This video is a remake of my old "Blue Bird" piano arrangement from 2016. Aside from the improved audio quality, there are also many improvements in the arrangement which might be hard to notice at the beginning. The rhythmic feeling has been vastly improved in some sections and I also added new variations as well. In a way, this videos showcases my progress as a piano arranger between 2016 and 2022.
I will highlight the some of the new additions and I will also explain why I arranged it in that particular way. You can compare it side by side with the old 2016 version of Blue Bird:
• Blue Bird - Naruto Shi...
0:41 Instead of playing the melody in one voice range, I decided to split up the melody in two octaves, to create a "dialogue" in the music: One voice is asking a question while the other voice is giving an answer. The music feels more alive in that way.
1:07 I completely reworked the left hand and added many syncopated rhythms to give the chorus a little bit more rhythmical energy. I also used a different rhythm for the short "throw-ins" in 1:09 and 1:15 to distinguish it more from the main melody.
1:19 The left hand is playing an octave higher to improve the dynamic contrast in this section. The rhythm is also more accentuated this time.
1:35 I added a new variation in the right hand to make the repetitive instrumental part more interesting. The music also becomes more dramatic, serving as a better contrast to the second verse.
1:45 The left hand gains a new secondary melody line, smoothly playing along the main melody in the right hand. Overall, the piece has become more polyphonically by all these small additions.
1:51 The rhythm has become more articulated in this new version, especially the left hand, which is playing a heavily accentuated pattern. The tension in the music has been improved as a result.
2:04 I added a new left hand rhythm with a silent "break" before the chorus melody to create a more dramatic entrance for the second chorus.
2:51 The rhythm has been vastly improved in the left hand. It matches the syncopations of the right hand much better and it's also less distracting, compared to the old version.
3:09 Probably the biggest new addition of this arrangement: The right hand plays a solo melody without the left hand, capturing the entire attention of the listener. Since the chorus is playing for the third time, I modified the melody as well in 3:13 to add more emotional weight in the music.
3:36 The right hand plays a completely different pattern instead of repeating the melody from earlier and it serves as the final climax before the music is slowly fading out. In short, all "instrumental solo" - parts from Blue Bird have a unique second half in this new version. Compare 0:16 with 1:26 and 3:29.
There are many more small additions, but I think these were the more important ones. Well then, I hope you enjoyed reading the video description this time! I almost feels like a changelog of a game update, haha. (Blue Bird v1.0 has finally evolved into Blue Bird v1.5)

Actually, it feels like this piece has become more conscious and mature over time. Even in performance, you can feel it from the first notes. So well did you convey the atmosphere of those days when we watched the beginning of Naruto Shippuden. Bravo, Animenz!

Some of my thought to this gorgeous arrangement:
The 2022 version of bule bird is a much more polished arrangement compared to the original edition, I will first note some of my favorite change Animenz made:
0:41 the melody is separated to different octave this time to create a ‘call and response’ effect. (they were originally in the same octave) Although I prefer a more sustain middle voice like you did in 2020 bilibili version, both are very good.
1:01 the left hand rhythm is slightly change which is so much better than the original one, but you remove the last note of the left hand second voice ( B C# D ‘’C#’’ ) , but interestingly, that C4# still ring in my brain, maybe it’s the resonance from a higher octave (C5#)?
1:07-1:17 similarly, the left hand pattern in this section is way more rhythmic than the original version, and so as the rhythm of right hand ornament at 1:09 and 1:15, which gives a brilliant color to the sound, I would say it requires some practice to play it cleanly.
1:24 so satisfying to smash that C2#
1:36 this is definitely one of my favorite change, the pedaling is CRISP, a fantastic choice as a lead in to the quiet yet colorful ‘call and response’ section.
1:49 a nice ornament
1:51-2:06 I really love this section:
First, at 1:53 and 1:56, what you do is just adding a note to a lower octave (A5 and B5 respectively), that add a lot of excitement to this section, but I prefer a more staccato sound and a dryer pedal as you did in 2020 bilibili version.
Secondly, at 2:01, same pattern as original version but the sound is so good so I want to mention it anyway.
Thirdly, at 2:04, very energetic left hand which was originally used at 3:10. (and you use a timpani-like left hand at 3:10 this time.)
Btw, is that a wrong note at 2:02 during the run? It should be E# instead of E, or you did that intentionally? (Because I also played it wrong, i.e. E, when I learned it, and it took me some time to get a correct muscle memory for E# ,haha)
Btw again, nice right hand ornament at 2:00 (God, the time stamp is not precise enough!!!! )
2:49 very beautiful dotted rhythm, and the following 2:52 has a beautiful implementation of dry pedal, which are way more expressive than the original version.
3:13 and 3:37, little variation in the melody is always fantastic for the climax and ending section.
That’s about it for the ‘difference’ I notice, then, Let’s move on to some random thoughts:
0:06 is an elegant little pause, very elegant.
0:09 I never get tired of that left hand second voice.
1:38-1:45 a delicate call and response section, you can see Animenz hold the last note of both the higher voice and lower voice to the next pedal so the two voice is sustained, just like they are singing to each other (e.g. 1:39 A4, 1:40 G5#, 1:41 F4#, 1:42 C5#). Similar technique is also used at 2:42
2:57 marvelous multi-voice section similar to the original version, I especially like the left hand voice at 3:02, It gives me a kinda-poignant feeling.

