I actually find that shaving every day is better for irritation.
One tip I've learned is that you can get more shaves from the razor by turning the blade over. I usually do four shaves on one side and three on the other so I change my blade every Sunday.
    Looking forward to day 2

4:20 Totally reminds me of "The Sims" when speed up.
Thanks for the info! Good to see that blades actually last longer than two times.
I'm starting with a "Parker" shavette combined with "Feather" blades soon and I like that one blade actually equals two blades. Used to shave with cheap, disposable savety razors, where the plastic handle is attached to the savety blade. Always hated the huge amount of plastic waste such razors cause, that hair sticks in between the multiple blades and the inferior shave, which was sorta acceptable, but I think using a bigger blade will actually feel overall better if mastered.
    Cheers!

The best way to get the maximum use out of a razor blade is not to switch sides of a razor during one shave this will use your blade up faster. The best and most efficient as well as economical way is to use a fresh blade for the first 15 days of the month than after that use the other side of the razor for the rest of the month. Not only will you get a BBS every single time but you can make a pack of blades (depending if it is a 5 or 10 pack of blades) last for months and the cost is even better….sure they are cheap compared to a cartridge razor but if you use your razor blade for 2 to 5 shaves every time and buy new packs the cost in the long run will be expensive.
I have been shaving this way for 10 years and I can vouch for it’s validity, this is the best use of a razor blade any other way is a waste of blade and money.

Well, I tried your method and it worked! I made one blade last a whole month. Problem I ran into is, that by the fifth and last shave on each side, the blade wasn't cutting nearly as well and not only took more effort to shave with, but was more prone to giving me nicks and razor burn.
On average, I shave about three times a week, so I'm going to limit it to three shaves on each side and change the blade after six shaves total, that way, the blade still lasts twice as long, but will be at optimum sharpness.

    Hi Nick,
Geat video as always. That Merkur 37C slant has been my "go to" razor for months now and I recently tried Personna blades in that razor and they didn't last. They might last longer for you, but I only got 2 multipass shaves out of those blades. I also tried Feather blades in that razor and I got quite a shock at how mild they are in the 37C slant. In fact they were almost forgiving. They only lasted for 2 multipass shaves in the 37c slant in my case.

You're an Orthopedic Surgeon, correct? What do Radiology duties entail for surgical resident? Do you review/examine scans or imaging for the Attending? Just curious, because I just started on the education path towards Rad Tech, so I'm trying to learn more about the hospital work environment.... while fighting for my life to get/keep an A in Human Anatomy.

I use a bic disposable, a brush and normal soap, shave every day. Last for a few weeks. It takes approximately 60 to 65 strokes each shave. The most shave I got was 105, mind you it was ripping them out At the end. Also strop it every couple of days on my arm.

I was able to get a total of 34 (thirty four) descent quality shaves out of my single green Astra Russian-made blade, before it finally started to dull down and tugging on my hair instead pf cutting them. Not bad, considering I have a coarse and thick stubble.

Maybe you can get some Lab Blue blades from the hospital? lol
I used a LORD Platinum Series blade yesterday. I usually get good shaves from them.
So far my four favorites in no certain order are LORD Platinum, Astra Green, Personna Blue (want to try Israelis) and Shark Super Chrome.
Feathers a bit too sharp, and i get decent shaves with Dorco St300 or St301, same blade, and theyre super cheap.
Worst are Derby, Merkur, and Wilkinson Sword. They rip my face up. Rough edges i guess. They need to strop them suckers.

Nice one. Am keen to see how you hold up for 5 shaves in a row.
I too have quite sensitive skin, and so I shave every second day. But I also have a corse beard, and so tend to look very scruffy in the second day, which I don't like for work... Thinking of shaving every day too, but only one or two passes. I find my 1930s gillette long comb is very close, and gives a good one pass shave.
The test will be whether I can leave the bathroom knowing that there is still a little stubble to be remove... Although my face may not be irritated, my soul will be instead ;)

But overall, the lifetime of a blade greatly depends on the quality of it's metal and on how coarse and thick your beard is, and even the quality of your shaving lotion, so there is no right or wrong answer.

Have you ever tried Rapira Swedish Supersteel blades? Those are my absolute favorites. I can sometimes get 10 shaves out of one. I also do Douglas Smythe's feather blade trick with them because the first shave can sometimes be rough.

Stick to multicartridge blades because they last 8-10 shaves and give a far closer, smoother and quicker shave.
