    This is hilarious stuff! We always argued how everyone's clothes always stayed clean with bright colors for years and YEARS as castaways on a deserted island. Even if you say everyone brought extra sets of clothes with them, why would anybody bring loads of spare clothing for a mere *"Three Hour Tour?"* It's clear there wasn't much thought put into this stuff but just the same I'll always love this show and all the fond memories of a much simpler time in history. Thank you for posting this. This is great :)

    I felt that the castaways best chance of leaving the island was when they were at the mad scientist's home. The place was creepy but there was food and shelter until the professor and skipper could renovate the doctors boat and then they could sail for civilization. The home had materials for the boat renovations. They were still far from home but a rebuilt sturdy boat would get them there.

    I'm former Navy, but I take serious umbrage at your flippant comment towards the United States Coast Guard during WWII. During the war, the Coast Guard manned more than 350 naval ships, including 76 LSTs, 21 cargo and attack cargo vessels, 75 frigates and 31 transports. They also manned more than 800 cutters and nearly 300 ships for the army (not to mention thousands of amphibious assault craft). Their members served honorably and one of them was even posthumously awarded the *Medal of Honor -- Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro,* who daringly positioned his craft between the Japanese and 500 men of the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines as they were being evacuated from Guadalcanal. As the last man was climbing aboard the LCMs and LCVPs, Munro's own LCVP was struck by the Japanese, killing him. But his distraction had served its purpose and the boats used for the evacuation were now all safely away.

      Don't forget that the Army had ships and had a whole lot of amphibious landings, therefor the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines are all the same. The Army Air Corp had more planes that the U.S. Air Force had during WWII. (yes I know).

      @@armymobilityofficer9099 -- For the future... if you're going to attempt to troll someone, it helps if you can consistently cite true facts (something in which you personally seem to be lacking), as for the rest of your commentary... this is exactly the type of elementary school bullshit one could expect from the kind of person who regularly enjoys denigrating an entire branch of the United States Military. It's rather obvious that you're attempting to bait me into saying something negative about the Army or the Marines in order to paint me as a hypocrite, due to my previous statements in defense of the U.S. Coast Guard. It's woefully pathetic that you would deign to denigrate a branch of the U.S. military for the sole purpose of accomplishing that goal in order to win _"internet points."_ However, the fact that you have, immediately calls into question your username of _"Army... Officer"._ I say this because, someone who would stoop to the level you just have, most certainly does not comport with the military bearing of a U.S. Army Officer.
      As it happens (because I'm old), I've had many run-ins with *Stolen Valor* types on comment boards such as these. Not only do I absolutely *NOT* believe you were ever an officer in one of the branches of the United States Military, I have a strong suspicion that you've never served a single day in *ANY* branch of the U.S. military. Either that or you _"couldn't cut it"_ and you were separated (probably even before graduating from boot camp). If perchance you somehow did serve in the U.S. Army (beyond boot camp)... I'm certain that - if the Army read the denigrating comments you've made so far about an entire branch of the United States Military - they'd be extraordinarily ashamed of the fact that you ever did serve with them. The U.S. Army's service members serve with exceptional honor and distinction...... and you, sir... do not appear to live up to that example.

    The episode with the Russian cosmonauts drinking the vodka wasn't a goof. It was part of the joke. After finishing the bottle that had the real vodka, the Russian demands that the castaways give them their bottle. They hesitate because they are worried that the Russian is going to drink it and realize the ruse. But instead of realizing it was water, he passed out like he had finally had too much. It wouldn't have cost much to make a correct hut "segue" shot - but the more I think of it, with all of the comments about a limited budget, a lot of the money had to go to pay the cast since most of them were veteran performers who couldn't have been gotten cheap. Thanks for watching.

    I think I found another oops. In Episode 1 of Season 1, Ginger crawls out of a cave/trap around 23:37, and the Skipper asks if she's hurt. Ginger replies, "no I'm alright, but look at my dress, the only dress I have!" Then she shows a rip down the side of the dress. In later episodes she's shown wearing more dresses. Ooops!

      The girls somehow managed to piece together perfectly fitting clothes from "recycled" fabric, though I suspect that the thread holding all those new clothes together was hard to come by.
      What is truly odd is that Gilligan himself only seemed to have 1 shirt and 1 pair of trousers....but in 4 years, on a tropical island no less, NOTHING ever wore out/got tattered.

      @Nume Moon Of course, as written, Ginger originally did only have one gown, with a supplementary dress made from Gilligan's duffel bag. Then as the show's budget grew, and colour made its entrance in time for the second season, she (and Mary Anne and Mrs Howell) were outfitted with more changes of clothing. This is the LOGICAL explanation, but naturally 'Gilligan's Island' is far from logical!

