Ive always wanted to make it but i have no where near the capabilities as a chemist or the resources that you do. If you could try that would be really interesting! Im sure you dont really do fan requests but i dont know many with an audience that could pull it off in the first place. Anyway regardless, great content. • @Elusis1
      @Elusis1 2 года назад +2

      @@sreetips There are many examples of it being created, including battery companies that have been experimenting with transition metals. A man by the name of David Hudson, a cotton farmer tried to patent it. Monatomic gold is well documented to have been an extremely important part of the Egyptian Pharisees life, and a whole priesthood that created it. It is real and it can be made. The question is how. What i have been been able to find is that it is most likely made with a very strong base under heated conditions. If it were made in the Egyptian times then there are limited chemicals available, but one thing that seems very available is Sodium Hydroxide, maybe peroxide? Not sure, i dont have alot of chemical insight into how this reaction might occur but if you can figure it out that would be gigantic! It might even change things in grander ways than we might imagine. Please try, as you can see its not well documented, but i guess in some ways, that makes it the wild west lol I have watched your videos for a long time and while you wing it some times, your experience helps you through. Thats what is needed to break new ground.

    You can test that stuff you think is Iridium/Rhodium by attempting to melt it. If it refuses to melt as well as gold (and you should be able to tell easily with your experience) and doesn't burn, it has to be a PGM of some sort.
    Another thing you could test would be if it catalytically decomposes hydrogen peroxide on contact.

    I was thinking about that dark red-brown salt ... potentially hydrated rhodium trichloride. There are various forms with different properties depending on how many water molecules hydrate the salt. You'd have to heat the precipitate fairly gently to get rid of the water molecules till it's anhydrous, then presumably incinerate carefully to liberate the chlorine as Cl2 gas above about 800C. That would leave elemental Rh, but this is not my area of expertise - university was a LONG time ago.

    Hi, Sreetips! )
    First of all, I want to say that I enjoy you videos immensely and watch them almost religiously ))
    ..as well as to thank you for the effort of making them - for some reason I happen to derive an unexpected amount of pleasure from watching them, especially gold and PGM related ones )
    However, I do have a question I can find no answer to, namely: why do you go through the whole tedious inquartation, multiple nitric boils, filtering & SMB preciptiation process when refining carat gold?
    Why not simply dissolve everything with aqua regia, filter the solution & precipitate gold with copperas (since you say it precipitates "all the gold and nothing but the gold")?
    Seems to be much faster than doing all these multiple boils to extract silver you've inquarted scrap carat gold with, even with all the extra water & HCl rinsing of the precipitate you have to do when using copperas..
    I'm sure there's a good reason for you doing it the way you do, I'm just really curious as to why ))
    Also, while I've got your attention: I get why you use borax when melting gold, but why do you sometimes also add "a pinch" of potassium nitrate?
    What is it for?
    Keep up the good work, cheers! )))

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  2 года назад

      Two serious problems putting karat gold straight in AR. 1) it puts everything in solution and makes a very dirty solution that looks like used motor oil. 2) passivation - a thick crust of silver chloride forms on the gold and shields it from the acids. It won’t dissolve the gold until the passive layer of silver chloride is removed. Inquartation completely eliminates both problems. It’s one of the most valuable refining techniques that I’ve ever learned. Potassium nitrate adds extra oxygen and burns off impurities that tend to float to the top of the molten gold. Some of the gold burns away also.

Once the copper is out and I have nothing but iron in solution then I add sodium hydroxide to drop the metals as metal hydroxides. I filter the solids out and dry them best I can then throw them out. I add pH down to the filtrate to pH7 then add to the regular waste stream.

    What's the overall efficiency of producing silver crystal? Overall it's 100% as nothing is wasted but there is a process efficiency loss through electrolyte and slimes.

    • @aa1.5
      @aa1.5 2 года назад

      Thats why you should have a stock pot system in place to process your waste stream. You can recover all of your pm's this way. Although I think your question/thought process is; you will never get all of the silver that is put in back out as pure silver crystals and that is correct. Some silver will remain in the electrolyte and in the slimes but as long as you have that waste processing stream setup you can recover all of it back. Of course you may lose some to micro splatter, but that is neglegible.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  2 года назад

      I use 600 grams of pure silver in 3.5 liters of liquid for the electrolyte. I harvest about 1.5 kilos of pure silver crystal from that (electrolyte use) in about ten days. Some of the silver in the electrolyte plates out and it (the electrolyte) become depleted after a single use. I re-use the electrolyte for a second run but only after adding another 200 grams to the 3.5 liters of electrolyte to augment the silver nitrate concentration in the electrolyte for the second run. I also add small quantities of fresh electrolyte to compensate for dehydration. Maybe another 100g of silver nitrate over the ten days for both runs. So it take about 1000g to 1100g of pure silver for two ten-day runs of the silver cell. I harvest roughly (+/-) 3 kilos (3000 grams) of high purity silver crystal from both runs. This is not accounting for the impure silver shot that I feed into the anode filter basket. So, I put in 1 kilo of pure silver crystal for electrolyte and get out 3 kilos of high purity silver per two ten-day runs (twenty days total). One in, three out equals 2 kilos or one kilo per run. That’s a lot of ciphering, hope it helps.

    I understand you get silver crystals like those two when reducing the voltage in the silver cell to around 1.5 or 2 volts. Has anyone get those results or had a scenario like that? You would get short chunky crystals instead of larger/thinner ones.

      Cementing the precious metals on copper. It’s a refining term. I think it’s because the cement silver looks like wet cement.

      Hello, I include as much detail as possible in my videos. And unfortunately I don’t offer any training or tutoring services. When I first started I studied and took notes. But be advised, there’s no way to safely do these reactions without a fume hood. Trying hold your breath in the back yard when adding refining reagents just doesn’t work. Even if you approach from upwind, the fumes will still wrap around you, getting in your hair, eyes and in your clothing. After you turn and walk away ten paces, when take your gulp of air your lungs will get those fumes that linger around you. Once again, there’s no way to safely do these reactions without a fume hood the draw the dangerous fumes away from you. Hope this helps.

      I would never do any of this without a fume hood nor outdoors. I have a business loan approved for a substantial sum hence the want to purchase a full list of materials including a reliable fume hood brand. As well as a chemical suplier to obtain quality product at an afordable price.
      You just have somany hours of material to go through and to watch it all again is not a problem I was just hoping to save myself the time by offering to pay for an inventory list from someone who has been through it all and already done the trial and error.
      I understand that you doing it for a hobby and not offering tutoring seeing as the videos are just that.
      Maybe you would be willing to do a video to give the specific names of the flasks and beakers and every chemical and acid required for a successful refiner to possess.
      Regardless your decision on a video detailing those things or not. I still love everything you do and appreciate you for sharing what you have. I find you to be an inspiration to myself but I'm sure to many others as well.

      Try the goldrefiningforum.com there are professional refiners who will help you set up a refining operation from A to Z. I think aquillarefining does it. His user name on the forum is “Palladium”. They will come to your site and get you going for a fee. Unfortunately, I don’t offer such a service. This is my hobby. I’m not a professional refiner. Just love doing it and making videos.
