You had the first full review of these bindings, and while other reviewers are just going to release their first review, you're already on the follow-up video :D Killing it on the review front, this year, haha! Thanks for the follow-up!
Dude I was like who TF is that guy…then you started talking and I was like whooooooooowwwww it’s Malcolm 😂 feels like I just „know“ you with glasses beanie and buff…nice video as always ✌🏻
Im so stoked i remembered to check if YOU did a review on these. Ive been skeptical since last season. Now im sold! Nice to see someone who does thorough reviews and videos. Im not a fan of the "cool guy" youtubers. Dood you are as real as it gets. Stoked on this! Gonna go buy right now. Thanks Malcolm
I have a basic set of no frills bindings (no canted base or high back adjustment) and was planning my upgrade now that I have more experience with my board. You had me sold after your first video and now you made me confident with my decision to go with the supermatics. I was originally planning on getting the Burton Step Ons for this season but you just saved me some $$$. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Nidecker take my money!!!
With any binding it is about the adjustability and making sure it is centred and set how you like it. Even though this has a big trick to it, you still fully reviewed it on top of a detailed consideration of the step in function, and appreciated who may use each function. Precious little info out there and this review hits the nail on the head for anyone considering this binding.
I just got mine yesterday! can't wait to season start here in South America (Argentina). I am 46 and I am really tired of bending over, just a resort guy, not backcountry, not park, just cruise!!!
Thanks for the no bs, honest follow up review. Aging into the demographics you noted. Beats being toes up:). Last season the bindings were falling apart on the board used at the local "mtn". A vertically challenged area. Replaced by a set of Flow NX2-TM (Nidecker owns flow for those unaware) for the convenience factor. Use to be one of those dolts that over cranked the straps. Took a few runs to adjust to the "soft" feel of the strap system. But I prefer the feel and ride quality. As I said I was a dolt. These Supermatics would make life even more convenient.
Great review on both videos. Aas someone that's been riding since the late 80s and 53 years of age I can say I've been contemplating step-ins for a while. I snow host -guide new visitors at the resort and find that Im in and out of the bindings sometimes more than I want to so looking at these for ease. Also the fact that they take any boot really makes them versatile as we may not all want a Burton boot or have more than one board. Once I get mine I'll give my review but looking at your review Im hoping I can just say yeah they are great :) !
Really looking forward to your return this season Malcolm. It will be my first season Snowboarding instead of Skiing and your videos have done nothing but hype me up!
Rode these indoors for the first time.Worked well but had a lot of pain underfoot! Realised i am used to cranking down my Union Force really hard, but these are way more responsive. Put them much looser than i normally would and they rode much better with no pain! Can't wait to try these in the mountains.
Great review Malcolm! I did like your initial comprehensive review a few months ago and pre-ordered a set right away. As it so happens, I am one of those older, fatter and out of shape boarders, who can no longer manage with conventional bindings. Most people don't realize how difficult it is for folks like me to reach (repeatedly) all the way to the straps and strap in. It is actually very exhausting and saps our energy very quickly. Many times, I would stop boarding after just one or two runs. It's not lack of stamina, as I ski too - for 6 to 8 hours per day. I have great hopes that these Nideckers willl resolve a major issue with my use-case for snowboarding. Can't wait to start the new season with these bindings.
Apparently your videos werent enough. The new color got me over the finish line in buying them 😋 Got a few runs in the snowhall in but I’m stoked to get them on a real slope in december. My skier friends like me better already 😂. Thanks for your reviews (and other videos)! Now working on your switch techniques! Have a great season!
The other category of folk is people who ride regularly with skiers and/or kids. Yes probably still the older bunch but it just allows a better wavelength connection to the group. I just started this year on Burtons and it makes a subtle but sizable difference once you're in and out super quick.
Thanks for the update Malcolm, your views are always valued..I pr-ordered mine with outdoorXL back in April after your first review £435 uk inc of delivery.. expected delivery early September, Glad you still think they are good. Im 56 been boarding a few years now, no problems with strapping in, just want the convenience. our dome allows us to ride the poma lifts strapped in, but these should be great on holiday. Thanks again.. Paul
Hey Malcom! This season is going to be my first one on the snow and I was pondering whether to go for skis or board, but then I found your channel and my mind is now made up. I'm excited to drop down the mountain for the first time, and watching all your tutorials already makes me feel like an intermediate rider (I'm practicing the movements in my living room lol). This might sound dumb, but as the season is approaching, I was wondering if you could do like a packing run-through before heading out to the mountain. And I don't mean just the gear (board, helmet, goggles, etc), I mean the ultra beginner stuff like what are the things you will need up there but don't know you need it kind of thing (things you wear underneath the snow gear like socks underwear etc, extra pairs of something, or anything else you can think of). It can be a short little video while you're packing your suitcase to kick the season off and it will really help first-timers like me. Anyway, thanks again for all your hard work! Love your channel.
