- In this video, we’re going over 5 American Express credit card tips that will give you more value for any of your Amex credit cards. These tips work for popular credit cards like the Amex Gold card, the Amex Platinum card, as well as many more. We’ll go over things like the Amex triple credit limit increase, how to get higher welcome bonuses, and how to earn more Membership Rewards points.
American Express has been one of my favorite credit card issuers over the past few years because they offer a lot of value and many great credit card benefits. I frequently use my Amex Gold card for food and my Amex Platinum card for travel, so I’m always learning new ways to maximize what these American Express credit cards can give me. All 5 of the Amex tips in this video are super easy to implement, so hopefully they will be useful for anyone that’s watching this!

I actually got a 150k offer for the Platinum and got approved. At first it was 125k, i started the application process and filled out all the necessary questions, but before I submitted I backed out and refreshed home page. (Now What I did was by accident, mainly because I was afraid to get rejected) When I refreshed the page and checked for offers, it changed to 150k welcome bonus after spending $6k within 6months so I decided to just apply and got approved within seconds. Not sure if this will work on everyone, but its worth a shot if your looking into getting the Platinum or maybe itll work on gold as well. Just figured Id share this with everyone and hope it helps.

Great video, Daniel. Hopefully, AMEX members see this and start getting the extra value you highlighted here. I have to say, combining Rakuten with statement credit offers is a great way to maximize value. I have done this a few times already with both my AMEX Gold card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred card offers.

I just applied for the Amex gold last week and I got the 90k offer! I went to the Amex home page and filled out my information to see if I was prequalified. The link to the gold card application from there was advertising a 90k intro bonus.

Hey Daniel, AMEX is offering me 90k points for the Gold. Resy shows 75k with the $250 dining credit. Which do you think I should take? This will be mainly used for dining.
PSA: Amex is known to not honor sign up bonuses, I applied and got the 90k offer for the gold card but they’re only giving me 60k points. Super disappointed, feel like I got cheated but whatever. If you want to apply for an Amex with a sign up bonus make sure to call them and have a rep email you everything so you have proof.

Haha yeah I kind of miss the old setup too sometimes. But I had to constantly build and take apart my lighting and camera equipment in my living room for every video - now I just keep it setup up in my office room which is nice haha.

I just downgraded my skymiles reserve. Platinum gets you into both lounges anyway and gold has better categories.

Debating if I should get the Delta Amex card but the benefits (lounge access) is the same with my AMEX Platinum card, so not sure if it’s worth opening one.
The only advantage you the Delta reserve is that you get a annual Companion certificate, free checked bags and possible upgrades
Yeah could be good if you fly Delta mostly, but varies from person to person how much they would use a single airline card like that. But its definitely a great option!

Generally 7 years is a “Lifetime” for Amex from datapoints I have seen.

Congrats on the new card Robert! And yeah, larger one-time purchases always help to reach those minimum spend requirement quicker. As long as your buying things that you would normally spend money on anyway and not just overspending to reach the bonus, then it's all free value!

Wise advice, Daniel. Thanks! Your last point about the Schwab Platinum makes me wonder why more people don’t get that card, instead of the vanilla version. BTW - I’ve been enjoying the combination of the Schwab Platinum paired with the Amex Gold (my grocery and dining card). Hope all is well.
It's probably because the Vanilla usually has a larger sign up bonus then the Schwab. Also, unless you dig into the Amex site, you will not see the Schwab, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Platinum etc... So some people probably don't even know these cards exist Unless they have accounts at those brokerages. I have the Vanilla and Schwab cards but I only got the Vanilla for the sign up bonus and will cancel next year

hey daniel, if i got job offer after college making 6 figures, is it worth to take it if it means i have to live in nyc? financially speaking, because the rent there is so high. i do love the city otherwise however
I think it all depends on the lifestyle that you're willing to live in terms of living with roommates in the city or instead commuting from outside the city because rent would be much cheaper that way. And also things like groceries and going out to restaurants and a lot of other living expenses are just going to be more expensive too. A $100k salary in NYC might be more like a $60k salary is my city of Philadelphia just because of cost of living is so much higher in NYC - but I guess the only way to find out is to live there and then you could always adjust your job/living situation after a year

This may sound like a dumb question.
I already have the Amex Blue Everyday like 3 months ago .. I want to apply for the Gold Card . Question is. Should I apply while I'm logged in to my account so that way I don't get a Hard inquiry (At this date their offer is 60,000 points).
Or is not necessarily to be logged in? (This way I'm in a incognito mode and their offer is 75,000 points) Or either way is just going to be a Soft poll since I'm already in there system? Thanks. Keep it up.
I have been successfully using my Blue Cash Everyday AMEX from 6 months now, basically a new user in the AMEX , how long do you think will happen before they offer me a Platinum Card or at least the Green Charge card ??

Right now you can get 125K for the platinum and 90K for the gold just through the website. However, the resy option he mentioned here may yield more points if you spend a lot on restaurants. The resy option for the platinum right now is 100K points + 10x points for restaurants for up to $25K of purchases. That means if you spent greater than ~$2,800 in six months on restaurants, you would yield more points than the 125K offer (you normally earn 1x points, so you are bonusing 9x points over the standard offer).
I have Amex air miles platinum card. I wanted to upgrade to cobalt, however Amex said they want to do a credit check for cobalt as a new application. Although my score is good, but I don’t want to run a credit check for cobalt. Any advice, how can i upgrade to cobalt without credit check.

Cardpointers seems cool, but there's a bunch of personal data sharing that happens between AMEX and the offer company when you sign up and it seems irresponsible to send it to literally all the companies offering promotions via amex. You never know where your personal info is going to end up in.
Rakuten used to be Ebates which has been around since the 90's. I've been with them since day 1 and have gotten several hundred dollars back. Their Rakuten credit card however, is closing down which is a shame as if you used it with your cash back you got an extra 3% too.
Can one product change to Charles Schwab from standard AMEX p?
when applying for the amex plat Charles version, are we still eligible for that sign up bonus if we already carry the vanilla plat?

The one a lifetime offer is actually one each 7 years, something they don't mention.
Is the welcome bonus once per card or once per amex account?
Once per card in your lifetime, not once per lifetime for your entire account. So you can get one bonus for each Amex card!

They are not letting you get an increase at 61 days now it’s 6 months
