Might be hard at the beginning. But honestly, practicing (if done right) can become addictive if you realize how much progress you are making, how many things you'll be able to do that you never thought you could. Good luck
I've been leaving this same comment on pretty much every one of his videos I watch for a year now. The reason being that I'm not so well off financially, and it's the best way I know how to support his work for the time being.
Could you talk about your own "musical journey"? As in like how old you were when you reached certain musical milestones, e.g. how good you were at music theory when you started college, how long had you been playing guitar until learning by ear became easy etc, I feel like this would be really useful to know Much love, happy new year!
my resolution for next year is to finish the Industrial metal album I started last year with the aim of having it at least complete by my girlfriends birthday in may... plenty of time to nail some crushing ideas
My resolution is to actually take lessons and practice... I've had guitars for years and like to dust them off and try to pay something, but it always ends up being the same songs over and over again because I only know like 3 songs and never practice or learn anything. I wanna improve to learn more and more things that will eventually help me make my own songs! Happy holidays and I hope you have great and successful 2018!
I’m so stoked for 2018 I have tons of new projects that will be coming out, and I feel like I have a nice jump start into my 30s. I crushed a lot of goals this year so time to raise the bar! Thank you SG for all your content throughout the year. It definitely gets me motivated to grab my axe and express my soul!
I'd personally say you're already half way there... the fact you want to start progressing is half the battle.. don't give up try some new songs, you'll probably not even notice some of the subtle improvements you've made... but most important of all?? don't give up!
back in 2013 i used to follow him on instagram but i closed that account n lost him. he used to make very cool 15sec music videos. such a talented guy! I'm glad i finally found him on youtube and he is already a successful youtuber! keep up the good works!
Great video Sensei! Thank you for sharing so many great tips this year. You've helped me stay interested in music creation and motivated for the year ahead.
Here's one resolution I've come up with: Rethinking my big goals I have a dream of performing at a convention in Burlingame CA. I went there in this year (2017), and it was the greatest experience of my life. I am more hungry than ever to do this performance. Here's the problem: I've only had about a year's worth of playing experience with not a single song written and no band mates to speak of. Sure I'm inexperienced and not very well prepared now, but I can be. If you have a goal and/or dream, go for it. It will take time, but everyday you strive for it, it'll bring a light more light into your life.
I'm starting to apply my knowledge into writing songs. Learning theory but not applying it much. Besides that improving my technical ability actually using a metronome to measure my progress and learning piano again
my resolutions: spend less on guitar pedals. fully recover from RSI (and prevent it from happening again, ever). get that practicing goin, both on guitar and mandolin, so that i become a decent instrumentalist eventually. write and record more. and probably all of what you said in the video.
I seriously need to stop buying guitars, and pedals, and focus on the ones I have to make something awesome! Waiting for my copy of Zen Guitar to arrive, I'm hoping to gain some insight from it once I've had a chance to read it a little. Thanks SG, I hope you're having an awesome holiday season!!!
Great video samurai, definitely my biggest resolution is to get better at writing my own songs and maybe this 2018 finally compose a complete decent song (with lyrics, good instrumentals, etc)
Hi, bass player here... I actually find it helpful to record practice sessions and listen to them, it helps me reflect on what I need to work on and what I'm already doing fine with.
I'll be working on understanding and creating the blues this year. I've grown bored with "metal" lately and want to do something with more complex emotion and craft. I don't mean to say all metal etc. is devoid of them but I feel more when looking into vintage blues. I welcome any constructive criticism and/or advice, recommendations etc... All the best to all of you in this new year and beyond! And of course, A Gigantic Thanks to SamuraiGuitarist for all the Wisdom, Motivation, Zen and Inspiration!!! I hope the future brings you peace and satisfaction! 🙏🏻
My goal is to become a real guitar player. I'm a bassist and I know the basics on guitar (open chords, bar chords, power chords, penta scale...) but I'm still a bassist who play guitar (I don't know if my point is clear :/ ) so I need work to be what I want to be.
My resolution is simple. I need to play more. Balancing a job with odd hours and maintaining a home life has left me looking at my guitars more than I play them. I am going to make time to play more often to break out of the rut I've been stuck in for much of this year.
My goal is to record some of the songs I've recorded. I've been writing for years and held back due to lack of confidence. I want to feel that accomplishment.
i learned how to play beethoven's "ode to joy" melody relying on my audial memory, because i'm probably over familiar with it, lol... my new years resolution, to learn an entire soad album maybe, getting there. :P
Hey samurai, been following your channel since about 30k subs, just wanted to say that I love the content and im glad to see how much your channel has grown. Happy holidays!
Hello! I’ve been playing guitar for a couple months now without lessons and I have a question, I was looking at the chord progression for little Wing by Jimi Hendrix and I wanted to know if there was a trick to get from the E minor chord the the G major chord quickly since the G chord is barred on the third fret. I always have to pause for a second to get my fingers placed correctly.
TinFoil TV Listen to everything, and then what you steal from it, based on taste, is your sound. The next major milestone after that is having a good enough ear to play what you hear. Along the way, theory will give substance and practical application to what you steal. Start out with a free PDF of tonal harmony or something.
I Would add 2 things 1. Stay healthy with more stretching and more relaxed playing 2.write more Songs, instead of collecting ideas Happy holidays everyone!
Never use tabs.. usually learn stuff by ear or by watching old performances, or even just looking up the chords and learning the rest by ear. Ears are great
2018 Resolution :
Sit down and actually practice the guitar instead of playing enter sandman again and again
Might be hard at the beginning. But honestly, practicing (if done right) can become addictive if you realize how much progress you are making, how many things you'll be able to do that you never thought you could. Good luck
i agree, like how a piece that you absolutely struggled becomes an easy song. :)
2018 resolution “be happy with the guitars I have”.. this is gonna be a hard one.
december onthedate nearly impossible. Good luck!
True
I hear that Samuraiguitarist guy is a pretty cool dude.
John The Cat you heard correctly
he gave me idea of using to paraphrase from myself "i fake punk riffs" as a song title as a quote from me, but i didn't think it was a song title. :P
I've been leaving this same comment on pretty much every one of his videos I watch for a year now. The reason being that I'm not so well off financially, and it's the best way I know how to support his work for the time being.

Me, someone who plays guitar for almost 2 years now but hasn't progressed in almost half a year, I want to try and start progressing again.
I'd personally say you're already half way there... the fact you want to start progressing is half the battle.. don't give up try some new songs, you'll probably not even notice some of the subtle improvements you've made... but most important of all?? don't give up!

Samurai guitarist listened Jordan Peterson at the h3 podcast. 3 of my favourite content creators melting on one sentence.

My resolution is to write and record at least one full song. I’ve finally got an interface and can hopefully turn a dream into a reality.