Thanks for the idea, maybe I'll do it 🤔 Honestly for me though where I live it doesn't drop that cold, so underneath my clothes I just layer with regular clothing. When I used to work in Canada I had to be a bit more technical with proper baselayers and down jackets underneath. That was because it was really cold there. Beside that, good ski socks are helpful, not thick furry ones either, you don't want your feet to have that much room in your boots. Besides that, suncream, lip balm, and all the other stuff you mentioned!
@@malcolmmoore Thanks for the response! That was all the info I needed. I'm super stoked to get out there! My only worry about going with the snowboard was all my friends are on skis and I don't want to hold them back (I doubt rental has these Nidecker step-ons yet). But I can't just not do it, the snowboard looks like so much more fun and gives you more freedom to do stuff rather than just go from point A to point B quickly. And I got you to thank for, you have a really good channel for getting people into snowboarding. Which is why I would like to see you in-person coach more beginners (even though you did a few already) because a lot of people are put off picking up the snowboard because they think it's too difficult compared to skis, so when they see beginners picking it up easily it will give them a boost (speaking from personal experience here). Thanks again! Keep up the great work.
As someone who has tried skiing and is beginning to snowboard i can already say snowboarding is much more fun! Good choice hehe hope you have fun on the slopes
Thanks for the solid review and follow up! I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit when you mentioned they’ll be giving a tether strap with these after coming from your other video where you have a friendly jab about how “other step in bindings giving those straps for a reason!” Haha
Usual fine clear cool and minty communicating from MM. might demo at xscape next week. I don’t mind the bending but can see the joy. And I’m 72 in March 25:)
nice one... didn't expect a product review from you mate... been watching lots of your technique vids, which are brilliant... And funnily enough im looking for new bindings, i have flows, so more than happy with them, thought about burton stepins but i love my boots too much, so its between getting new flows or these. you have one of the most positive reviews of them, there are a lot of negative ones... you might have made my mind up.,. and yes i'm a bit older, thanks for that !! lol...
@@jimmybushkill5295 Maybe, but I haven't tried those. I have tried bindings from the most brands and when I switched to Ride C-8 that made a huge difference for me.
Eyeing up these for teaching, because you’re in and out all the time in beginner group sessions. I considered the Burton step-in but these at least mirror what students have on their feet with regards to demonstrating straps.
Yeah, when teaching beginner lessons I just strap in and out the first time to show them how it's done, and then I just step in and out as I go on from there. If you're teaching a group of beginners they can be amazing in helping you dart around the slope!
Bought these as an upgrade to my old GNU "Speed Entry" (Rear Entry) bindings. Was hesitant to upgrade to Clew/Burton Step On/K2 Clickers because those all seem difficult or even impossible to get onto when finding yourself on a slope with no flats in sight and they also seem more prone to getting blocked by snow compared to rear entry where a lot of the snow can get pushed out of the way from the entry motion. The Flows iterated on the GNUs eliminating two steps and these iterated on the Flows eliminating one more step. For me quick in/out is necessary since most of my friends are impatient skiiers lol. Can't wait to try them out next week.
@@KrisOO17 There are two downsides I found so far. 1. They are slightly heavier although I do need the extra large ones. 2. The GNU's seemingly unnecessary extra step of the ankle tightness latch turned out to be a pro in some scenarios such as when riding long lifts because you can very easily loosen it for the ride up for comfort. Can't do that on the Supermatics but you really can't do that on any other style of binding other than the GNU style anyway without actually loosening the strap (or boot on some styles of step ins). Pros: 1. They are way more responsive than the GNUs and feel very secure. 2. Had no issues with snow preventing getting latched in (but no deep powder here). 3. I can get in and out of them quicker than skiiers can get in/out of their bindings. Ohh how the tables have turned. 4. It is so fast I find myself walking around instead of skating in many scenarios and in long lift lines I can just hop out real quick to relax then hop back in right before it's my turn.
I did a beginner lesson with someone on the Burton step ons. She kept having to use my binding strap to scrape off the snow packed on the bottom of her boots to get them to clock in. Thought that was ironic. Glad the supermatics don’t seem to have that issue.
Great follow up to the initial in depth ride and review! Pre ordered mine from Outdoor XL in the Netherlands right after your initial review. Been on the Burton Step Ons the last 2 seasons. Love them, super responsive with the sole of your boot locked to the binding. Will be interesting to compare the responsiveness when i get these this season. Was just notified by Outdoor that binding delivery will be delayed from September till November.😠🤣 Can't wait! Pray for Snow!!!
Hi Malcolm. Thanks for this review. Did you notice however any wearing out of your boots on the heel from slipping in and out of the bindings? I know there is a little wheel, but I tested these bindings with my boots in the store and I did notice that the heel was kind of suffering a bit (the rubber that is) after a while. These were my Burton Boa's size US 10 (UK 9, EUR 43) in the size L bindings. Of course, it's not 'lubricated' by snow and tested in dry conditions, but I want to make sure my boots won't suffer. You have quite some experience with these. Did your boots show any sign of wearing off? Did the rubber suffer somehow? And... would it be smart to maybe pick a size XL for the bindings when ordering in your opinion? I ruined my previous boots with Roxy step-in bindings (tore off the rubber by putting them up and down) so I am extremely careful of what I buy when it comes to bindings. Many thanks for your reply!
