I went on a 2 month road trip with a friend. I carried a big ass tent, sleeping cot, camp chair and all the clothes I needed on a 1300 V Star Tourer. It worked. While it can be done, this year I went out and spoke with Kompact Kamp. Like you, I'm not much a fan of sleeping on the ground, and even on the cot, it was a bit low. That camper trailer will make it easier to get a good night's sleep. I looked hard at the Aluma line of utility trailers, but the one I wanted was not far off the price of the base model camper trailer.
Does it still track well since you shortened the tongue length? Have you ever checked the difference it made on tongue weight between the two tongue lengths?
I’ve got the same trailer and looking for a swivel coupler, same as what you haven your trailer Can you let me know where you purchased yours Cheers Andrew
@@mrkmh1 When attaching chains to a vehicle, always cross the chains. Crossing the trailer chains aids in turning the trailer by reducing the probability of stress. It also acts as a cradle in the event of separation from the tow vehicle.
nice but seriously OTT for camping. Back seat takes the tent and airbed everything else in the luggage light stuff on a top box rack. The smaller the trailer the better. i need to take two blow up kayaks tent and GF on a pan so might need a trailer or a pair of modified panniers to hold the kayaks
I went on a 60 day trip last summer and hit up all but 2 states west of the Mississippi River, as well as 2 Canadian provinces. I used a V Star 1300 with saddlebags. I was able with nothing more than a tail bag, and the space in my saddlebags able to carry enough clothes, and supplies for such an adventure. I didn't even have a luggage rack installed then. I do now. It can be done without a trailer. It can be done easily, with your bike looking clean and not overloaded. It IS easier with a trailer. Having done multiple state trips over the last 10 years, only now am I considering putting a lightweight trailer on the back. I like the style of the trailer you are using, and it would be good to lock everything away in. I could see a good use for that. You made a good video, so keep up the good work. Keep on riding, and stay safe out there.
Very nice set up John! I too hope to have a Wing & trailer one day. Thanks for the videos......laughed like crazy at the video of your trip in the blistering heat :o)
Sorry it took so long. Yes the open outfitters is a great trailer, I talked to the guy that sells them for the company, they come in several different configurations, but their not cheap.
The Goldwing can pull a great deal of weight. This trailer is 18 cubic feet inside, I`ve loaded it with camping gear and I didn't know it was back there riding down the road. However, the Goldwing is made to pull a load, so it depends on the bike.
Hey John . . I just purchased that exact Lumina XL trailer. Can u elaborate more on the procedure for shortening the tongue. Its an awesome idea and I want to do the same to mine.
Sorry it took so long to respond. This trailer was $1500, that`s reasonable. This trailer came with a free swivel hitch. I bought a spare tire from them also.
Hey, sorry it took so long. With the Goldwing you don`t even know it`s back there. The mileage is a about the same depending on how much you load the trailer. The Goldwing weighs a 1000 pounds, and with the 6 cylinder engine, and a swivel hitch on the trailer, it pulls it just fine.
Good video very informational I pull a trailer myself with my bike but I think Scooter Tramp Scotty would beg to differ that you need a trailer to haul all you would for a several week long trip, he has been on the road non stop since 1994 on his ultra classic Harley and he has never pulled a trailer and he lives quite comfortable he's a you tuber also check him out I think you could get alot of good ideas to apply to your long road trips even with you pulling your trailer.
John, I have same bike and trailer combo, lol. I also noticed you are in the Monticello area, I am originally from Thomasville. Now I live in Tn., closer to the Smokey Mtns. We should get together and ride when I come to Tville to see my Sis.
The Goldwing is very big bike, it weighs almost a thousand pounds, as far as the trailer, it pulls great, I forget it`s back there, and it`s a lot easier to park.
Sorry it took so long, I fell off the grid for a while. I was worried about that very thing, how ever, my concerns were put to rest when I pulled it all the way from N. Florida to Kansas, 1200 miles with no problem at all.
The Goldwing weighs 950 pounds and has shaft drive. I don`t think this one is the right one for a CBR1000F, however the USA Trailer Store has a smaller version of this trailer. Look them up on line and give them a call, they may be able to help you match the right trailer for your bike.
Sorry it took so long to respond. The Goldwing weighs almost a thousand pounds, The Goldwing is easy to put a hitch on, as far a a CBR, I don`t think that bike is designed for a hitch, however, if you can install a hitch, I would recommend a much smaller trailer.
Sorry it took so long. I have no idea, you would have to find a hitch. The Goldwing is designed to pull, I don`t how the transmission on a CBR would handle it, it`s not designed for towing.
Hi, Wingnut, LOL. The tongue is a little too long. Here`s what I did, first do no cut anything, you do not have to cut the tongue. The tongue has two holes, just slid the tongue back putting the front hole of the tongue in the second hole on the frame underneath, then drill a second hole in the tongue and bolt it to the frame. You also need to drill two new holes in the tongue to place the cooler rack. I`ll do a short video to show you exactly how give me time to do the video and post it, I`ll do it now and post it tonight.
Hey John, I will be purchasing the same Lumina XL trailer within the next couple of months. Could you please send me the dimensions of the lid to the trailer? I have a duffel that I think will fit on there but can't find out how long the lid is. Thank you sir. Steve Bates
I thought this video was gonna be about how to pack your trailer to avoid swing! Also, are those breakaway chains I see? Suppose your trailer becomes unhitched? How do you think it's going to behave being dragged along by loose chains? It's probably going to kill you! Breakaway chains are for 4 wheeled vehicles not for bikes.
As Mike Peine they are required by law. The best way to use them is to X them so if coupler comes of the ball the X will keep the tongue from digging into the pavement, and running into you or someone else.
With the right ball and hitch, the chances are slim to none, but anything is possible. My Goldwing weighs a 1000 pounds and has a ABS braking system, and chains are short, so it wouldn`t be a problem.
I know you’re impressed with this guy, but you ought to look at the older Aluma’s….. what a difference in Build quality when this company started getting them from China instead of making them here they dropped all of the real quality and just went for something more easily made a real shame
The lumina XL I bought was made in Tenn. If you never thought about it, here`s a tip. I put a fire extinguisher in my trailer and I also put a bearing kit with grease and tools to install the bearing kit, just incase a bearing go`s bad, so you won`t have to leave your trailer on the side of the road.
Pillows, air mattress, trailer, and a Gold Wing. I like this guy!
Dale is a excellent salesman. He help me with changing my trike harness. Open road outfitters are great.
Great video with lots of information! Thanks, John!
Thanks.

