  • There have been complaints about noticeable piston slap on the Holzfforman G395 saws. I decided to tear down my new G395 to examine the reason and replace the piston with a moly coated Duke's Performance piston before running it.
    Here's a link to the Duke's piston!

    Cajun recommend your channel, and I am impressed! I have learned a lot on my very first video from your channel. Excellent!

      Thanks, I'm glad I could clear up some confusion on these saws. After the piston replacement they should be pretty good.

    Thanks for all the information. I am a woodcutter in BC, Canada with an unsuspecting passion for powersaws, learned a lot watching this video. Been learning about porting and experimenting with it for a year or so, saw cajuns video recommending you and now I’m gonna binge on your videos haha 👍

    How even possible to draw that circle free hand, good content, interesting video. Well done.

    you maybe able to run a forged piston an it will swell and take up the clearance

    Holtzfforma did have a issue with the piston. They have fixed the issue and supposedly all new 395XP’s have the correct piston in them now.

    Very helpful video! So many things I didn't know like piston taper and the formula for clearance. What bore gauge were you using, or what do you recommend for a first purchase?

      It's a no name I bought off ebay similar to the fowler extender bore gauge.

    Judging by the squish band width, smaller combustion chamber, larger lowers and piston slop they copied a used ported top end. They probably wanted this to perform well when released so they wanted a better performing top end. When I was comparing the FT cylinder to an oem there just seemed to be a resemblance to a machined work saw cylinder. Idk maybe not. I had a few AM pistons and I just measured them til I found one that fit the best and went with it. I’m not sure of what brand the piston was but the skirts were longer by about 40 thou so I had to re time my porting. Also I had the coil die after a couple runs which was weird it just completely stopped producing spark with no warning lol 😆 so I ordered a 15$ Amazon coil and we were back up and running.

      The intake and exhaust durations are longer than an OEM cylinder but the transfers are timed the same. The exhaust bottom and the intake top port edges are close to OEM locations so I suspect it might have been a slightly ported but not machined cylinder. It you used a piston with a 0.040" longer skirt it was from a 394.

      @@srcarr52 That’s definitely possible on the piston. It was just a bunch I had bought a while back and dug them out for this. I just found the squish band width odd compared to the Brazilian oem cylinder I compared it to.

    I’m planning on buying a g395. Do you think the piston upgrade does the trick?

    • @srcarr52
      @srcarr52  Год назад +2

      Yes, it runs fine after swapping the piston. They may have already corrected this issue and you won't need to swap pistons.

      Hi have you been able to confirm they have corrected this issue? Also what's your take on the carburettors? Cheers