Thanks for addressing these questions! One thing that I don't remember being touched upon in either video is if you can rotationally adjust the high backs. I assume not but again, for the demographics, not a big issue
Thx for the informative review. I love to track around the mountain with my skiing partner and these bindings looks so effortless to put on. I can't wait to try them out. I did just manage to pre-order a set but seems like most places are out of stock already.
Thanks for the review Malcolm! I think yet another target audience for these are people who may even be in good shape but are often riding with skiers and have to endure their bickering about the amount of time we take at the chairlifts 😉. Not sure if this has been asked already, but what about the riders that like to use a more aggressive forward lean angle on the highbacks for carving. Can this be done with Supermatics and will it somehow compromise the ease of step in or step out functions?
Well, I'm a year late but I have the '24s and I like a bunch of forward lean. The Supermatics have limited adjustment and the max forward lean is like in the middle of the adjustment range on my Union Force Classics. It is enough for me, but only just. I would say the Supermatics are actually easier to get into than normal bindings with the same amount of forward lean. The highback starts from way back when you step in and then you can put your weight into it to get everything into place. In normal bindings you have to wiggle your boot and crank the ankle strap to get your heel into position, especially with pretty stiff boots. I got these for riding the tiny hills around where I live where the tow lifts and strapping in take a good percentage of time at the hill (usually minimal lift lines).
I’m exactly what you explained tu be the target market. I’m 51 and I’m not in the best shape. I just found a pair of Supermatics that I ordered online. Rode them for the first time on Sunday. So far, I really like them. I wear a men’s US size 9 boot. They fit into the medium binding, but barely. I realize this may vary by the boot model. I just wanted to say for people looking at the sizing chart, there’s a little bit of flexibility around those recommendations.
Replying to this super late as well. I have US Size 11 Burton Photons and have the XLs. I'm 99% sure I could've fit them in the Ls and it probably would've been better. No big issues of extra movement, but I did have to use the discs oriented so that I used the better adjustability to push the bindings as far towards the toe edge as possible.
Fast approaching 50. These will do for stomping around the Portes du Soleil on my weekends. Cheers for being honest about the "great for old folks" line. ;-) haha
I just got my supermatics, I find it hard to lock it to the last tooth of the gear on the back. it often stops at the second tooth. I bought it at the end of the season with some discount and now I cannot test it on snow, I can make it lock at the last set of tooth if I really try hard on a yoga mat, I worry that I won't be able to do that on softer snow.
Hi Malcolm, thx for pointing me to these two excellent reviews! One more question: Are they easy to step into in deep powder or does it just make more sense to put them on like normal bindings in such scenario? Thx
If it was really deep, probably makes more sense to use them like a normal binding, to be honest if you're just riding powder in a resort unless you're getting stuck, hopefully you won't need to take them on and off in the deep snow!
Thanks. Great review, I got the Nidecker Team bindings last year so will be looking at getting these as my next set after I've done a few seasons with my current ones. Hopefully they'll come down in price by then!
Love your videos! I noticed on one of your more recent releases that you were (still) using the Supermatics. Are they your daily go to Binding? or do you just use them for recording? (allowing super quick in/out)
I actually use them most of the time, recently I've been using an old board because there's alot of rocks around so rather than swapping my supermatics I've put some old bindings on that board too, but most the time I'm on the supermatics yeah. They've actually just sent me the new carbon ones which I'm quite surprised at how much I like them, I thought they would be too stiff..I'll have a comparison video of them out in about a weekm
I am not a tight binding guy…like I never tighten them to the last click, and I can confirm these are still a pain in the ass at least half the time. To step in easily every time, you’d need to have the straps looser than I think most riders want them. They aren’t nearly as good as advertised. With what nidecker charges for these things it should be automatic and it isn’t. For the price, you shouldn’t have to change how you like your bindings to get them to work…they should just work.
I just mounted these up and have one weekend of riding on them. I was initially disappointed in how difficult it was to slide my boot in with my bindings as tight is I generally like them. I found that loosening the ankle strap a few clicks before pulling your boot out makes re-entry much easier. After you stepped back in, you can quickly retighten the strap those few clicks. It is a little annoying that there are a couple additional steps I thought I’d be avoiding with these bindings, but overall I’m still very happy with them. Both exiting and entering the binding is still done without having to sit down and is accomplished in much less time than traditional bindings. Once you figure it out, it only adds a few seconds to the process and you can still have your straps as tight as you like them.
4:00 I could see that as a big issue - even though you say you needed to push quite hard, you still managed to push the release loose with your naked thumb. I can imagine just accidentally swiping your rear foot over the lever could cause it to fall off. If they come out with a revised version they could probably do with something like a latch under the heel that needs to be firmly pressed down by your weight against the ground for the locking mechanism to come off.
