The first Mass Effect novel (Revelation) written by the lead writer of the first Mass Effect game (storywise the best of the bunch) is awesome. It focusses on Captain Anderson (the original N7) and Saren (bad guy from ME1). It reads like a spy thriller and if the perfect entry point into the lore. As Anderson recalls the first contact war.
I don't care what they going to do, bioware is not Bioware. Wasn't same company for decade and now it's something else entirely. Mass Effect ended on 3rd game, if anything i'm looking towards Exodus from Archetype Entertainment who have ME1-2 and KOTOR lead writer Drew Karpyshyn.
The most promising name on this list is probably Michael Gamble, but we can't ignore the fact that he was just as much involved in Andromeda and Anthem as he was in Mass Effect 3. Hell, he was a lead producer in Anthem, so I'm not going to hold my breath on this series. Did we forget how much of a meme Bioware Magic was several years back? If it turns out to be good, more power to them, but I won't exactly be surprised if it doesn't.
Absurdly bad extrapolations based on starting figures that are pure guesswork. I'm not planning to buy Veilguard (or certainly not at full price) but Veilguard launched trading sales figures at No1/No2 with COD and has been sitting solidly in the top 10 across each platform ever since. Not a bad launch for an RPG. And just for comparison Starfield had sales totals of $657M the first 6 months despite the mixed reception, no PS5 version and Game Pass cutting into sales. Even if Veilguard cost for example $200M to make (which is the extreme upper estimate) there is a solid chance the game has made a profit already.
@@AlexConnor_ which would be fair comparisom if starfield didn't have almost 4 times more peak concurrent players at release on steam alone. We won't know how it's doing but the fact that week after release it didn't hit 90k peak seems miserable. Which I hate because I would take veilguard at full price any day over starfield for free.
@GRIMHOOD99 Jedi Survivor only hit 68k peak on Steam and sold 1.6m Steam copies in 1 year. Can't see Veilguard doing much worse than that since it peaked higher and likely has 900k Steam sales already.
Michael Tucker, the RUclipsr behind Lessons From the Screenplay, was hired like 3 years ago to write a spec script for the Mass Effect TV show based off a pitch he made in his last video. He's still working with BioWare on Mass Effect according to his Twitter bio, but it's unclear in what capacity. But if his original pitch is still the basis of the show, it's going to be three seasons that correspond to the games in the trilogy.
New BioWare sucks while Old BioWare delivered the banger that is Mass Effect. Andromeda was crap, but I only play it for the romances nowadays. I hope the show handles Mass Effect better than New BioWare.
I think making a Mass Effect show/movie is going to fail. Simply because lovers of the series tend yo have thier own interpretation of Shepard. And if they have a Shepard it will likely not be "my Shep" and that Shep won't talk or act the way we imagine them and it will lead to blowback.
"BioWare Is Doing WHAT?!" Ruining another franchise, I have no doubt. I've read news that Veilguard only sold around 500k units. If that is true, I hope EA sends Bioware to the pits of hell, where they belong.
"This is like Bethesda going from Starfield to Elder Scrolls." But... it's not. Starfield was a brand new IP. Dragon Age: Inquisition is Bioware's best selling game. Saying more people care about ME than DA is an assumption at best, but one not backed up by any sales I can find. To suggest that WAY more people care about ME is just wrong.
The only teams I would feel happy about working on Mass Effect would be the folks that respectively did Lost in Space, The Expanse, Firefly, or Pandorum.
The first reveal trailer of dragon age was an accurate depiction of the game, I'm not looking forward to their next dragon age and mass effect game My ass thinking it can't be that bad bought it after listening to Matty's and skillup's review and 57 hrs later with a plat trophy my disappointment is immeasurable.....sorry I doubted you Mr Matty
Loving the Death Note shirt sir!! They haven't said if this is a live action series...could be animated? And I agree with you 100% on the story being set during the First Contact and the subsequent war. Now that is something I want to see!!
Here's the problem. The original ME trilogy story, overall is so strong. Had characters so memorable. The chance the TV show could even come close to the quality of the ME experience is so slim.
Unlike a lot of people, I thoroughly enjoyed The Veilguard and I get the reasoning behind no DLC but personally I could see making DLC that would go back to each zone and allow us to cleanse the Blight and any remaining Darkspawn, while also seeing how your team has moved on, but that's just my personal opinion.
Why the hell did they give writing to Daniel Casey? What has he done that's any good? Why is he heading writing for a major sci-fi videogame adaptation?
Mass effect has been my favorite game series since I was in 3rd grade. I will never lose faith in them glad to see them adding a tv series and another game to the universe I hope the wait isn’t too long
After Andromeda, Anthem and now Veilguard, the chances of the next Mass Effect game being even mediocre are pretty low. They might as well just open up the Air Lock and launch everyone into the emptiness of space. As for the series, I am getting Halo vibes from it and expect another dumpster fire.
