    Awesome, thinking about bringing this in as an assignment for my high school arts class as an excuse for them to create something they never would in another class and to teach them about tattoo history. Very cool.

    Would love to hear more about spit shading. When I coffee stain, I use a teaspoon or two of instant espresso, with a little water. Gives a cool gritty look when applied with a foam brush. Also, I think it would be cool if you could provide a line drawing so we could do a “paint along”. Just an idea. Cheers.

    Hi. I think digital helps us a lot. I do most of the styles and now learning traditional and I would waste so much paper and if you use Archers, which is shit expensive here in poland you gonna waste a lot of money. So you sketch and train yourself digitally then switch to traditional. With oil or acrylic painting is slightly different. You paint and half of it just happens on itself.

    • @SoberjoeSe

    Hey boss, super-rad lesson. I really dug it. Quick question; It looks like you were possibly using a thicker liner pen on this flash piece (I could be totally wrong) than what was listed on the materials page on your site. I grabbed everything off your list but think my new liner (non-tapered, 1.0) may still be a bit too thin. Do you recommend a thicker pen for a medium to large piece like in this lesson? If so, what size? Thanks again man, you’re gnarly.

    • @SoberjoeSe
      @SoberjoeSe  3 года назад +1

      Hi man! Glad you liked it. I’m using a Copic Multiliner 1.0 (classic, not SP) isn’t this video and the design is painted on a A5 sized paper. Regarding line sizes it’s totally up to you. I like having a thick line while others might want to have a thinner one for better details. Show me your paintings over on Instagram, I’d love to see!

    • @mattsalik
      @mattsalik 3 года назад +1

      @@SoberjoeSe Hey, boss! Thanks for hitting me back! I wasn’t able to find the Copic liners in town, but I did grab some non-tapered 1.0s from the art store. Actually, after using the liners for a few more hours tonight, they really started to get a bit fatter and more uniform with each pull (plus, smoother on the watercolor paper). Mine might be a bit thinner than yours still, but I’ll keep experimenting. I know I’ll be able to better match pen widths to actual machine liner widths at some point, but now it’s unclear. As for sharing the paintings, nah, they’re for sure gonna suck for a while but, once they start looking almost decent, I’ll be sure to share for your thoughts and critique. Tear them apart man, I’ll need the corrections! Thanks again for getting back to me, Chief! Have a good one!

      Copying them straight off claiming it being yours is not the correct way of doing it. Study the design you like and try to redraw them a couple of times changing the things you don't like. Finally you will have altered them as your own design.