Does anyone actually dangle their board with one foot when on a chair? American's maybe of course with their obsession with not putting the safety bar down!
So, they don´t work for me. My foot size is 12,5. You said they´ll release the XL on this season. Is that confirmed? Because I´m from Brazil and I really want to buy thoses for my snow trips. Thanks a lot for your videos. They are all helping me a lot.
Thanks for the review. Are u still using usual bindings in some cases or u stick only to nideckers? I am in process of buying new set. An can't choose between usual bindings, for example Union Atlas or Burton cartels, and nideckers.
I really appreciate how comprehensive your reviews of the Supermatic have been, thanks! Do you know if there'll be any changes to the 22/23 model, or is staying the same?
Hi, thanks for this great review . I intend to buy it when they release the XL version. On another note, would you be able to do a video about binding angles and highback forward lean. I am an early intermediate and struggle for turn from heel to toe on steep red slopes . I wonder if adjusting binding angles and changing highback setback will help with the process
Hey Malcolm, well done! How would you compare these to responsiveness to other brand/models? That might be a bit helpful. Say a burton Genesis or Cartel? Clearly Union Atlas more stiff and responsive, but can you draw any comparisons?
Be careful, when you ride the chairlift I accidentally pressed the lever with my other foot and the board came off. First time I was barely getting on the chairlift and the board fell down. Next time, again, I accidentally pressed the lever but this time I noticed it and was able to put on the binding again. Overall I am very happy with these Bindings.
Great honest review these 2 vids 👌🏼 But I think you were a bit unfair to the Clew bindings. I don't really know what the Problem was with you telling Clew your reservations and they canceled their offer to send you a pair. I had a few chats with them before I even tried out my first clews and I was very critical but they always stayed being nice to me and trying to give me the opportunity to try their bindings. I don't really know what the problem should be having a highback attached to your boot...yes it may look a bit unfamiliar to people who are actually looking at your boots, but who cares !? Isn't Snowboarding all about having fun, find your own way, your own style and don't care what others think about you? Besides that, the big advantages that the Clew bindings have: For people who love stiff bindings, they are pretty stiff! They don't have this lateral movement you talked about and it's a big plus for me because I want to feel strapped in tight in all directions. With the clews you can have your ankle strap being tight as f*** which allows very quick edge transfers because that doesn't matter for stepping in or out with the highback and ankle strap being attached to your boot most of the time. To be honest they can be a bit tricky sometimes to get the quick step in and out and getting both of the 2 clicks out of the locking mechanism but for me they are the only option of a pretty stiff quick entry binding right now and you should be fair and try them before you compare them to other Bindings 😉
Only just seen this review. I currently have Flows, which I like but there are small downsides. Question - did you go back to your original bindings or have you stuck with the Supermatics? Looks like my next bindings will be a pair.
Hello malcolm :D I watched a video of yours made 2-3 years ago where you talked about the warpig if I remember right. I am wondering if the board is still great and if I should buy it. It would be my first snowboard that i'm not renting. Is it a good board, do you have any advice and as always keep the work up, thanks!
Your parting comment was that you felt these were the best of the bunch... Assuming you're grouping the Burton step ins in that...? What is that these have over the Burton set up (other than the obvious 'you can use your own boot'...?) Thx :-) great review btw...
For me these just feel like a normal boot and binding setup when you're in them. The burtons have a very different feel to them. Some people actually really like them, and they are very responsive, but you are quite aware of the contact points on the side of the boots where you are anchored in. I find the boots are also just way too stiff, again some people like that though. I do think these are also slightly easier to use, but again the burtons do work well and you would just get used to either. Basically for me, these are a normal binding with step in functionality, whereas the burtons definitely have a different feel, flex, and ride to them
Missed out on the '23 batch so just pre-ordered the '24 stock which should come in October. They are £399 by the way. I've also ordered new board and boots (end of season '23 sales) for the first time in over a decade so already counting the days to next season's snow........groan....
I know this is old but I just got a pair of these and wanted to know if they slide in a lot easier when it’s wet from the snow mine slide in okay but the way yours looks like it slides like butter? Also I haven’t worn these on the mountain yet but I’ve noticed my boots are rubbing a bit and the hammock cushion seems like it’s getting tore up some from putting my foot in
You answered my question about the sliding when wet just watched that part lol thank you. Only question now is how durable are the cushions on the footbed and hammock
I'm 22 a pretty good rider and i absolutetly WANT these. I often ride with skiers and i am tired of them having to wait for me. I wanna hop of the chair lift, simultaneously step into the binding and don't have to sit down or strap in my foot.
Hi Malcolm Another great video. Thank you so much. I could not find on the web a reseller in France or in Europ to order for a pair of these beauties . Any help ? I live in Grenoble not far from l'AdH. Perhaps see you there for Eurocarving this season. Cheers.
I wish Nidecker added some extra rubber or foam underneath bindings to a) add more shock absorption and b) protect the surface of the board thanks to that.