《Blue Bird》is one of the very few anime songs I can sing. It's full of warm colors of nostalgic memories!
The song is just like the main characters in the story growing up over time.
The 2022 version is a much more refined tone and smoother arrangement , more natural rhythm, everything is just right👍
I really like the fast and gorgeous playing of the right hand at 2:37, and after adjusting my breathing at 2:42. 2:57 slowly enters the lyrical multi-voice section. The shredded sound of the piano is like a choked sob that makes people unforgettable, "Naruto” is actually a story with many heartbreaks.
Next, I still like to let go of your left hand at 3:10 and play just single note with right hand to set the mood until 3:13 when left hand hits like drumbeats. As if saying goodbye to sadness, desperately rushing to the sky, eager to soar!
Kudos to Animenz for playing "Naruto” OST－《Sadness and Sorrow(哀と悲)》 during the live performance in Dubai. If 《Blue Bird》 is the red of unrestrained flames, 《Sadness and Sorrow》 is the dark blue burning at low temperature in the center of the flame, which is the background color of the story of "Naruto”.
It is very rare to hear Animenz adapting this style of traditional Japanese music.The poignant and touching sound of the piano is like hearing the samisen （三味線）recalling the dead characters in the story and expressing the loneliness in Naruto’s(鳴人)heart...
The entire scene of the performance seemed to be in a deep blue whirlpool. I was lost in the sound of Animenz's piano, deeply touched my heart. Such an amazing OST adaptation, looking forward to the opportunity to record and upload in the future!

I'm not kidding, this piano composition and the English lyrics, I'm putting this in my will to be played at my funeral, just like this. The English lyrics of Blue Bird resonate with my life, and particularly a very traumatic childhood. Naruto was the first anime I ever watched after first meeting my friends 7 years ago and since 1998 to 2002 when Pokémon started.

in India attending a wedding now so i don't have time to write a thesis style comment for today's beautiful rearrange, but the added nuance and layering of this version are a great reflection of how your style has evolved over time. great work!
I had learned to play your older arrangement and 10 months have passed since the last time I played it. I also liked really much the older arrangement and I used to listen to it 2 years ago. After all this time, the "bright" new sound thanks to technology, but most importantly, your new ideas, new counterpoints 0:40 , 1:00 , new techniques 1:07 , 1:13 , new expression of melody 1:35 , 3:10 , but also keeping it really similar to your older cover made this piece reflect on your character's maturity (as a pianist and probably as a person). This is a piece that means a lot for me , as I said, I've studied (I think thats the perfect word) on it a lot, as I couldn't ever really master the piece but mainly the part from 1:50 to 2:03 . Despite the previous, this I used to play/listen to this piece in the last two highschool years and especially on difficult days, as this piece in my ears just brings me hope with its melody. Now, I graduated highschool last year , I remember how many things seemed difficult and your sound brought me hope to continue fighting daily strugle, as now I am more mature as well and can see that I went through what seemingly felt impossiple. Lastly, I want to say "Thank you very much!" to the beatiful sound you once composed and you now keep composing.

Naruto is brilliant, specifically the Shippuden series. It was action packed, rivaling with jojo and dragon ball as some of the best anime’s of all time!
I don’t want to spoil much so I’ll just say it’s very long, and it’s amazing to see the characters develop
