That’s because it reminded him all his old memories when he was young and practiced with the same plane as Porco on the Lake of Como, he even showed me one rusty piece of plane he kept in his basement and said that “Marco has a great seaplane but mine was better!” We laughed so much, I love him

When I was a kid, I used to play with a little silver plane my italian grandpa brought back from work and exposed in the entrance of his apartment. I was so moved when I saw this movie, I was feeling shivers running down my spine. When I see the black and white images at the end of the film, it makes me think of the old pictures of my grandpa where he is with the other workers of his company.
I've seen this movie when I was 4. I love planes because of this movie. I can't see a plane without think about this movie. I cry if i listen this music. So I think I can understand you and I think I can say that it's the beautifulest movie i've seen. Peace on you and your grandpa.

Not only did I become a Ghibli fan when I saw this work, but there were many people who fell in love with a man named Porco Rosso. Favorite movie from Ghibli Studio. This movie is definitely a lot different from other movies in the studio because Gina and Proco Rosso are very deep in its characters. They have an unexplainable charm that really makes me rewatch this movie over and over again. It's like a bottle of liquor, which has stronger flavor the longer it shelves.

I just saw this movie in a theater as part of Giblifest 2023. At the conclusion of the film the audience APPLAUDED. That is the first time I have seen this happen in movie theater in years. Miyazaki is a a genius. This film is another masterpiece.

Many people believe Joe Hisaishi arranged/wrote this piece, but it was actually a pre-existing song by the singer, Tokiko Kato, written and composed by her in 1987. While Hisaishi composed the background music of the movie, the person who arranged the ending theme you hear in the 1992 movie is Kanno Yoko and Junichiro Ohkuchi for the piano.

I grew up on Ghibli Studio animations, that was the only part In my childhood I honestly cannot forget...From Porco Rosso, Spirited away, My neighbour Totoro etc etc
I regret not going to see this in theaters during the 2023 Ghibli Fest. Like other Ghibli movies (at least the small few I've seen), this song seems to evoke a deep nostalgia and longing...for people, places and times I never even knew in reality. I think Hisashi and Miyazaki have a very unique gift in their ability to stir those kinds of emotions.
I just watched this, and something hits me. This movie conduct lot of childish characters, but the story itself is different. It hits me so deep, It shows me what gentleman are all about. Freedom, how to live, how to treat a woman, perseverance, intuition, love, compassion, patience, and more.
This tune makes me feels like suffocating.. so many noble lives that will be forgotten down the long history of time. Each and everyone of us, every glory every sorrow will be gone, as our time passes, life goes on.

First of all, I love this song so much. These lyrics make sense for the story of the movie. But I can't help but imagine how extream the time of her youth was. This is just my thought from what I read from Wikipedia and some other articles. This song was written from her experience with the Student Activism in the late 1960s in Japan when many students fought against their universities seeking their rights. She was one of the students who involved with demos with a hopeful ideal for their future. One incident triggered and spread to other universities and became extream. The sad thing was that some of those incidents ended up resorting to the violence causing a number of casualties including students with bright futures. That's why I believe, she wrote that nobody can say it was in vain because even if so, it's their memory of their youth fighting for the right thing. So, when I picture those realities while listening to this song, each of the sentences becomes so real and nostalgic trying to convey the virtue of a reckless pursuit for an ideal. I wholeheartedly wish she'd again sing this song somewhere in the future for us, especially young generations so we can learn what was missing in their ideal and the reason why they couldn't accomplish their dreams, as a storyteller and also as a witness of the time.
This is the kind of song that can really only be fully understood by the songwriter and the person their writing about. There's just so much unspoken emotion and context. Its perfect.

