Sokolov played 3 encores that night after Brahms concerto no 2! Chopin prelude! Chopin etude the Ocean! Bach-Siloti prelude! Bach-Siloti prelude is missing because tv time run out the Finnish broadcasting company had to show the news 8:30(20:30)!
In my opinion Sokolov is the best pianist in the world I'm so glad he's still performing in 2022 and it's such an inspiration to listen to how he brings out the beauty of the piano like no other!
Ja. Level Rachmaninov. Danke, danke, danke.
As with other Sokolov performances I've had the pleasure of listening to - beautiful, powerful and exciting. A work of musical art. Thank you for sharing.
I had the privilege to watch this master at work, on the stage. I took a photo with him and everything, focused on stage but the nicest person on earth backstage. Such an experience
Probably the best performance of Brams to me! Absolutely Monumental, captivating, emotionally and rationally balanced, with fantastic incompareable sound and truly musical genius touch!
Pretty sure he’s got Richter and Gilels beat-hands down-on this performance. Don’t think any performance I’ve heard (so far, during my 70 years on this planet) comes even close.
I have recently listened to about 10 performances of this concerto, all by great pianists. And there is something about this performance that really stands out as exceptional.
I agree. Such a sensitive pianist, but his technique and power are so assured, and brilliant for a Brahms reading. Congratulations on the recording quality and camera work! The orchestra and conductor were just as strong in support. I'll subscribe !
In 1977 I started attending the University of Alberta in Edmonton. That fall I attended the first of many performances of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. The first performance featured Misha Dichter playing this concerto. The performance in this video is absolutely splendid and brings back many good memories.

Such a beautiful etude in the first place, and to then just casually put down the best performance of it after such a difficult concerto as Brahms 2nd is insane. That concerto is such an endurance run, you would forgive the pianist for picking something casual and easy, but Sokolov just has to whip out one of the hardest etudes and delivers a mind blowing performance of it too. This is so far ahead of any other performance. Right from the first phrase, Sokolov shines. Romantic music is where Sokolov is truly himself. I’ve never heard another pianist able to play Brahms so beautiful, not to mention the incredible etude encore. Casually performs the op 25 no 12 etude in the most passionate and sonorous way. Bravo.

The remarkable thing about this piece (at least to me) is that Brahms seems to have worked a very delicate balance of the tempo (especially in the solo sections of the first movement).

hahaha
For many years I have regarded the performace of this concerto by Emil Gilels and Fritz Reiner (Chicago Sym) as definitive Now there are two definitive perfromamces: Sokolov and Gilels.
And Richter

Exelente estudio. de çhopin. №1. ❤️🇮🇷😘
I can is a man unlike any!'t believe Sokolov in this .I've watched Sir Curzon in this over and over but Sokolov has a depth a sound .Seems like Radu Lupu never recorded this did he ever play it ?
Deslumbrante.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏Grossartig - bin sprachlos.
Grigory Sokolov=THE TITAN OF THE PIANO!! THE GIANT OF THE PIANO!! Grigory Sokolov his Chopin piano concerto no 2! Brahms piano concerto no 2! Mozart piano concerto no 24! Saint-Saens piano concerto no 2! AFTER GRIGORY SOKOLOV PLAYED THESE CONCERTOS THEN ALL THE OTHERS PIANISTS ARE REALLY ONLY THE DUST ZEROS!!! GRIGORY SOKOLOV VERSUS ALL THE OTHERS PIANISTS 100-0!!
CRAZY

insane trill...
I opened my eyes wide to an extent I didn't thought possible before when I watched that.
Maravilloso concierto.