Thanks a lot for the detailed original review, and this awesome follow-up! Could you please provide an indication for your board measurements? Waist width and width underfoot? Will really help me with some proportions since I intend to pre-order a set of these :)
My wife and I are both in our 50s now. We have a love hate relationship with flows, to the point that I have gone back to unions after the top if the range flows ripped the heal off of two pairs of my boots. I think it’s pretty likely that one of us will be buying these at some point.
Hi Malcolm, your original review and this follow up convinced me this is the bindings I need. They arrived about 2 weeks ago and I can't wait to try them in Les Arcs in Jan. Thanks to more of your vids I want an Insta 360 x3 now too! Keep making your awesome vids.
Great review Malcolm! Do you tested Supermatic bindings with Burton Ion buts? I have Burton Ions, and I try to figure out how Nidecker Supermatic will work with them.
Great binding BUT it damages (wooden) board decks! I watched your reviews and finally bought an XL for my Jones Hovercraft with a bamboo deck. Great function, great hold, a little heavier than my old K2 Chinch. But only after a few days of use I have big dents in the wooden deck from the thin fins under the moveable heel part that cause a lot of pressure on a small area on the deck. I guess after some more days the wood will be really damaged and exposed or split. I am already in contact with Nidecker for a solution, imo a simple, thin plate under the binding would prevent these damages. Until there's a solution for this problem I wouldn't recommend the Supermatic for boards with a wooden deck, like many of the high-end Jones boards have.
I think these bindings will be revolutionary. What worries me is that there are so many moving parts that wear and tear parts are inevitable. The question is will Nidecker provide these part for replacement or will we have to buy a whole new set of bindings?
Exactly as Sam said, I actually toured the European distribution centre the other day and they are stocked up with spare parts. North America will be the same 👍
After these videos on these bindings I was sold. Went over to buy some and sold out and not a bigger size till next year anyway. Going with the WarPig board. I’m 6’3 255lb intermediate rider what bindings should I look at for this season that would be similar feeling to those?
Hi Malcolm! Have you tried slipping your boot on just before getting off the lift with these bindings? I saw a Japanese video where this guy didn’t need to skate with one boot on and one off. As soon as he stood up off the chair, both boots were secured to the supermatics simply allowing him to ride immediately. (I hope I’m making sense)
Yeah it's possible to do that, you could skate onto to where the chair picks you up, and then clip in just before it gets you. I always just do it at the top though.
Great reviews, both this and the original. So your size US 12 boots, UK 11, are half a size above the upper limit of the L binding. You said it worked fine, but were you happy enough with the sizing that if you were buying a pair cash as your daily binding for your coming season you'd be happy to buy the large, or would you wait a year for XL. What boots are you in by the way ?
@@malcolmmoore Nice one, thank you. I'm in Burton Rulers UK 11 so should be similar footprint. Interestingly just dug them out and whilst most online comparisons equate a UK 11 to EU 46, the label in the boot tongue has it down as EU 45, which does fit within the range for the Supermatic Large size.
Hey Malcom do you think you could make a video explaining the best turns for going off of jumps and if they differ depending on what trick you are trying to acheive?
@@DC1789 flexed going in for sure, most jumps are essentially a smooth piste on the run in so don't stress too much about performing a dynamic turn on the run in, just be as lazy as possible in making the edge change, just rock your weight over the board, allowing you to focus on the trick ahead. Extend off the lip of the jump to give you pop.
woo, a video from Malcolm in summer time. Spectacular 👍 Malcolm, I'm going off topic here, but I remember seeing you in one of your videos that you ride a road bike during summer time. Have you tried riding an electric unicycle? I usually ride mountain bike during summer time, but this year, I decided to go electric. I didn't want to get an e-bike as I already have a bike. I initially wanted an e-skateboard since I snowboard, but I found out that I couldn't balance on skateboard to save my life. As I was watching more and more personal electric vehicle videos on RUclips, it recommended one of electric unicycle videos. Apparently, some people go off-road with this thing. After watching a bunch of videos, I decided to get an electric unicycle. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life!!!!!! it's SO FUN!!!!!! You should try it!!!!!!!!
Never tried any unicycle of any kind, regular or electric! I do skateboard a little bit, I used to do that all the time when I was younger, but it is so easy to injure yourself doing it that I mostly stay away from it now! Cycling is my main thing in the summer, road cycling and mountain biking. I did in fact start a bit of a road tiling channel but it never got all that far!
@@malcolmmoore Electric unicycle (EUC) is definitely safer than skateboarding. On skateboard, if you lose your balance while going high speed, it means a certain crash. On EUC, if you lose your balance, you can grab the wheel with your legs and regain your balance. There is an youtuber who rides both EUC and e-skateboard said, "You must respect skateboard while EUC is an extension of your body." (rough quote). EUC looks dangerous, but it is safer than what it appears. That being said, it still has risk of serious injuries given how fast some of these wheels can go (70km/h+) especially when riding it without any safety gears. Motorcycle safety gears are highly recommended. Personally, I wear full dirt bike safety gears + wrist guards. I have crashed once on a gravel trail, and the safety gears did their job. No serious injuries. I just bit my own lips when crashing. Check it out. Seriously, I have never had this much fun during summer time.