I was born in Italy and lived there for 27 years of my life, and while Porco Rosso is not my number 1 Ghibli movie, it plucks cords deep inside of me that no other movie can touch. Italy has changed so much since I was a kid, so many realities have disappeared because of economic and social struggles, and I have lost contact with a lot of people I knew. So many of my high school classmates are struggling to stay alive, all the dreams we had are now ash, and a lot of people are living day by day without knowing what tomorrow will bring. I decided to leave and live in another country, and I don't regret my decision at all, yet once in a while I wish I could step back to 1998 and be back on a beach in Sardinia, watching my uncle try to keep a box of cheap wine cold by throwing in the sea and eating ice cream with my mom and dad. But that time is gone, it's never coming back, and living with that knowledge is very difficult at times.

I don’t know why Porco Rosso and Pom Poko are considered the underrated movies. With me, all movies from Studio Ghibli includes the ost are beyond amazing. Every scenes got their own meaning and each characters are truly living there. I grew up watching his movies and now look back, I always thankful life to let me know Hayao sensei. Like other Ghibli movies (at least the small few I've seen), this song seems to evoke a deep nostalgia and longing...for people, places and times I never even knew in reality. I think Hisashi and Miyazaki have a very unique gift in their ability to stir those kinds of emotions.
I just watched this, and something hits me. This movie conduct lot of childish characters, but the story itself is different. It hits me so deep, It shows me what gentleman are all about. Freedom, how to live, how to treat a woman, perseverance, intuition, love, compassion, patience, and more.
Yes. It's a great movie.

First of all, I love this song so much. These lyrics make sense for the story of the movie. But I can't help but imagine how extream the time of her youth was. This is just my thought from what I read from Wikipedia and some other articles.
This song was written from her experience with the Student Activism in the late 1960s in Japan when many students fought against their universities seeking their rights. She was one of the students who involved with demos with a hopeful ideal for their future. One incident triggered and spread to other universities and became extream.
The sad thing was that some of those incidents ended up resorting to the violence causing a number of casualties including students with bright futures. That's why I believe, she wrote that nobody can say it was in vain because even if so, it's their memory of their youth fighting for the right thing.
So, when I picture those realities while listening to this song, each of the sentences becomes so real and nostalgic trying to convey the virtue of a reckless pursuit for an ideal. I wholeheartedly wish she'd again sing this song somewhere in the future for us, especially young generations so we can learn what was missing in their ideal and the reason why they couldn't accomplish their dreams, as a storyteller and also as a witness of the time.
This is the kind of song that can really only be fully understood by the songwriter and the person their writing about. There's just so much unspoken emotion and context. Its perfect.

I saw Porco Rosso in theaters, when it came out in France. Proper way to see and hear these masterpieces. I feel lucky they had a theater release. The emotions when the movie ends, and the song begins.......
Same with me. Saw it first on video, and then 1995 in France on the big screen. It was a quite memorable experience!
It returns to select theaters here in America this August! I am SO LUCKY! I'll get to experience this all over again on the big screen.

I was born in Italy and lived there for 27 years of my life, and while Porco Rosso is not my number 1 Ghibli movie, it plucks cords deep inside of me that no other movie can touch. Italy has changed so much since I was a kid, so many realities have disappeared because of economic and social struggles, and I have lost contact with a lot of people I knew. So many of my high school classmates are struggling to stay alive, all the dreams we had are now ash, and a lot of people are living day by day without knowing what tomorrow will bring. I decided to leave and live in another country, and I don't regret my decision at all, yet once in a while I wish I could step back to 1998 and be back on a beach in Sardinia, watching my uncle try to keep a box of cheap wine cold by throwing in the sea and eating ice cream with my mom and dad. But that time is gone, it's never coming back, and living with that knowledge is very difficult at times.

I don’t know why Porco Rosso and Pom Poko are considered the underrated movies. With me, all movies from Studio Ghibli includes the ost are beyond amazing. Every scenes got their own meaning and each characters are truly living there. I grew up watching his movies and now look back, I always thankful life to let me know Hayao sensei. His movies always stunned me no matter how many times I rewatch it