Yes, some time I wished I had bought the camping trailer for motorcycles instead of the Lumina XL.

Question
How often do you need to grease the trailer bearing?
Can you share how to do it? Or where to get that info
Cross your chains John it might save your trailer one day Dave from Australia
Why ?

Does your cooler hit the bike when you turn short? Usually longer younger makes it pull better and track better behind bike.
Does anyone know What the measurement of this cargo trailer??
You said that you shortened the draw bar by 15 inches. Why...and how did you do it...unbolt it underneath and move it back??
great Video...thinking about one of these with my Vulcan 1500 Classic FI but a little concerned about weight limits...may tow some drums etc.

John wouldn't you want BREAK n RUNNING LIGHTS on the trailer instead of LED?
I've seen trailers with them.
This trailer has break , turn signal, and parking lights.
Sorry it took so long. No, the led`s work great, and thier very bright.
John, Have you heard about the Time Out trailer from Open Road Outfitters? That is one that I want to get eventually for my bike.
Sorry it took so long. Yes the open outfitters is a great trailer, I talked to the guy that sells them for the company, they come in several different configurations, but their not cheap.
who is the supplier of that trailer? website/name / etc ? thx!
Hey! I'm think about buying a traller like your. But how much weight can be carried at a time and how fast can you ride with loaded. Thanks!
The Goldwing can pull a great deal of weight. This trailer is 18 cubic feet inside, I`ve loaded it with camping gear and I didn't know it was back there riding down the road. However, the Goldwing is made to pull a load, so it depends on the bike.
It depends on the bike your pulling with, the Goldwing can handle it just fine. The trailer weighs 190 pounds, and I can load it.

I KNOW THIS IS AN OLDER POST, MY QUESTION DO YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE TRAILER JACK KNIFING WITH THE SHORT TONGUE?
How does the shocks on the trailer work. ?
It has a torsion bar suspension.
how much did you buy the trailer for? I found the same trailer on line for 1499.00 is that too much?
Sorry it took so long to respond. This trailer was $1500, that`s reasonable. This trailer came with a free swivel hitch. I bought a spare tire from them also.
Hey, sorry it took so long, I paid $1500 which included shipping and a swivel hitch.
Would a Harley road king work?
It should, then trailer weighs 190 pounds.
Hi John, I enjoy your videos. I am wondering how pulling the trailer affected you MPG. Thanks for the info as I am looking for a trailer.
Gerald

How does it pull since you shorten the tongue? I would be concerned about swaying especially in cross winds.

was hoping to get points on pulling a trailer,
Sorry it took so long. Pulling the trailer first depends on the bike your towing with., the bigger the bike the different size trailers you can pull.
Nice trl ....ill consider it ...bushtech.....is a bit expensive
you ever consider dark siding for trailer use?
No, but it`s an interesting idea.
Actually I was considering painting the sides to match the color of my Goldwing.

Just look under (Wing Rider Moto Vlogs) and you can see the videos on my Lumina XL, including the one on shortening the tongue.

how much does that trailer weigh?
190 pounds. Sorry I did`nt get back to you sooner.
It weighs 190 pounds. Sorry it took so long to respond.
190 pounds, sorry it took so long, I fell off the grid for a while.
You need a wireless mic set
Probably, but he definitely needs something along the Claritin or Sudafed line.
Trust me I do too.
How’s the gas mileage?
Normally it`s around 35 MPG, with the trailer, a little less.
Sorry it took so long. The gas mileage is good, about the same depending on how much I load the trailer.

How about pulling that Coachmen
Ha, yea, the My Ford F150 has all it wants pulling the Coachmen, how ever, the Goldwing can pull a pretty good load.

I road from Cherokee N.C to Virginia, the Parkway is 469 miles long.
Yes, I started at the south end in Cherokee N.C. and rode the 469 miles into Virginia. The BRP ends at the entrance to Skyline Drive.
cool