A connecting tissue with Andromeda? And its poor not so creative aliens design? + DA Veilguard helping + a board game with lot of unnecessary pronouns + 3 games that failed back to back!
The First Contact war would be a good choice. Also has the advantage of Shepherd not being around yet so it won’t break the personal lore players may have
People may think I’m crazy but I’m actually really enjoying Veilguard so far. I didn’t expect to after Matty’s review and what people have been saying but it’s surprised me. Yes I had already preordered it, I used a bunch of Microsoft points so basically got it for free. I’m only past part 5 so I may completely change my opinion. Still it’s definitely not perfect and I completely get the criticism with it. Just for me it doesn’t bother me so much so far. Yes the dialogue is bad at times, yes the characters are cartoonish. But I love the environments and exploration. We’ll see how it goes, please don’t hate me for this minority opinion.
@@MrMattyPlays Thank you Matty, that’s very kind of you to say. Maybe I’ll feel how you and others do the further I get in. Or maybe I’ll still enjoy it. Only time will tell. Still it most certainly doesn’t hold a candle to Origins.

You know what I want from this, Henry Cavil not as Shepard but as Garrus or Saren
so the voice, right?
@chris9206 He could be the guy in the suit of they wanna go practical
Nah. Just bring back Brandon Keener.
@@spensirmclife6549 you can't do Garry's practical especially with how Turians are built. Krogans can be somewhat practical.
Look at the flowers Bioware, look at the flowers
I don't care what they going to do, bioware is not Bioware. Wasn't same company for decade and now it's something else entirely. Mass Effect ended on 3rd game, if anything i'm looking towards Exodus from Archetype Entertainment who have ME1-2 and KOTOR lead writer Drew Karpyshyn.
Didn't know he's working on Exodus. This brings hope. Also Drew Karpyshyn worked on OG Baldurs Gate and Dragon Age Origins.
shepard: I do this for... FAMILY
"Commander everyone on this supposed team should be thrown out the Airlock except Mike Gamble" - Javik
I like Matty because he starts his vids with "Salutations" and ends with "Stay sexy". Like, what else do you need from a content creator?
The most promising name on this list is probably Michael Gamble, but we can't ignore the fact that he was just as much involved in Andromeda and Anthem as he was in Mass Effect 3. Hell, he was a lead producer in Anthem, so I'm not going to hold my breath on this series. Did we forget how much of a meme Bioware Magic was several years back?
If it turns out to be good, more power to them, but I won't exactly be surprised if it doesn't.
Do you genuinely think Veilguard is doing "just fine"? Have you been paying attention to the sales estimates?
Talking about Iron Man and The Punisher as if they were lackluster movies is a CRAZY take
New BioWare sucks while Old BioWare delivered the banger that is Mass Effect. Andromeda was crap, but I only play it for the romances nowadays.
I hope the show handles Mass Effect better than New BioWare.
Im scared matty.. they will make garrus a lesbian.
(Garrus:) "Yo, aight Sheppard, all-Y'all know I gonna calibrate the cannon."
@ lol
Then: Drew Karpyshyn
Now: Random Fast & Furious writer
I think making a Mass Effect show/movie is going to fail. Simply because lovers of the series tend yo have thier own interpretation of Shepard. And if they have a Shepard it will likely not be "my Shep" and that Shep won't talk or act the way we imagine them and it will lead to blowback.
I just need one picture of the staff working working on any of these projects to know if I want to watch /playing anything that will lecture me
Omg first contact featuring captain Anderson! Yes!!!
8:30 oh my god if they covered the first contact war in the ME show with grit and respect, I’m all in!!!
Imo the perfect story would be the 2 years that shepherd is dead, and it would be a crew hired by cerberus to find the remains of shepherd and such
No DLC for Veilguard was a good call. The masterpiece doesn't need lifting with 'extra'. On to Mass Effect 5.
Literally give zero f’s about anything BioWare does anymore. Sucks because mass effect and da where some of my favorite games
"From the people that brought you Veilguard and Anthem, comes a new modern take on a classic series..."
"BioWare Is Doing WHAT?!" Ruining another franchise, I have no doubt. I've read news that Veilguard only sold around 500k units. If that is true, I hope EA sends Bioware to the pits of hell, where they belong.
"This is like Bethesda going from Starfield to Elder Scrolls."
But... it's not. Starfield was a brand new IP. Dragon Age: Inquisition is Bioware's best selling game. Saying more people care about ME than DA is an assumption at best, but one not backed up by any sales I can find. To suggest that WAY more people care about ME is just wrong.
