      Ja. Level Rachmaninov. Wir haben sagenhafte Spitzenpianisten, so dankbar bin ich! Aber Sokolov und Rachmaninov, die sind einfach überirdisch, technisch sowieso und in Sachen Gestaltungskraft göttlich inspiriert.
      Wobei, ich lächele, Sokolov kommt es vor, daß er auch mal danebengreift, was ich bei anderen Spitzengrößen wie Langlang und so weiter so gut wie nie höre. Das tröstet mich, der ich Organist und Klavierspieler auf Ebene Lokalmathador war, lächel.
      Während ich schreibe, haut er grad eine der dramatischsten Stellen des ersten Satzes in die Tasten. Schweißtreibend. Beglückend. Brahms, das Kraftvolle extrem männlich hingehauen, das Feine und Träumerische maximal fein ausgespielt. Wow,, so mag ich es.
      Danke, danke, danke.

      Few pianists REALLY do the right hand solo thirds from the last movement convincingly. MAH, Zimmerman, Pollini arguably, and that's probably it, with Hamelin with the cleanest runs, as far as I can tell. But with Sokolov we get all the thirds with art. Nothing mechanical.

    • @spell105
      @spell105 Месяц назад +1

      Such a beautiful etude in the first place, and to then just casually put down the best performance of it after such a difficult concerto as Brahms 2nd is insane. That concerto is such an endurance run, you would forgive the pianist for picking something casual and easy, but Sokolov just has to whip out one of the hardest etudes and delivers a mind blowing performance of it too.
      Truly the greatest pianist of all time.

    Thank you so much for posting this! I have been looking for just such an interpretation of this masterpiece! The remarkable thing about this piece (at least to me) is that Brahms seems to have worked a very delicate balance of the tempo (especially in the solo sections of the first movement). And the pianist needs to be cognizant of that. If he/she plays too fast where he/she needs to be playing slow, they will almost certainly run out of steam later on. Grigori Sokolov is the first pianist that I’ve seen who appears to have recognized this balance. The result speaks for itself……❤❤👏👏

      Serkin had much better taste. Sokolov brings too much of himself into the music. If one likes his unusual choices it's fine. I usually do not

    The thing i love about Sokolov is the very directness, and depth of sound. That is something he was born with i guess. would. Also his use of gravity, never stuck to the keyboard, which makes depth rather that strike from a shorter distance. Amazing ❤

      @@paulmoon3347Sokolov played 3 encores after Brahms concerto no 2! Chopin prelude! Chopin etude the Ocean! And Bach-Siloti prelude! Why Bach-Siloti is missing because tv time run out the Finnish broadcasting company had to show the 8:30(20:30) clock news! No way we the Finnish stop our news! I followed the whole concert on Radio!

    El director hace una parte muy importante en la coordinación de los tiempos y el equilibrio del concierto. Saraste ( ? ) merece un reconocimiento especial. Por cierto, Borges por única vez menciona la música clasica en toda su obra, no es extraño ? Precisamente asistió a este concierto pero no mencionó al concertino, a la orquesta ni en dónde lo escuchó. Se entendió con Catarphilus en griego antiguo y olvido estos detalles y no al perro.

    Dommage que quelques minimes accrocs se soient glissés dans ce remarquable enregistrement, qui nous permet de voir la maturité qu'avait déjà "notre" Sokolov de l'époque, qui nous montre combien il a encore muri dans ces dernières années ! A ne surtout pas manquer s'il passe dans nos régions...
