Tbh the more you listen to Smoke Signals the more devastating you feel. This song about where she try to find joy, looking for someone and love in the center of sadness.
God her songs are soooo cathartic. I have depression at times and some darkness, and her songs are just so relatable and comforting. Reminds you that you're not alone.
Loved your reaction as always! Love both albums, but we can see Phoebe's evolution with the production on Punisher. Phoebe has a band "boygenius" with singer-songwriters Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. I think you should also react to their EP, it also has beautiful lyrics written and sung by the three of them
If you love Phoebe, I’d definitely give Julien Baker a listen!! Her debut ‘Sprained Ankle’ is a great place to start. It’s so incredibly personal and deals a lot with faith and depression and loss using a very minimalistic palette that puts the lyrics at the forefront, sort of similar to what Phoebe does with certain songs on sita.
The male voice is Conor oberst from bright eyes, but he has collaborated with phoebe in their band 'better oblivion community centre'. Their album is brilliant and their voices and lyricism combine so well together.
My goodness wow I'm way earlier than I intended to be! Anyways, I love not only Phoebe and her music, but I love love love your content as well. Watching your analysis videos has really gotten me interested in the world of poetry and literary analysis, in fact, I look forward to doing a ton more with it myself in the future and exploring my writing style. Thank you so much for everything you do, every video cheers me up and makes me feel like I'm listening to music with a friend(which unfortunately I don't get to do very often because of covid for one and also my friends refuse to listen to my music so yeah :( ) But so I have a suggestion for you to listen to if you haven't already, he's my absolute favorite artist and you seemed to thoroughly enjoy listening to and analyzing his music as much as I did my first time hearing it(and basically 24/7 at this point hehe). Hozier's older album entitled "Hozier" and maybe adding in a few of his singles like "Arsonist's Lullaby" and "The Parting Glass", listening to that album took me over the moon after hearing Take Me to Church so many times and I think you would really like it :) Finally, thank you again so much girl, stay safe out there! Much Love, ~Char~ (p.s. don't feel pressured into listening to anything, the videos your putting out right now are wonderful and I think on behalf of everyone who watches your videos I can say that everything you do is amazingggg, take your time love and don't fuss over trying to get loads of videos out just focus on doing the things you want to do
This comment made my day, and means a lot... thanks for sharing! 💛 i love listening the albums suggested by everyone, and this is what I’ve always done on my own so it is so nice when people appreciate it! I am definitely listening to Hozier’s debut album when I can! I cant wait!
scott street is about her drummer marshall vore (so is icu and first part of i know the end i believe) they are still very close and even wrote scott street and many other songs together. i love their friendship still :)
I've been looking out for this! I think Punisher is clearly the more sophisticated of the two. Lyrically, it's very elegant, subtle, and the production is really, really good. You can tell that Phoebe has been just honing and honing her craft. That being said, I absolutely adore some of her songs on Stranger in the Alps (Funeral and Georgia are favorites of mine). She's clearly always been very good at delivering emotional gut punches. Loving this video. ❤️
It’s not as rock heavy as her album you reacted to, and she said in an interview that it was her experimenting with fiction - many of the songs aren’t about her.
I think you might enjoy the album "Historian" by Lucy Dacus! She's in a band with Pheobe called Boygenius and has beautifully thought-out lyrics as well. The song "Nightshift" from that album is one of my favorite songs of all time!
I love phoebe. She is very specific about everything, but the specificity isn’t meant to be taken specifically much of the time. The vivid images she creates are made to connote an emotion just as much as they are to paint a picture.
I was filled with so much joy to see you post this. I absolutely love your videos. I get teary watching them because i feel like i get to experience the music for the first time again. Not sure if recommendations were made yet, but the album Pang by Caroline Polachek would be so amazing to watch you react to!!
i would love to see you react to bon iver or frank ocean! their lyricism as well as phoebe’s is something that really hits u where it hurts. For Emma Forever Ago or Blonde are albums u should check out
YESSSSSSS Also she’s said in interviews that she’s heavily influenced by Elliot Smith, that she lives a mile from where he lived and she’s friends with people who knew him and how he always felt close
Love your reactions so much. I feel like we latch on to similar instrumental and lyrical motifs so, if you haven't already heard them, I really feel like you'd really enjoy Noname's 'Telefone' album (very narrative/nostalgic/introspective and visual vocab, also just sounds incredible), and Told Slant's 'Going By' (quirky / mellow / indie-folk with wonderfully endearing lyrics and melodies. Their song Tsunami will make you cry in the best way.)