Hi Malcolm, love your content. I was just wondering I wear a Burton Photon Boa in 8.5, I pre ordered these bindings in large. According to the size chart should fit my boots, but will there be to much play in them?
Step on boots were really just designed to work with step in bindings, not just because of the clips, but because of how they have been designed to work without straps over the top. In theory you probably could get a pair in these bindings, like how you could probably get them in a set of normal bindings, but that's not what they were designed for.
@@malcolmmoore Thank you for the reply! Yeah I’m just trying to save money and use the boots I already have. Just wanted to see if the cleats on the Burtons would mess with or damage the straps on the Supermatics.
Ahah thanks sending me there and I have another question 🙋 Some guys testing it say it s quite hard under the heel because there s no Eva foam like on other bindings and it makes quite unconfortable after long day riding... Your thoughts?
Thank you for your advice, im hard core union, but im getting older and now thinking if canterd strata instead if contact pro, to relieve knew pressyre, still able to strap up standing up, but would the convenience of step ins as well as strapping up on the chair lift 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Malcolm, great update thanks, I don't see any affiliate links on this, do you have one ? Looked at "fresh farm" and seems they're taking pre orders but looks like the 20/21 model. What year is the update video model ? B.
No affiliate links unless Blue Tomato are stocking them! I'm still on the pre production model, it has a slightly weaker spring in the release, but otherwise exactly the same as what's gonna be coming out!
You had the first full review of these bindings, and while other reviewers are just going to release their first review, you're already on the follow-up video :D Killing it on the review front, this year, haha! Thanks for the follow-up!
Thanks Carlos!

😂🥳 awesome, you'll love them!
Did you make the right decision...?... im also torn between the step ons and these
With any binding it is about the adjustability and making sure it is centred and set how you like it. Even though this has a big trick to it, you still fully reviewed it on top of a detailed consideration of the step in function, and appreciated who may use each function.
Precious little info out there and this review hits the nail on the head for anyone considering this binding.
Thanks Kuan ✌
Great review once again. I am one of the 'older' people who is beginning to struggle clipping in every time. Thanks
Thanks Manny, nothing wrong with that, we'll all be one of the 'older' people at some point!
Hi man. I also come from the 80s... 52's years. I've been snowboarding since 1987. Great! And, as say in my city, DAJEEEEEEEE!
DC and Nitro are also offering boots for Step-on system now.
I preordered mine when they were available for preorder. Can't wait to leave my friends while they're strapping in.
best review i have ever seen, literally said everything
Thanks Valerio ✌
Really looking forward to your return this season Malcolm.
It will be my first season Snowboarding instead of Skiing and your videos have done nothing but hype me up!
Awesome, I'll be back in early December 😀
Rode these indoors for the first time.Worked well but had a lot of pain underfoot! Realised i am used to cranking down my Union Force really hard, but these are way more responsive. Put them much looser than i normally would and they rode much better with no pain! Can't wait to try these in the mountains.
Awesome enjoy 🙌🙌
Thanks for these videos man, I got these bindings delivered this morning and I can't wait to ride them in a few days.
Great follow up. We’ve pre-ordered our thanks to seeing yours and your review. See you on the hill next season
🥳🥳🥳
Didn't realise you had covered all this in a separate video from your other one. Thanks.
Secured a pair right after your first video. Thanks for the follow-up Malcolm!
Awesome!
Awesome, I hope you enjoy them! Fingers crossed they make your life easier 🙏
Where were you able to preorder them? The website hasnt had the option to preorder for some reason.
@@cooliestguy45 - I pre-ordered them online at the-house in June.
@@cooliestguy45 I ordered them on House
Apparently your videos werent enough. The new color got me over the finish line in buying them 😋
Got a few runs in the snowhall in but I’m stoked to get them on a real slope in december.
Yeah I totally agree 💯
Great review. I am grabbing these due to the detail and confidence you provided on functionality and utilization.
I have brought supermatic last week, this video are very useful! thanks.
Awesome glad they help!
What a gamechanger
Yeah they are!!
Paul
Cheers Paul, yeah, I've really had no isssue with them at all!
As being a patroller on a board becomes more and more widely accepted across the worlds mountains these could be a total game changer
Thanks for the idea, maybe I'll do it 🤔
Honestly for me though where I live it doesn't drop that cold, so underneath my clothes I just layer with regular clothing.
Great review, mate! Very tempted. Like all your videos - it made me want to get out onto the mountain again!
Thanks for the solid review and follow up! I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit when you mentioned they’ll be giving a tether strap with these after coming from your other video where you have a friendly jab about how “other step in bindings giving those straps for a reason!” Haha
Haha yeah, it's all to do with legal requirements in the US I think more than anything else!
