Wow, that drill is crazy. Defenition of stupdity-doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results... and you go out on a big limb and go with your gut, and its going to pay huge dividends. Well done, definitely the right chioce for your operation. Lets chip that Fastrac though and dual it up 😂

I've seen pictures of duals on the fastrac, not sure how well that would work on the 4220 with it having 4 wheel steering...
David, that new drill looks like the real answer.
It may be that under normal operation, the row openers and packers carry much of the implement weight. When you use the "pot hole" feature to avoid them sinking into the mud, it probably lifts the gangs slightly which would transfer weight to the drawbar and show the increased traction you're seeing.
Those air-seed tubes appear corrugated on the outside. Are they smooth on the inside? If not, that could contribute to plugging. In air-solids flow, the heavier fraction will shift to the outside going around curves (or low spots). Seed may hang up or accumulate on any rough surfaces.
Regardless, we'll all be looking forward to your experience with the new equipment. And seeing how that triticale works out.
No experience with this drill but ive inspected the pronto closely several times and its tubes are smooth on the inside and corrugated outside, looks to be the same with this one.

I grew up with farm practices that were old school before old school was a thing. Pretty sure we did 10" spacing with a 10' Ontario hoe drill that was converted from horse drawn to tractor pulled. (My dad actually used horses with it when he was a boy.) Glad you mentioned Horsch NA Avatars vs Euro. I was wondering how you managed to get it, and speculating if it might become more commonplace here (you trendsetter, you). Most Euro brands like, Amazone & Maschio, tend to lean heavily toward 5"-6.5" spacing. Always wondered why. Love to see the stand once the seed's up.
Thank you @wcooman1694! We will definitely have more videos to come of emergence and the performance of the crop as it comes up. We definitely wanted to try the tight spacing on this drill, and the North American drills just can't get that tight for some reason...
When you calibrated it, wouldnt it be a good idea to check the calibration again to make sure? Youre already doing so much might as well double check the work. Interesting to connect your drill to your phone. I saw a bluetooth trailer brake controller just the other day. Everything is so full of data anymore
Yes, you are completely right. What I typically do is check the calibration after the first few acres. I like the idea of letting the seed pack into the metering rollers to see if it changes. So far, the second calibrations have been within .04 of a pound or less.

Seed bounce could be from the row unit running over a stone below the surface.

The fast track looks like its running with that drill, in your opinion would 170 hp fwd pull it ?
The fastrac 4220 is doing well with it, but it could use a few more hp. It should have 270hp on it...
Just watch for the depth of the seed increasing after rain as this washes the fluffy soil into the seed trench. I've had canola not come through (soil cover increased and then capped surface) after heavy rain.
Did you roll after planting? Those around me with that experience ddi also roll after planting. And before the rain 😅
I don't think thats gonna be an issue with this drill with how its all set up and works but its still an important thing to keep in the back of your head thats for sure.

Those are great points to watch out for in regard to seed depth. We typically like to roll ahead of the no till drill. We find that after can sometimes burry the small seeds too deep.

Awesome content. I am looking at getting a 40' avatar for soybeans and cover crop in North Central ND. Any advice, things to stay away from, etc? Much appreciated!
Be interested in whether or not the rows in the tractor tracks come up evenly and the same time as the others. Also, more wear in the tractor tracks?
So far I'm a very big fan of everything horsh avatar wheather it's the NA version or Euro. I don't personally know a pile about soybean production, however the you tube channel "Brian's Farming Videos" uses a 40' Avatar for his soybeans, and it appears to work very well for him. I would think the 10" spacing on the NA version would be ideal for you! Plus the speed and precision of course.
You should have looked at the Horizon DSX drill which offers more clever solutions for intercropping. It also comes with Dcup diffusers so blowing the seed out of the furrow is impossible.
Thank you for the comment! We actually did look at the Horizon drill when we were at Agritechnica, check out our video back in November 2023. The reason the Horizon drills weren't a contender for us is that we do not have a local dealer anywhere in Canada for that brand...

@@ianw5056 first of all, I am owning DSX drill and I have had the privilege to test it versus all the other no till drills (all of them) on very heavy high mg soils and I can say without any speculation that DSX is the only one that can penetrate deep and close the slot without the furrows to open once to soil is drying. Avatar has no independent contour following. We ran the tests for spring barley drilling at 3 cm and the average drilling depth was 3.04 cm,. I have all the evidence for proving this, It all comes done to the geometry of the opener and closing system, If you have real evidence of proving on how the Avatar is better, please let us know,.
