I think yous are being far too harsh on Valle guys. Yes, he slipped a couple times. But there were several moments he made key quick decisions that kept us in the game. He made some terrific recover runs to stop a last man one on one with GK situations. Give the young lad more time. He has potential imo.
People focus too much on aesthetics and emotions imo. Valle did so much right but a slip or two (neither of which cost a goal or anything) is enough for people to forget all of that. He barely lost a duel the whole match, had a goal line clearance etc. as you said, but he still gets slated.
A "smashing" to me is generally any game that you lose by 4 or more. A few caveats would be if it was say 4-0 at HT but we got a late consolation goal and/or a deflected goal and it ended 4-1 or 4-2. On paper 4-2 is not a "smashing" but any game that is done & dusted by HT is a smashing IMO. Or if it was 3-0 at HT and it finished 3-0. Again that falls in to the "done & dusted by HT" category. The flip side would be 1-0 down with 10 mins left but we then get a very harsh penalty/red card scenario and suddenly it's 2-0 and we're down to 10 men. We then lose two late goals, one of which is a deflection..... On paper that's a 4-0 pumping but it was a game that we were well in for 80 minutes. So the FT result obviously matters but if it's a heavy scoreline it'll also depend on the manner of that scoreline. Dortmund was an absolute "smashing" by any criteria.
I’m not trying to excuse bad performances but coming to this club as a new singing must fucking brutal the expectations are just crazy so I think we need to cut the boys some slack give them some time to really gel into the squad
Never seen Maeda as poor as he was,Kyogo is so unselfish the runs the guy makes but never gets it,we pass pass pass, then he's offside, one long ball and we score from his run in behind
We cannot go into the Atalanta game playing the way we did against Dortmund. As with that game, I worry about the impact a skudding has on our squad. We’ve been poor since that game as a result (in my opinion)
Arne Engels has 2 goals and 3 assists since arriving on deadline day, man of the match contender in our first champions league game, good performance in the first half against Aberdeen despite the narrative people are trying to create. What more do you want from the lad?
The amount flight time and miles that both Hatate and Maeda did is a big factor. Long haul flights take it out of the body, especially with no real recovery time ( Arriving back on Friday)
I agree and it seems pretty obvious, which begs the question as to why it isn’t obvious to BR or any of the coaching staff & sports science guys at the club
Some of the chat around Engels is a bit harsh. Yes he's not lived up to the "record transfer" that we paid for him but he's not been dreadful. All last season we were bemoaning the fact that no-one was spotting Kyogo's runs, well who spotted his run on Saturday to help set up the first goal? He was also very unlucky not to score himself when he hit the bar early on There's a reason he was a regular starter in the Bundesliga at 19yo There's a reason he was a full Belgian international at 20yo I agree we need more from him but I think he will improve a lot in the coming months
Not sure if it is the world we now live in but there seems to be a lack of patience with new players coming in and a rush to make pretty black and white judgements. Kuhn is the perfect example. Writing off players after a handful of performances is less than ideal.
I'm expecting a scudding as we are psychologically scarred from a number of heavy defeats in the CL this past decade that we have the football equivalent of PTSD.
While Trusty is an LCB and is being played as an RCB and that explains some of his flaws, it doesnt explain others like his unecessary fouls or bad positioning (how many offsides has he broken so far jesus) all concerns I had after looking at his stats at Birmingham.Hopefully he'll grow into it as Scales did but so far I dont see why he should play over Nawrocki (I guess not being made out of glass is the only reason). Dont get the Valley hate. He did some insane tracking back when we lost the ball literally all over the pitch to win it back or break counters, hes been doing plenty on the attack. Needs ab it more physicality Aberdeen exposed our weaknesses which is what should happen when you face a decent team and for that reason I thought the game was really good. Also your argument kindof falls apart when you say start Palma instead of Maeda if the latter is tired 😂 Id say our 2 biggest weaknesses right now is lack of depth on the wing, outside of Forrest we dont have anyone who can maintain the level of the starting 11 as well as the lack of a good 3rd CB
Re: tired players after international duties You don't hear the Real Madrid manager using that old chestnut. They just go again, again and again. Fair enough, they have far more resources than probably all the SPFL teams put together, but everything's relative. Celtic ARE the Real Madrid of Scottish football, i.e. financial, fan base and higher quality players on and off the bench, so to use 'tiredness' is Only an Excuse. By the way, lads, I'm an Aberdeen boy, and I think Thelin, tactically, took Brendan to the cleaners in the second half. Just saying. Good show Mon the Dons ❤
i see Engels as a big Belgian Brut. By that, i see him as a big Defensive Midfielder. I see him in that African Dictator role that Wanyamma did so well. Not sure the big man has that pace for the number 8 role.
Mellie hit the nail on the head. You bring all these guys late on in the window they're playing catch up to how we play . That transfer window was a shambles in terms of just that. The board have had an easy ride . The , waiting to sell oriely before we buy was disgraceful. Your now seeing the true extent of that in the last 3 games . The dortmund game laid it all out especially. Atalanta will be licking their lips
So ,let’s no criticise Scales for the first goal even though he got beat for pace! Is that not the problem ,he’s got limitations when you play at a higher level!🤯
It very much looks now that CCV is gonna be a bit part player. I really fear for us vs Atalanta. They are lethal. But we’re going round in circles with Europe vs Domestic. Greg Taylor - get him a contract he’s been brilliant, Greg Taylor - he’s a fish out of water and no good enough. I understand why Jamie’s a bit angry this week. Valle, Trusty etc etc. There’s nothing there that makes you think - ok we’re solid here. AJ, Trusty, Scales & Valle vs Atalanta…. That’s worse than those horror movies you talk about Jamie…. Damn… 🤞🤞💚💚
@@craigsteven6255 Lol Taylor is a good SPL level player and has proven it for seasons. Valle might go onto better things in the future but what has he done so far in his career? how much first team experience has he got. He is also of a similar size and strength to Taylor. The fact you thought he would come in and take over from an experienced player shows your level of football intelligence is quite low. Valle was a panic buy along with Idah and trusty.
"The post dortmund form" 2 games. 1 of which was right after an international.break where we are always a steo off it. Same players you were creamin over 5 weeks ago. Calm yersel doon
@@20MinuteTims True but our "pre-Dortmund form" was - Played six won six (in the league) 20 goals for and ZERO against. That is not sustainable in any league campaign and there was always going to be an inevitable dip and a few sticky results Even if we'd never played Dortmund at all, the odds of us continuing to win every game by an average score of just over 3-0 until the end of the season, were slim. So I think there is a danger of reading a bit too much in to the Dortmund result.

I like him too, 4 games ffs he’s young and showing some composure in tight situations

He should be able to play on the right hand side, but I don’t think we’ll see a 100% comfortable Trusty until he plays as a left centre back.

Let's not tell fibs. A couple of our defenders fall short in Europe. Brendan has an eye for an attacking player. But he struggles to spot a defender.

who would have thought the top 2 teams playing each other would result in BOTH teams extending their lead over Rangers lol
The 'Dortmund Mounting' as i call that game now. Let's hope celtic doesn't get an Atalanta Probing
McGregor and Engels being off the boil is enough to derail our performances.
Not good enough, they'll just have to get the finger out and be back on the boil
It’s been the international breaks that have cost Celtic players travelling all over the world 🤦♂️🤦♂️
We know how Atlanta game will go. Well give away an own goal/penalty/sending off in the first 15 mins and that's game over.