Usual fine clear cool and minty communicating from MM. might demo at xscape next week. I don’t mind the bending but can see the joy. And I’m 72 in March 25:)
nice one... didn't expect a product review from you mate... been watching lots of your technique vids, which are brilliant... And funnily enough im looking for new bindings, i have flows, so more than happy with them, thought about burton stepins but i love my boots too much, so its between getting new flows or these. you have one of the most positive reviews of them, there are a lot of negative ones... you might have made my mind up.,. and yes i'm a bit older, thanks for that !! lol...
i'm the lone boarder in a group of skiers, and these bindings and very early flows are my go to; i hate to be the one people are waiting on.
Would the release be better if you pulled up instead of push down 😗
If you only want to have 1 binding for everything, Ride C-8 is number 1 binding this year for sure and the price is really good.
As a big Ride supporter I still would take Rome black labels over the c-8
Finally some step ins that make me feel I won't forever mourn the death of the Switch system! They look fantastic.
Yeah they're a thumbs up from me
Thank you! This just solidified my decision to get these for this coming season. Cheers
So how are you liking them?
@@KrisOO17 There are two downsides I found so far.
1. They are slightly heavier although I do need the extra large ones.
2. The GNU's seemingly unnecessary extra step of the ankle tightness latch turned out to be a pro in some scenarios such as when riding long lifts because you can very easily loosen it for the ride up for comfort. Can't do that on the Supermatics but you really can't do that on any other style of binding other than the GNU style anyway without actually loosening the strap (or boot on some styles of step ins).
Pros:
Awesome man, thanks for the info. I think I'll try them out next season @@Matthew-.-
So in-depth reviews thx Malcolm!!
Can't wait for the season to begin!!
I think you'll find them quite different to the burton step ons, but I definitely prefer them, November should still be fine for before winter!
@Makani Did you Go back to the burtons or?
Ah, you can't rotate them, well spotted!
@@malcolmmoore is that something you usually do with traditional bindings?
@@DjalmaBorges yeah you normally can canter your highbacks to align better with your heel edge, it's mot a game changer though
What up Malcolm 🤟🏾 what’s the name of the board? I want me a volume shifted sled also. Thanks for all hard work and love for the sport 🔥
Add riding the tow lift with kids to that list. By the time I am clipped in my son is already lining back up again. 🙄
As I can see Nidecker really nailed it. An if there is a patent… fab!
Yeah they nailed it 😊
I’m exactly what you explained tu be the target market.
Thanks for the advice ✌
Replying to this super late as well. I have US Size 11 Burton Photons and have the XLs. I'm 99% sure I could've fit them in the Ls and it probably would've been better. No big issues of extra movement, but I did have to use the discs oriented so that I used the better adjustability to push the bindings as far towards the toe edge as possible.
Fast approaching 50. These will do for stomping around the Portes du Soleil on my weekends. Cheers for being honest about the "great for old folks" line. ;-) haha
Have fun!
Malcolm, did you ever tried Burton Step Ons? I just got mine and quite happy. I what to know your opinion. - Marry Christmass.
Hmm I'm not sure tbh I get your concern, did you buy online?
@@malcolmmoore turns out I had my toe strap too tight, loosen 2 clicks, everything goes smoothly.
🤞
Thanks Malcolm! Good review
Thanks ☺️☺️
Thx for the review.. the size charts have changed, just FYI. L is up to 10.5 and XL from 11 up.
Oh good to know thanks!
looks like these bindings are for me
i am in the "older" category
going to Europe in 2 weeks
hope i can pick them up
4:00 I could see that as a big issue - even though you say you needed to push quite hard, you still managed to push the release loose with your naked thumb.
XL coming next winter, as in the one after this, 23/24
@@malcolmmoore big mistake. There are big foot people on the world too. haahhaha. Thanks for the answer, Malcolm.
Thanks for the review. Are u still using usual bindings in some cases or u stick only to nideckers?
I am in process of buying new set. An can't choose between usual bindings, for example Union Atlas or Burton cartels, and nideckers.
Glad I pre-ordered these! Great review as always
where did you preorder
@@DrainGang-vy6mg The House
I really appreciate how comprehensive your reviews of the Supermatic have been, thanks! Do you know if there'll be any changes to the 22/23 model, or is staying the same?
It's staying the same, just some added colourways and sizes 👍 - sorry, the added sizes and colours will be the following winter.
Great review, thanks
Hey Malcolm, well done! How would you compare these to responsiveness to other brand/models? That might be a bit helpful. Say a burton Genesis or Cartel? Clearly Union Atlas more stiff and responsive, but can you draw any comparisons?
Would be interested in this as well.
Burton Cartels, I go over this in the original review too 👍
Great review! I wear a UK 10 boot, do you think I'd be better with the XL's?
Hmmmm, I would just message nidecker, you're right on the limit of either.
Thanks for the info man, greatly appreciated!!
No worries!
o no... I had a preorder on these in my local snowboardshop, but it seems like I have to wait another year for the XL bindings. (size 46 EU)
Great honest review these 2 vids 👌🏼
But I think you were a bit unfair to the Clew bindings.