    I must say, I love Gilligan's Island. I even recently bought the complete series in HD from VUDU. But what is more upsetting is the fact that I am a forensic scientist and rely on my observation skills...and yet, I think, if I am not mistaken, the only one I saw before was the tube up Mary Ann's sleeve when Gilligan was invisible. So, since I am good professionally at what I do...I am going to chalk my lack of observation up to being really entertained when I watch the show and not even realizing the exterior hut changes. Now, going to watch them tonight and see how bad it is! :-) Thanks for the video. It was fun!

      Actually, it IS upside down. If it was simply reversed, the top would still be the top, and the bottom would still be the bottom. Not the case here. If it were reversed, the open side of the 3 would be on the right side, not the left; and the straight edge of the 3 would be on the top, not the bottom.

    Another possible goof regarding the "Don't Bug the Mosquitos" episode when the male castaways form their own rock group called The Gnats: The Professor is playing his guitar right handed, just like the Skipper & Mr. Howell are doing. The reason I say that is Russell Johnson in real life was left handed - in many episodes this is reflected by the Professor writing and doing skilled work using his left hand. Of course, he might have been ambidextrous & displayed it just then (if he played left handed the band might have sounded a little less awful than it did on the episode, lol).

The point I make after the third season video demonstrates that a show can be very popular if people like the cast, regardless of some inconsistencies or production sloppiness. I suppose what is unique about the show is that there are so many goofs. I can't think of any other show with so many goofs, errors, or oddities.

      I personally think the hut switcharoo was intended as a running visual gag on the show. It wasn't really important and it added to the insanity of the show's premise anyway. Noticed something in the episode where May Ann thinks she's Ginger. She supposed to be wearing Ginger's clothes but they're very obviously different. The "beaded beige" that Ginger always wears is quite different when Mary Ann wears it. Same with the one should, leopard dress. Ginger's leopard print has orange and a large pattern. When Mary Ann wears it it's different.

    I don’t think the séance goof you mentioned with Professor not being covered by the blanket or sheet, or whatever on the table is actually so because if you notice in the shot previous to that the table is sitting on a stage the professor isn’t under the table he’s under the stage therefore, you would not notice the tablecloth in front of him or legs by him he’s under all of that

    Sherwood Schwartz the creator of Gilligan’s Island said that he DIDN’T have a staff of writers..which explains WHY their were contradictory storylines in the show...but Sherwood explained on season two DVD introduction that bringing in freelance writers kept the storylines “fresh” instead of hiring staff writers that would have sameness of the jokes and scenes.

      Thanks for the info. Still, I can't help but wonder why the actors didn't notice something - like Lovey saying after two seasons of French expressions, that she doesn't speak French. One would think she would have said "Wait, a minute! I'm supposed to say I don't speak French? I've been speaking French phrases for two seasons." Oh, well.

The Skipper spoke Caribbean from the Islands..and Lovey SAID that SHE SPOKE FRENCH. I think it was when they found the telephone wires and the were trying to reach civilization.

    Missed several with the lack of oranges episode. It would take at least a week just for orange seeds to sprout and another 5 years or more before even growing the first fruit. Also, the torches that are supposed to keep the seeds warm are far too high from the ground to do so. Also, why does everyone want to wear sweaters and long sleeves on a tropical island?

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  8 лет назад

      It is arguable that the image of the beached boat is not in the lagoon. The boat pictured is highly pitched at the bow meaning there is s serious slope going downward towards the water. The beach around the lagoon is perfectly flat. They probably placed the pictured boat somewhere else.

    • @randallbrooks5787
      @randallbrooks5787 8 лет назад +2

      Huh? lol. No, the first season had the beached boat on the actual beach side of the island, whereas the second season not only had a different boat, but had it now beached on the lagoon side of the island. Oh, and I just noticed lately watching some recent re-runs that season three had the boat beached on the lagoon side of the island as well, but at a different angle. Just one of life's mysteries, I guess, lol.

    When viewed from the left side, the streaks run - right to left? When viewed from the front, the streaks should which way?

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  9 лет назад +1

      +Beyond Ken - Yes, the streaks should run the way they are shown, but you are missing the point, The changing pattern shows the prop mine had been rotated 90degrees when the professor is behind it, and then rotated to what was the back of the mine when Gilligan and Mr. Howell are stuck to it. There is nothing in the scene that requires the prop mine to be rotated, so why is it rotated? It is like the actors or the prop department people either messed with the mine unnecessarily, or maybe the shooting occurred over a few days where the prop was moved off stage and into storage, and then returned to the stage in a different orientation. Imagine a scene in a movie where there is a vase on a table with mostly purple flowers on the right near the male lead, and white flowers on the left near the leading lady, with a red bloom barely visible in the rear of the bouquet. The scene shifts to the lady and suddenly the purple flowers are pointing in her direction, but when the scene finishes and the camera pulls back, the big red flower is front and center. It seems Gilligan's Island didn't bother hiring someone to maintain continuity between shots and scenes.

