalled from destruction to eternal life.” The idea that Columbus did the Natives a favor by bringing religion to them is what pro-Columbus advocates use to continue the praise of his actions. The Natives are painted as savages that needed to be shown the truth, but this idea gives justification where it cannot be-the actions taken by Columbus cannot be justified.

Transliteration of the Ancient Filipino Writing Systems such as the Sinaunang Baybayin (ᜐᜒᜈᜂᜈᜅ͓ ᜊᜌ͓ᜊᜌᜒᜈ͓), the Mangyan, The Hanunuo, The Buwid, The Tagbanwa… So please correct this comment of yours since you are an Academic and you should no better than calling These AncientFilipinos, Pre-Literary.