Besides that, the big advantages that the Clew bindings have:
For people who love stiff bindings, they are pretty stiff!
I still have them on one of my regular boards 😊😊
But not the Dada? I bought a second-hand Pentaquark last year. Really like it. Currently my favourite board (of my 10!)
Yeah it's a good board, it's not for beginners, but if you're at a good level then for sure it's a very fun board!
Basically for me, these are a normal binding with step in functionality, whereas the burtons definitely have a different feel, flex, and ride to them
@@malcolmmoore thx dude… appreciate the quick reply… 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Missed out on the '23 batch so just pre-ordered the '24 stock which should come in October. They are £399 by the way. I've also ordered new board and boots (end of season '23 sales) for the first time in over a decade so already counting the days to next season's snow........groan....
Long summer ahead!
Hey Malcolm. Love your content. Do you know when and where we can get these?
Nidecler website or in snowboard shops, they should be coming into stock from mid September 👍
Yeah exactly 💯
Hi Malcolm
Another great video. Thank you so much.
I could not find on the web a reseller in France or in Europ to order for a pair of these beauties .
Any help ? I live in Grenoble not far from l'AdH. Perhaps see you there for Eurocarving this season. Cheers.
I think the pre-sale bindings sold out, but they should be back in stock by the start of October! And yes, hit me up if you're ever riding adh!
Haha, awesome, hope you like them!
Where did you find them? Everywhere online shows them out of stock 😢
Just bought these Bad Boys! Size XL White :) gonna pair them with K2 Excavator 162 and hope they gonna rock ! 🔥🔥🏂❄️
Epic!
Another great video, thanks Malcolm. Hadn’t heard about these bindings, super interesting. Do you know how they compare to CLEW by chance?
I haven't ridden them myself, but I do go into this a little bit in the first video
Great review Malcolm!
Do you tested Supermatic bindings with Burton Ion buts? I have Burton Ions, and I try to figure out how Nidecker Supermatic will work with them.
Yes, I'm using the ions, they work fine!
Thanks for great follow up! Do you know if these bindings are unisex or available for women too?
Yeah, if the size fits!
I think these bindings will be revolutionary. What worries me is that there are so many moving parts that wear and tear parts are inevitable. The question is will Nidecker provide these part for replacement or will we have to buy a whole new set of bindings?
I don't see why not. They offer replacement parts for flow bindings and even have a PDF you can download of the part you want to replace
Exactly as Sam said, I actually toured the European distribution centre the other day and they are stocked up with spare parts. North America will be the same 👍
@@malcolmmoore awesome, looks like I might actually have to consider a pair now :)
I would stick with this size, I'm in Burton Ions, which do have a good reduced footprint though
@@GazSinnett Did you order some in the end ? Mine should be arriving in a few days.. so welcome to meet up and have a go 🙂
@@dominiccrawford7475 No I've never managed to find anywhere with them in stock or open for orders
Hey Malcom do you think you could make a video explaining the best turns for going off of jumps and if they differ depending on what trick you are trying to acheive?
Yeah I might get to this later in the season, but generally speaking off the toes for backside and off the heels for frontside!
@@malcolmmooreI was more or less referring to most flexed vs. most extended or up unweighted/down unweighted
Spectacular 👍
Malcolm, I'm going off topic here, but I remember seeing you in one of your videos that you ride a road bike during summer time.
The bindings can be adjusted like regular ones to fit your boots, so if you're within what the size chart recommended I'm sure it'll work!
Would you recommend these over burton step ons
I already have a pair of Burton step-on boots, will these work with them? Or will the heel and toe cleats on the boots get in the way?
Step on boots were really just designed to work with step in bindings, not just because of the clips, but because of how they have been designed to work without straps over the top. In theory you probably could get a pair in these bindings, like how you could probably get them in a set of normal bindings, but that's not what they were designed for.
@@malcolmmoore Thank you for the reply! Yeah I’m just trying to save money and use the boots I already have. Just wanted to see if the cleats on the Burtons would mess with or damage the straps on the Supermatics.
Was there any issues bending down to release them, with the lever being on the i side of your feet?
Ahah thanks sending me there and I have another question 🙋
Some guys testing it say it s quite hard under the heel because there s no Eva foam like on other bindings and it makes quite unconfortable after long day riding... Your thoughts?
There's some padding under the heel. It's not thick, but you won't be bothered unless you ride barefoot.
Thank you for your advice, im hard core union, but im getting older and now thinking if canterd strata instead if contact pro, to relieve knew pressyre, still able to strap up standing up, but would the convenience of step ins as well as strapping up on the chair lift 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Chris, good to hear from you, hope you're well 👍
Hi Malcolm, great update thanks, I don't see any affiliate links on this, do you have one ?
Looked at "fresh farm" and seems they're taking pre orders but looks like the 20/21 model. What year is the update video model ?
B.
No affiliate links unless Blue Tomato are stocking them! I'm still on the pre production model, it has a slightly weaker spring in the release, but otherwise exactly the same as what's gonna be coming out!
