@@spooopyd6756 @ You're absolutely right that corruption and economic challenges are significant issues in Albania-many Albanians themselves voice similar frustrations. It's a systemic problem, and while progress is slow, there are efforts being made by grassroots organizations and some reform-minded individuals to bring about change. Democracy is still a work in progress, as it is in many young nations.
Regarding safety and racism, I can see how those negative encounters could leave a lasting impression. Unfortunately, like in many places, prejudice exists, and societal conservatism can sometimes amplify this. However, many Albanians are incredibly warm and welcoming to people of all backgrounds, and there’s a strong tradition of hospitality in the culture. I hope this side of the country becomes more evident over time.
Sexism and harassment are global problems, and Albania is not immune. However, comparative analyses suggest that the prevalence of such behavior may be less pronounced in Albania than in certain other countries.
It’s true that a significant diaspora exists, often driven by economic and social aspirations, but many Albanians living abroad still carry a deep love for their homeland and invest in its development. While some choose to leave, others remain and fight for a better future.
Your experiences highlight areas where progress is urgently needed, but they are just one side of the coin. Albania also has a rich history, diverse culture, and incredible resilience among its people. I hope that, over time, you can find moments to appreciate the positives, even while acknowledging the negatives.

@@spooopyd6756 you are just a piece of shit spilling lies.
First of all, there is democracy in the country. You are just a blind pos lying because you don't like a leader. Can things be better? Sure, but now it's best it has ever been.
Women are not safe? I have traveled to a hundred cities in Europe and Tirana (and Albania in general) is the safest place. No one cares whether you are black, if you respect locals, they will respect you back. Most people in the country are young.
People who make fun of you if you don't speak the language are kids. Normal adults don't do that because it's retarded.
And of course there are many Albanian living abroad. I would rather make 300k euro/year abroad versus 30 in Tirana. This doesn't say anything negative about Albania.

I'm an American who came here almost 2 years ago. I ended up deciding to live here for alot of the same reasons (American culture was changing for the worse, great location to travel all around Europe, Albanian culture and the people are amazing, Tirana is very easy to get used to and navigate) All of my friends are Albanian, I don't associate with other expats. I find Albanians to be more sincere and friendly and I've got friends here I call family. So I'm grateful for the reception since deciding to live here. I now just married to an Albanian woman. The people here truly do value tradition, family, and just core values I find highly respectable and refreshing. Albanian has officially become my 2nd home and I'm beyond blessed I gave it a chance. If you have any questions or would like to speak with another American and my Albanian wife for any info reach out. I've got a friend for just about everything, and if they can't help surely they have a cousin that can. 😂 Cheers and welcome.

I will say this though, share the countries beauty and culture, though when you happen upon a hidden gem keep that so secret. The country’s beaches were in a Lonely Planet list years ago and people from other European countries started flocking to them which stressed the infrastructure at the time.
Learn about Besa, speak Albanian as often as you can, find friends, and be discerning if and when you decide to date (tell them you plan on staying in Albania forever and see if their interest is still there). Have fun! 🎉

$1 USD got 106 Albanian Lek in December of 2022, on my first stint there. Now it's at around 93 Lek to $1. Rent prices have also increased a lot in just the past two years and will continue to go up. Renters must also fork over 3.5 months up front to move in. That's a lot considering that landlords in Albania can be unscrupulous and there's no guarantee at all that a renter wouldn't have all kinds of drama with their landlord. That said, the food is good in Albania and it's still cheaper, for the time being, than major metro areas in the U.S.

This is because there is a strong sense of community. I cannot leave my car unattended in the middle of Berlin because someone will scratch it, hit and run, steal my wheels or worse. Oh absolutely, shop local, and avoid the big supermarkets where foreigners tend to go. We don’t buy our produce, bread and meats there generally. If it’s looking pretty and packed nicely, it costs double and it’s not even local or organic.
Discover the farmers markets, that’s where the best cheeses, olives, fruits and vegetables are. And they are dirt cheap and so much tastier.
Don’t make this foreign German and Italian supermarket chains richer, help that local farmer survive.

Thank you for your channel Abigail. Your informative vlog about not damaging Albanian economy by over-paying is very helpful. My husband and I just retired and are coming to Tirana in January. We look forward to really spending time touring around Albania and the surrounding countries and the EU. We aren't interested in living in a palace as our budget is fixed. Just a regular life amongst friendly people.

There is no visa process. By having a US passport, qualifies you for a one year visa free stay. If you want another year, you'll have to leave Albania for 90 days. Upon returning to Albania after your 90 day exit, you'll have another visa free year.

I would love to be able to navigate back-and-forth for different months at a time between the states and whatever country I decide to visit. I would love to hear about creating income that can sustain me while living abroad. I’m actually looking to career pivot so that I am able to bring my work with me wherever I go as long as there is stable internet.
