God Bless you Burt. May all the angels in heaven sing for you!!!
Wow! What a display of a very sophisticated talent. You've really created music at it's best Burt Bacharach. So thankful for giving music world something to remember you by. RIP Mr. Bacharach.
Thanks for the melodies. I was very sad to hear today of the passing of another true genius of music, Burt Bacharach. His striking syncopated rhythmic patterns unusual chord progressions, irregular phrasing, frequent modulation and odd and changing meters characterise Bacharach’s genius. Being not so strong vocally, short notes lead the way in most of his wonderful melodies. I say a little prayer, The look of love .“Do you know the way to San Jose?” Raindrops keep falling on my head and so on. RIP.
I watched this with my mother when it aired. i thought he was just so good looking. That first instrmental is, for me, the opitome of the smooth sound of the 70's!
I loved seeing Burt composing with the orchestra "Nikki". They used that piece for the intro music for movies of the week on American television too - very sentimental about hearing it - especially now that I know how it was written. Seeing Vikki Carr tearing up while singing - Well, we all know how she feels. But watching Burt in concert barely able to contain himself at the piano because he's ENGRAINED in every note & part of every composition is always a sight to see too. He was that way all of his career. He became the orchestra. Absolutely amazing. 👑 As a teen in the late 60s early 70s & a hippy type into R&R & Motown etc I also had a mad crush on Burt Bacharach. 😁✌🌼🌻💟 Sammy Davis Jr was always an amazing talent across the board as well. This was a really fantastic television special with all this talent involved. Hosted by Burt Bacharach we not only get to hear his wonderful music but he also highlights two other extraordinary talents--Anthony Newley and Sammy Davis Jr. Newley was an accomplished songwriter, singer, and actor. Bacharach honors Newley with a 15 minute duet with Newley and his good friend Sammy Davis Jr. Together they performed classic Anthony Newley/Leslie Bricusse songs. Bacharach has said that Dionne Warwick was his favorite interpreter of his songs. For Newley it was Davis Jr. Their duet was great, and those songs should be rediscovered again. Most people dont know that Newley/Bricusse wrote the songs for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Candy Man, Pure Imagination) and the first Dr. Doolittle with Rex Harrison.

What a song: ‘Have you ever dreamed of a place… where the air you breathe is soft and clean And children play in fields of green And the sound of guns Doesn't pound in your ears…’ - written in the 1970s, about the 2020s?
I’ve been watching Burt all night and I’m overwhelmed with nostalgia. My dad had been a musician and was a great piano player and I was lucky enough to grow up with great music in the house. These Bacharach songs are just so evocative.
Simply magnificent. Bacharach’s orchestral artistry is mesmerising. I am a lifetime fan of his work, I learnt to sing on Bacharach and David songs. He’s a genius - hands down. And to have Newley and Davis on his special is just spectacular. And the moving performance from Vicki Carr. They just don’t make music or Tv like this anymore, which is a shame. Burt did such a nice vocal on Lost Horizon. And, what a mesmerizing, haunting melody to that song. Thank you for posting this video.
Hi Rick I agree and I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Kind regards Kenny
What a song: ‘Have you ever dreamed of a place… where the air you breathe is soft and clean
And children play in fields of green
And the sound of guns
Doesn't pound in your ears…’ - written in the 1970s, about the 2020s?
@@patricknicholson9407 HI Patrick I agree entirely. Kindest regards Kenny
A bygone era, I guess. How sad for all of us.
Thanks so much for sharing. 🙏🏾💜
It is a shame but what a legacy they left us all. Kind regards Kenny
@@denton115and now he’s gone… I cried when he passed… 😓 and tonight I will play this concert for about the 30th time. Yes, he left us a beautiful legacy. All the best to you too.x
@@jella-ruth Hi it’s amazing how much talent is in this one show, led by the master of melody. There is no one around today that has the talent of any of these Artists, which is why they will live forever. Kindest regards Kenny. x
What a fantastic show.Sammy Davis pure class & Anthony newley was a class act too, their voices gelled together perfectly & the affection they had for each other shines through. All these years later & we're still watching & marvelling in their fantastic talent.Pure class which I'm afraid to say we'll never see the likes of again.
Hi John I agree with every word. I once played Tony a rare outtake of Sammy, as it finished I looked at Tony and he was in tears, and simple said “What a great talent his was” which highlights your phrase “The affection they had for each other.” We will never see such talent again but we are all thankful for the legacy they left us. Kind regards Kenny
Sammy smoking at the piano, right in Burts face! We thought nothing of that back in the day, lol.
Hi Nancy and also was the music. Kind regards Kenny
And of course Anrhony Newley and Sammy Davis 🎶 singing gives me "goosebumps." What brilliant talent.
Burt's song and his piano and his signing were so moving and my thoughts of his mortality brought me to tears, but his music will live as long as people play and sing his songs.
dude, I cry just about every time I listen to Dionne and Burt....trying again this morning to understand why....nastalgia, joy of experiencing such talent,....? still listening.....singing....wondering....
It’s just when the music touches you. kind regards Kenny
Simply unbeatable ❤ a true legend, a composer that the musicians/singers in the business today will loose out! RIP truly missed 🙏
Hi I agree, but what a legecy he left us all. Kind regards Kenny
Burt's music was pure mush, but no one did it better.

Woo-hoo! Love this! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That 2-level stage looks familiar. From another musical special. Anyway, Burt and Sammy are exceptional talents. Two of my favs.
He was a brilliant very likable and profound influence on the soundtrack, moods, and imagery of all of our lives. His influence on our musical landscape cannot be overstated. Cheers and Godspeed sir.
Vicki Carr has a beautiful voice
