That’s slick. Great idea! I assume that you can use the Neoprene wheel with a belt also? How would that sponge bath work in a commercial setting where you might do 100+ knives in a sitting? What is top speed?
We actually have a Top speed now closer to 500 RPM , (I forgot to mention that in the movie). I found the additional speed helpful for honing, the sponges do wear but the machine throws no water up to 500 RPM , they are easy and inexpensive to maintain, you can flip them over , change them or throw a washer (shim) under the sponge underneath the wheel as it wears , A word of caution, belts are sharp when new, and will pull the sponge out of the tray when new if it's too tight when replaced. Hold the tray spin the wheel by hand before you start -- always a good idea. Having said that, it is a wet belt, (not many out there) that doesn't throw water. We have quite a few hours of wear on our setups, the sponges are easy to manage considering the benefit. Another tip Use a different sponge for your course grinding work, swap the tray, or flip the sponge over when you change to a fine wheel so as not to contaminate your finishing wheels, Jeff
