Thanks for spending time to help ! Great bike sometimes a PIA to work on because of all the plastic ! Looked in manual and had a heck of a time finding seat latch at first ! Now I know where it is ! Thanks the help
yup tank empty makes it much easier, and I left the 2 front screws in the air filter housing in place, Loosen them, took out the rest and then pulled the housing. I tried to pull them out with magnetic screwdriver, however I guess the magnet was not strong enough as they seemed like they were going to come off, so I just unscrewed and pulled the housing off with the screws in the housing, much easier.
Thanks for the video man, this ended up being pretty easy, and my filter was REALLY bad. Bike much happier now. I took it for a nice ride after and man it made a big difference :)
Exceptional presentation. I will attempt to manifest and maintain your demeanour when I drop my first Phillips head tank screw into never never land :) but his is my first view inside my next bike and what awesome engineering!
The two front screws can be left in position and when loosened will lift in and out easily with the top cover. Don’t try to fish them out just lift the cover out level the screws will stay in there bays and when you reinstall the cover, they will carefully drop right back into the holes they came out… No use to take the chance fishing or dropping them…
Great video, a little helper is replace the air filter with the gas tank fairly low on fuel, with over 6 gallons of fuel when filled it is quite heavy to move around.
Buy one I got mine in October best bike iv ever had, I’m 63 love the protection from wind, the power is so smooth in any gear but a wee bit heavy when I stopped on way home from dealer and stupidly filled the tank to the tits on way home then nearly dropped it at traffic lights. Great bike tho
I just bought my 4.5th ST1300 ('03) and yet to get it home soon. I had had 2 '03 and 1 '06 before. I had re-purchased my 2nd '03 from the buyer after 2 years! My family suspects major brain damage... Anyway, after trying 'lighter' sport-touring motorcycles, such as, ST2, FJ-09, and a not-so-light GL1800, I decided to return to my trusted village and the faithful donkey again.
@@santanumaitra3962 the ST didn’t t fit me well. I tried to make it work but I’m more into the Heavy weight bikes so I traded it in on an Indian Roadmaster. Couldn’t be happier!!
Thanks for showing us! I watched this just out of curiosity. I´m owning my third ST 1100 by now and expected that air filter replacement would be just the same. Not at all I would say. But then the ST 1100 of course has the tank under the seat.
I bought the bike with the mods. The more I look, the more mods I see it has. I doubt that accessory is still available but check around on the ST Owners sites/groups
I'm guessing that filter element was the same one that came off to begin with, you didn't mention it but I had a quote of $85CDN for that sucker. Nice vid cheers!
I replaced the element but may have done it twice just for the video and used the new filter. I really can't recall. They are expensive but should last a Long Time.
This seems more fun then the oil filter change was. I write the date, with my full name and address, on all air filters. Thanks for posting and pick one of my least favorite video's for watching the roads.
@@JustPlainCommonSense I had a Corbin setup on my CBR, it was comfortable but not enough for longer distances (500-650 miles a day) then again, the bike played a big role in that as well.
@@JustPlainCommonSense haha, I thought your name sounded familiar. Thanks for the support. Long distance riding is kind of my passion. You get used to it after some time. But a good seat, highway pegs, and heli bars help tremendously.
Yes that Corbin looks much more comfortable than the one on my ST. I have a PA model with the driver only seat. I can only ride the bike and hour or so before I need to get off of it due to seat discomfort. How long would you say you could ride with that seat comfortably? It looks like it would be a great improvement for my bike but wanted some feedback before deciding on which replacement seat to chose.
I’ve had two ST1300s and this isn’t so terribly hard. I had to chg to a Goldwing in 2016 because the ST1300 was too tall in the saddle and too too heavy for my 73 year old legs. I’ve never changed the air filter on the Goldwing.

@@JustPlainCommonSense Sorry to hear that. Amazon has JIS for decent prices as does McMaster-Carr. One suggestion, pick up a couple of the air cover screws. If you drop one, trying to get it out of the abyss, can be a real PIA! ;)

I was just told a few days ago that the valves are manually adjusted. I had no idea! I'm selling it so I won't be going down that path.
