      This game was one of the first games on Xbox One, along with Dead Rising 3.
      I deeply enjoyed the game, storyline and fighting mechanics, it felt like a roman cross between assassin's creed's fighting and arkham city. Too bad it was treated like a tech demo, because that was essentially what it was, the game was made to mainly show the cryengine on the Xbox One.

      Bulgarian Beyonder You can still make peace with peoples. Also, I'm not sure we can consider Iran existing as a nation state at that point; by definition, it would have to be independent in the first place, and it was part of the Parthian empire, followed by the Sassanid one

    • @jordinagel1184
      @jordinagel1184 7 лет назад +1

      If that is so, then why are there different names? And don't delude yourself into thinking that the whole empire was a unified state; satraps were a thing you know, and many peoples still retained individuality. And Iranians didn't exist back then. You had Persians, Parthians, Medians, Lakhmids, Azerbaidjanis... The name Iran wasn't mentioned until the third century.
      Of course you can make peace with individual peoples. How else do you think peace was settled in those times? Obviously you can hardly make peace with all of the Gallic tribes, but making peace with individual tribes is completely possible. Or with individual city states like Athens or Massilia. Or kingdoms like Macedon. I really don't see what's so hard to understand about that.

Nowhere during the lives of any of them was Rome sacked. That hadn't happened for a while and wouldn't happen against until 410, long after all of these people died.

    A friend of mine described this game as "300 on steroids", which is about as accurate of a description as it can be 😂
    The game definitely suffers from repetitive gameplay, but them kill moves are so satisfying, that i dont mind it all that much. Playing it on pc at 1440p on ultra settings, you'd think the game just got release because of how beautiful it looks.
    Not to mention the story, it's obviously not historically accurate and never claims to be, but it's a very compelling story, seeing Marius go from a naive son wanting to be a soldier, to being bloodthirsty with revenge, to being fed up and tired from war, to being betrayed, and finding himself forced into a war with a woman he came to respect and sympatize with. The whole gods part was the weakest and could've easily been set aside, but other than that, i absolutely love the story and would love to see a film adaptation.
    And the voice acting is soooo good. The guy voicing commodus is so entertaining in this scene, but everyone shines at their own moment.
    So great game, very underrated.

    Look I'm a huge history nut like many people who criticised this game for "historical innacuracy". To those people I say:
    IT'S A VIDEO GAME!
    The same industry where we have angry demigods turned gods that can hold up the foot of the collosus of Rhodes on his own, a world where an army guy can punch through a massive boulder, a world where a purple dragon collects gems for a living!
    Ryse Son of Rome never claimed to be a 100% historically accurate game. The only part where they focused on accuracy or "realism" was with the combat and fighting techniques. If you want a game solely focused on realism, go play Red Dead Redemption 2.

  • @AllGamingStarred
    @AllGamingStarred 3 года назад +15

    It's strange how the son escapes death for treason against Rome (presenting peace then murdering the emissary of said peace) and blatant murder during peacetime. Game or not, he should be sentenced to death for that act alone.

    • @thibautisserant
      @thibautisserant Год назад +2

      It is explained later on that Nero had all opposition assassinated some time before this. Therefore no one dared make Commodus face any consequences. Of course, this wasn't without repercussions. As you come back you see Rome slipping into civil war even before the barbarian invasion. So even without Marius' intervention, Commodus would have faced his comeuppance.

  • @marcopena5117
    @marcopena5117 Год назад +4

    5:25 Vitallion looked so irritated right here. The way he pans around, assessing the situation that was just forced upon him by his own general, desperate to keep focused on the coming battle but enraged at the thought of having to fight yet again and lose more soldiers yet again after having already fought 3 costly campaigns back to back to back without going to Rome for rest and reinforcement. The legion officers are tired, the soldiers are tired, and there numbers fast dwindling. Commodus doesn't care one bit. By the end of Pax Romanus the 14th legion has to be at a 3rd of it's strength, at least. Their losses were staggering.

    Can someone pls explain how Romans killed Marius' father?

    • @fighterx9840
      @fighterx9840 2 года назад +1

      Emperor Nero was jealous at how popular Leontius, Marius' father, was to the people of Rome. And he felt threatened when Leontius wanted to give Rome back to the people and Nero didn't want that. So he had his family butchered, I think

      Hacked Account if Sparta was in its prime, I think it would’ve had a different outcome. As the years went on, Sparta was nothing but a shadow of its former self.

      Zaxh 1x Sparta was a mere city state, Rome was a empire.
      And before you bring up 300 I should point out that Xerxes was an idiot and the Spartans didn't defeat the Persians alone.

    • @deaclavilis6760

      Epamineinondas of Thebes made a destructive impact on original Sparta we know in fourth century BC. The weird thing is that the commander himself (Epamineinondas) is an underrated historical name who were actually able to defeat and invade Spartans thanks to his commanding skills and the holy regiment (homosexual soldiers who were strongly connected each other). After that weakened Sparta easily obeyed the rule of strong Macedonian Kings with all along with other mere city states, as time passed Sparta altered into an ordinary one. Also, if they were at prime level when dealing with Rome then Sparta most likely get defeated to them. Roman state possessed huge resources that Spartans could not be a rival. Moreover historically Roman legions proved themselves against Greek / Macedonian war machine. Classical Helen war elements were distinct from flexible Romans and less succesful then Roman ones (although Aleksandros invaded huge lands, his succesors could not defend themselves against Romans).
      A Roman legion had become still superior to prime degree Spartan warriors. Romans were flexible and more mobile compare to whatever all Greek ones.

      The king actions cost rome troops to deal with it and the king himself humiliated Commodus selling him as a slave, not only that the rebels destroyed the local infrastructure that the Romans build to increase the local living standard and all this damage would take decades to repair costing Rome coin, he deserved to be executed.

    • @getfreur2458

      Yes he was a little shit, but don't change that not only Oswald was stupid to rebel against a continental power, but was more stupid to humiliated the emperor son and expect no retaliation.
