This week I have vlogged all of my meals so you can see what I eat as a crew member working onboard a cruise ship. I am on Virgin Voyages, The Valiant Lady and I know some of you hoping to start working on cruise ships wanted to know what types of foods are available to crew members.

I don’t eat enough salad at home - I would love to have a full salad bar available every day with all the varieties and being pre-chopped for me.

I've been wanting to plan a cruise. I think I will do Virgin. They appear to feed their crew well which likely translates to a better overall employment experience. This really does matter to people like me. I stopped shopping a Walmart years ago for this very reason...
I agree with you, it's important to me that staff are treated well by employees and customers.
The shop where you work is beautiful, you can see the sea every day!! you are pretty lucky!
staff generally look happier and less depressed on the virgin voyages as opposed to other videos I've seen from RCL, MSC, and other cruise line crew.

When you first went through the line with all the cheeses and meats all I could think of was give me length of italian bread and I will make a sub sandwich. At the beginning, with all the makeup you really looked like Sofía Vergara.

I’ve always wanted to work on a cruise ship but I’m vegan now. I’ve always heard it would be very hard to find meals that aren’t salad but it almost looks possible on Virgin.
Other cruise lines should take notes. I've seen tripe, roasted beef bones as "food options" and scrambled eggs with peas as the only vegetarian option by a well known cruise line. Many times crew members bought Ramen in the crew shop or tried to make soup in the microwave with the limited veggies offered.

I'd suggest looking at a Hanke collapsible suitcase/duffel bag, it collapses down to tiny (compared to full size), so you'll have more storage space to play with.

I am on the AIP-diet, meaning I can only eat vegetables and meat (no sugar, no gluten, no dairy). Do you think I could still go and work on board and keep up this diet?

Lucy, you look better than ever with your balanced diet. The food from your canteen look good enough but how lucky you are to have a choice to dine at the Galley and restaurant for sailors! I had the same salad from the former on my 1sr night on Valiant Lady. Just a warning when you go to a shore in any ports in the Far East, maybe on your next contract. Vegetarianism is virtually an unknown concept unless you’re a training monk or nun at a Buddhist temple. Beware of a meat or fish stock for any soup and pieces of meat in stir-fried veg. Unlike Virgin’s, some servers are ignorant of main ingredients on question of what’s in any 1 dish. I have problems at times to find anything edible every time I go to my old home. So I eat more tofu in my native Japan. Enjoy this summer. June

i don't understand why all the people i know that have worked on cruise say that the food is bad that looks so good. and thanks for all your videos the are helping me prepare mentally for when i start my first contract.
I feel that that's because not all cruise ships, have such amazing crew food accomodations!! that seems to be specific to Virgin Voyages, as Lucy explained in older videos that she would usually eat veg curries and rice for a lack of fresh vegetables offered to crew...

You have the choice of a Queen, Lucy when it comes to eating. I'm not a fan of that sunglasses shop, it looks like it would be incredibly boring compared to when you were a Spa Therapist. What is the next job you would like to try on board? I think you would be good at some sort of Host role or Concierge maybe?

While it would be great to have the mess to go to when you want, I like to cook as a hobby, but not every night (served my time in restaurants, never again!). I'm wondering if there is any kind of crew kitchen where you can do your own thing, like a favorite recipe from home/mom when you feel like it?

is there times you can eat or is there always food available for like nightshift workers etc.... do all crew eat in same area like cleaners all the way up to captain etc
The video mentioned some places that are open almost all the time.

I think I personally would starve if I had to eat at the mess everyday, nothing but the salad / fruits / deserts looked good to me.
When you eat at one of the restaurants can you request food be prepared with no or little salt?
Also. Does the water have salt in it as in desalination?...since virgin does not allow bottles water.
I would love to know if you can work on a cruise ship if you're gluten free (not coeliac so cross contamination is fine, just can't eat gluten)

P.S. Have you ever thought of doing an experiment and seeing how many views or likes you get on a video by putting one thumbnail as a normal picture and one thumb nail of you in one of your bikinis ? It shouldn't matter but I bet your get significantly more when you do post a bikini picture.

What? No meats to speak of? Eating healthy has not been my experience. Lucky girl! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL EYES!
Is food free or included on the ship?
I don't know. To me the stuff didn't look to appealing. Just looked like it was sitting for while and different food on top of the other food sitting there. Looked sloppy. I understand it's food for employees and not guest but to me it just didn't seem right.
You probably have a great metabolism or exercise a lot. I would definitely gain weight with all that food!
So, this "Galley" Looks like it is in the guest area. You had mentioned that you have to pay a discounted surcharge for eating in the guest restaurants. Does that include the guest galley?
I’d rather have the fish head soup, vegetables, rice and curry that the Philippine and Indian people eat.

Do they also have snaks at night?
Some do. This one dosent but I know on Royal caribbean they have 24/7 food.
Do you need to pay for the meals you eat in the guest areas/restaurants on the ship?
No they are free. Xx

How do people not gain tons of weight, with all that good food around all the time?
I would have a problem there.
Please be specific about what happens with "the algorithm" when we like a video. I have been watching many, but have only just figured out that something happens when I "like" one.
The algorithm is how RUclips decides what videos are promoted. The more likes a video receives, the more likely it is to be recommended to others.
We noticed crew eating in the passenger restaurants on our cruise on Scarlet Lady in April. Is there any limit to how often crew members are allowed to eat in the restaurants on the ship?
Depends of the department the person work. Some departments and all the officials are allowed to eat in the main restaurante.