The video game industry is literally burning itself at the stake and still preaching at us as they perish. This is the best time line ever.
Iron Man 1 slander will not be tolerated, Matty.
If the Mako doesn't drive like a Donkey wirh Parkinsons Ill loose all interest.
The only teams I would feel happy about working on Mass Effect would be the folks that respectively did Lost in Space, The Expanse, Firefly, or Pandorum.
I hope the show is about the first contact war. That would be awesome.
Jericho is a post-apocalyptic story that has an actual beginning, middle, and end. And what a lovely ending it is. Give it a try.
The first reveal trailer of dragon age was an accurate depiction of the game, I'm not looking forward to their next dragon age and mass effect game
My ass thinking it can't be that bad bought it after listening to Matty's and skillup's review and 57 hrs later with a plat trophy my disappointment is immeasurable.....sorry I doubted you Mr Matty
The guy that did The Last of Us and Chernobyl made some absolute garbage before those, so it doesn't necessarily mean it'll be bad.
Matty really been salivating over bioware after the controversy!
Loving the Death Note shirt sir!! They haven't said if this is a live action series...could be animated? And I agree with you 100% on the story being set during the First Contact and the subsequent war. Now that is something I want to see!!
Yo, give Ironman credit. Just because it didn't rate high doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a lot of flowers.
Mike gamble brought us andromeda why is no one yelling
Here's the problem. The original ME trilogy story, overall is so strong. Had characters so memorable. The chance the TV show could even come close to the quality of the ME experience is so slim.
Yay, another identity politics simulator. Grab a pen and notebook, time to get educated on how to think again by Bioware
Love how Matty can still be optimistic
People, if you all collectively do not raise your voices now, kiss Mass Effect goodbye for sure.
Big shoutout to Matt for always keeping it real. Not many people on this platform let there true feelings on a project show
Man, this next mass effect game is gonna be so ass. The trilogy is my favorite game of all time, so I’m so disappointed.
No no the real next mass effect game is Exodus
Veilguard was the last straw for me. Won't be touching another Bioware product until it's proven that their staff know what they're doing again
A connecting tissue with Andromeda? And its poor not so creative aliens design? + DA Veilguard helping + a board game with lot of unnecessary pronouns + 3 games that failed back to back!
Im gonna be honest, i really dont want bioware to touch Mass Effect, id rather them sell the rights to someone who actually cares about Mass Effect.
🙏 Amen!
I don’t even want to think about the writing this show will have
Veilguard is good. Gamble knows what he's doing. Mass Effect is in good hands.
Mass Effect with the Fallout show treatment could be peak 🙏🙏🙏
stop dreaming it gonna fail its ME, to make it legit, they need tons of cash ...
Fallout was definitely not peak.
That Fallout show was trash.
You shouldn't be hated for speaking your truth. Glad you're enjoying it!
@@Lilac-and-GooseberriesEnjoy the hell out of it, BioWare is done, there won’t be anymore. Glad you’re enjoying it, unfortunately most don’t.
@@MrMattyPlays Thank you Matty, that’s very kind of you to say. Maybe I’ll feel how you and others do the further I get in. Or maybe I’ll still enjoy it. Only time will tell. Still it most certainly doesn’t hold a candle to Origins.
@@mikelitten7489 Thanks, thats completely fair to say about BioWare and I think you’re probably right.
@ I wish I wasn’t
People who said it is curious how Bioware isn't releasing DLC.....They forget that Mass Effect Andromeda also didn't receive DLC, as it was canceled, leaving the game incomplete. Guess they smarten up this time and not planning any DLC till they actually knew how much their game would sell.
Why aren't you reviewing Stalker 2 Matty ?
The original trilogy was like capturing lighting in a bottle. I'm not sure it will ever be the same again, unless the original writers come back.
Veilguard is alright guys. The combat is fun, the surroundings are really beautiful and it's a must play for the fans of the lore. Really hoping we get a DA5
Man it feels bad man to have the series that you grew up loving being compared to starfield as a second rate game that isn't worth the time.
They should make the show about someone from Cerberus or one of the gangs while all the events of the game going on
Or have it about the first contact war
Love ya Matty, keep up the great work!
Let’s not forget that Game of Thrones was being produced - at the time - by the Wolverine writer. And they still gave us 4 seasons of arguably the best television in the past 15 years.
Because they actually followed the books and copied from someone who can write.
@@fabhatman5025Yeah. Just look at how the last season made people turn on the show.
Well they already killed Dragon age so I guess it's time to finish off Mass effect.
Put a bow on it? More like take it out back.
REMINDER: it’s MGM not just Amazon Prime. MGM is known for high quality shows such as “From”. Good to know before you immediately write it off
Wow a tv show can't wait for them to randomly make liara make political comments about not having a sex and Miranda black
