My Excal, as well as my White's have both become ridiculously chatty, and I had no idea what to do, since I live outside the US or Australia... Anyway, this is very helpful. Thanks again!!!

Heeeet Joe How are you? thanks for your help with the excal wires, now I have another problem lol. My excal just won´t turn on, the battery is fully charged. Do you think this could be the potentimeter too? Thanks in advance
Not having it in hand is a tough call. Not sure if this will help and this is what I do. I use a audiosears 2463 speaker and hold it near the coil. That will tell me if the machine is putting out a send signal. You can hear the send signal from the coil. If not then you have to break the machine down and check the power at the blue and brown wires..while disconnected from the board. That will tell you if your getting power to the board. Once the blue and brown are reconnected to the board, check the board for hot spots. Area's that maybe warm...Next I would make sure the On/off pot is connected to the board. sometimes they break loose at the solder points. After that it becomes very involved in tracking down the problem, which with out the proper equipment will be a problem. I would do the above then maybe if not working send it off to Minelabs In PA...Keith does excellent work and very quick. Good Luck!

Now I need to replace the coil cable, do you think any cable (with the same number of threads) will work? or its a special cable? do you know about it? Thank for the support man
Hi Joe, I bought an old sword model a while back, which seems to have chattering and it is impossible to set the threshold properly. I seem to get that quacking and jumping sound, which seems all to common. I cannot get a steady threshold like in your video at all, although the machine definitely picks up coins when the threshold is switch is set low. I do not take this machine in the water, or use it in the wet at all. I am using 8 x 1.5v new duracell AA's to power it. The coil cable housing does have quite a few cracks, but is dry. I guess my question is: Does it seem that the threshold pot may need replacing on my machine. I am in the UK and have followed your link to find it on Digikey. I am quite confident with my soldering, but don't wish to take it apart, unless it is required. Many thanks, Adrian (great video by the way).

I have my Excalibur II and do not know what happened battery was completed and uploaded for 14 hours, and again turn the excalibur II, the audio is very low and almost audible to detect any metal listening very low tone, I would like to ask your opinion, your help to see that the problem may have my detector, I am fond of his videos, thanks to them I have learned from you.
My Excalibur won't come out of pinpoint, do they make a pot for the pinpoint/discriminate switch? It's done this since it was new and now it does it more frequently and just goes into pinpoint on it's own, and then eventually will come back out of pinpoint on it's own, or maybe with me messing with the control knobs. 😳
Sorry for the delay, on vacation. I have a place in France to get the original. If you have a email I can send that to you. Also I have the non-stock replace number but you have to make a few modifications to the shaft, extend 2mm.

I took the Excalibur apart and checked the pinpoint/ discriminate potentiometer with a multimeter and it read good. continuity would make and break when turning the switch between the two. So it might not be the pot switch. Have you ever had one to do this where it just goes in and out of pinpoint on it's own without touching the knob? I'm thinking about touching up the solder joint on the pot switch. Any input would be helpful. Thanks by the way, you might remember me as OUTATIME 😃 on the MD forums

Good idea to check the solder contacts, I have had them where there was a bad connection. Also had a disc pot that was bad, the machine would not pick up gold in disc. Changed pot and worked fine. The pot tested fine but some how got turned to far and had got out of adjustment.

Hi Joe, just noticed you said it's a 3mm wrench for the potentiometer nut, actually, it's a 7mm I just measured it.

@ The battery cables always break due to the way they are made up in the factory.
@ of course any 4 core cable will work but waterproofing the splice is the difficult part

adrian crawford-mckellar Sorry, that should say "coil cable sheathing", not housing.
@@adriancrawford-mckellar122 sounds like you need a new coil, if the outside sheathing is cracked you can bet that the inside sheathing is also.

Sorry no more repairs but a guess might be the coil if there is no water in the control pod..
Joe hernan you have had a leak in the headphone cord, replace the headphones with the gray ghost amphibians will fix the problem.

At a guess your headphones are bad