    One questionable observation about the Howell's being remarried;
    Mrs. Howell would likely have been a debutante. If so, she MAY NOT have been "known" to fashionable society as 'Ms. Wentworth' UNTIL she was at least 16 (or older), so her character COULD BE 55 or older in that scene if we allow for this debutante rule.
    Does this work?
    ~JSV

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  5 лет назад

      Miss Wentworth is her maiden name. Mr. Howell said she was Mrs. Howell longer than she was Miss Wentworth, but the differing years they claim to be married is between 20-22, which means she would have to be no more than very early forties when she was getting remarried to Thurston. One can be charitable and say she was only in her forties the way Jack Soo, who played Det. Nick Yemana on Barney Miller told Dietrich he was going to be 46 on his birthday when Jack was actually 60 at the time in real life. So it is possible that the show intended for Mrs. Howell to only be in her forties.
      BUT... in the episode where Howell thinks he has gone broke, the professor asks Mrs. Howell what did they do to help him during the depression when Howell lost most of his money and was just a single millionaire. Mrs. Howell said they took away his radio. BUT... the depression ended at the beginning of the second world war at least 25 years before GI. If Howell lost most of his money at the beginning of the depression, say around 1928-29, they would have been married at least almost 40 years. For her to be Miss Wentworth longer than she was Mrs. Howell, she would have to be at least 80 years old. In either case, 20-22 years before the mid 1960s places their marriage at the end of WW II "after" the depression had ended. I know some people can't understand the fun in these chats, but being a writer, I like to catch such goofs. Thanks for watching and replying.

    Most all jewelry and many vintage fishing rods and reels are made from non-ferrous metals....Gold, silver, in the fishing rod's instance it could have been made of brass to prevent corrosion. Non-ferrous metals are not magnetic.

    • @onestoptechnologies7305
      @onestoptechnologies7305 4 года назад

      Most jewelry(necklaces and rings), zippers, belt buckles are non-ferrous thus not magnetic, as well as, stainless steel, which if Gilligan had a "solid steel" necklace it would have been stainless because, in an ocean environment, any other steel would have corroded(rusted) incredibly fast, staining his skin and clothing.

    1.I wonder how many of the little details you noted (the jewelry in the episode with the mine for instance) could be seen by the viewers on the television sets available at the time. I'm sure the production team behind the program never thought Gilligan's Island would be released on high definition video 30 years or so later.
    2.With the '3 card' (I believe it was a three of clubs.) I have many decks of cards and on a number of them the '3' on the bottom is upside down for some reason. That's actually pretty normal.
    Other than those, I like the other bloopers.

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  8 лет назад

      It's a point, though I would find it hard to believe they would have approached each episode with the idea that they didn't have to be accurate because most people wouldn't see details on the screen. The whole purpose of TV is to induce the viewer to see exactly what the producers want them to see.

    • @adamt5164
      @adamt5164 8 лет назад

      David Caldarola Sure, but to me it's a question of having a limited budget and taking the time to deal with these things (time is money) when, at that time, they weren't really practical concerns for the producers.

    • @davidcaldarola5188
      @davidcaldarola5188  8 лет назад

      Makes sense, Adam, but one needs to compare GI with any other TV show. No other show has so many errors.

    • @adamt5164
      @adamt5164 8 лет назад

      Ah, I was wondering about that, but I've read so many of these sorts of errors with even high budget movies that I just assumed that television shows at the same had roughly the same number of errors as Gilligan's Island.
      That does put a different perspective on it.
      The episode where the Professor thought the island was sinking aired on ME TV last night. (The island was sinking not the water was rising.) Is it even possible for an island of that size to sink? The Professor said the island would sink in 6 days, I assume it's not possible for an island of that size to sink in 6 years or even 60 years.
      Also, at the end of the episode the Professor and The Skipper hold Gilligan responsible for using the Professor's stick and moving it out further making it seem to the Professor like the island was sinking. But, wasn't the Professor also responsible for not telling Gilligan what he was using the stick for and to not move it? How was Gilligan supposed to know that was The Professor's stick?
      Also, they make Gilligan clean up the mess by himself, but they're on an island and the mess was on the highest point on that island, why did it even need to be cleaned up?

    • @adamt5164
      @adamt5164 8 лет назад

      My second point is just me taking a comedy program seriously, and the real point of the Skipper and the Professor telling Gilligan he'd have to clean up the mess by himself was just a set up for some jokes, but I am serious about my first point.
      A lot of kids watch Gilligan's Island and I don't think it was right for the Professor to get angry with Gilligan and not acknowledge his own responsibility in the matter for failing to communicate with Gilligan.