Opened up RUclips and saw this and said out loud “Oh, HELL yes!” People are reccing more Mitski and iirc you said the heavier rock influences on Puberty 2 weren’t your usual vibe - Be the Cowboy has less of that and is the most expansive sonically, Bury Me at Makeout Creek is v much ‘I’m angry and sad and gonna electric guitar at you about it’, Retired from Sad... has orchestral instrumentation going on and Lush is largely just her and a piano iirc. They’re all good, but the way Mitski experimented with doing fiction on Cowboy and the way it has such a variety (the hit single is a disco track) makes me think it’s a good one. Anyways, love your channel!
I’m a HUGE fan of this album omg can’t wait to watch the whole review. and pls react to more mitski! i recommend either bury me at makeout creek, be the cowboy, or retired from sad!
Please do Better Oblivion Community College or boygenius at some point. They’re both amazing Phoebe Bridger colab projects, the first with Connor Orburst where their song writing really develops and grows together, and the latter is an amazing collaboration with two other amazing contemporary musicians: Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus (both of whom you’d love too.)
you should listen to her band with lucy dacus and julien baker called boygenius!!! they have an EP out and are definitely one of the best thing happening in the music industry right now 😍
Such an incredible debut album for Phoebe. Love all your reactions, I am a huge lyrics person as well and love hearing other's perspectives on lyrics. You should react to Sara Bareilles' Amidst The Chaos. It a few years old now, but it has some of her absolute best writing IMO.
i love would you rather, it gets a bad rap bc of conor’s voice lmao but i have a connection with the lyrics. it’s about her brother, and just sort of an ode to him and their relationship, growing up together. “we have the same face” “when you touch down, i’ll be waving.” “we found our way out” etc.
I'm pretty sure smoke signals is about Marshall, the drummer in their band, as she's basically describing him; I don't like knowing personal things about artists I listen to, but I do listen to them talk about their music, and what I remember she's said about smoke signals is that it's a love song (soulmate imagery, I think), and that they used to be in a romantic relationship. Motion sickness, on the other hand, is about that specific abusive man you mentioned at the beginning. I love your videos, take care!
@@sherthetruth You're welcome. That song can lean towards darker interpretations without that context, otherwise, it really paints the picture of soulmates, which doesn't even have to be romantic, or in their case, remain romantic, to still keep its meaning. Graceland too is also a love song, although she didn't mention anybody in particular. I hope your channel continues to grow and that you keep enjoying new artists c: (Phoebe Bridgers' music related, I know a lot of what she's shared about lyrics and recording because her music has meant a lot to me, and I write poetry as well, so after I interpret my own way, I also like to know the process behind the work).
I love that you finally reacted to it, and your perspective from most songs and the album itself 🥺. Georgia is also my favorite song off them all, so count me in. The one I relate to the most though is Motion Sickness, and I hate it here so much. Regardless, have a great February, Sher!
motion sickness is so personal to me, i had a similar experience to phoebe and almost got groomed by a popular musician, the first two lyrics hurt every time
i would love to see you react to notes on a conditional form by the 1975! i think as a band their songwriting and lyrics are really strong and also phoebe sings on one of the songs on the album :)
I don't know if you takr requests but I'd really recommend Tamino. In terms of style, he's like Hozier's cousin and none of his songs are forgettable. If you don't want to do the whole album, I'd go for "Cigar", "Indigo Night", "Persephone", or "Habibi". He's absolutely fantastic and I'm sure it'd be a treat.
You should give the album “wildlife” by the band La dispute a try. the music is pretty harsh sounding but the lyrics are stories set music. Reading the lyrics are a must as you go, but it is really worth the listen.
Hiya! If you take suggestions with foreign songs with english translations I would love to see you react to this song Tere Naina. It has really poetic similies m.ruclips.net/video/LFTLpNumu3o/видео.html

Funeral might be one of my favorite songs of all time. That song just hits so different. So close to home.
Tbh the more you listen to Smoke Signals the more devastating you feel. This song about where she try to find joy, looking for someone and love in the center of sadness.
funeral means so much to me, especially since a friend of mine passed after mental health struggles recently
me too ... a kid a year younger than me. survivor's guilt is a bitch
God her songs are soooo cathartic. I have depression at times and some darkness, and her songs are just so relatable and comforting. Reminds you that you're not alone.
Funeral is one of the most relatable depression song I’ve ever heard.
Please do Bury me at makeout creak by Mitski!! The lyrics are sublime esp on last words of a shooting star
all of mitski pleaseeeee
