I'll come clean; usually when I make compilations of these board games I like to show the ups and downs and the flow of the game...however this time I had no idea what was happening ever, so instead I've tried to represent the fever dream this turned out to be the best I can. I'VE PLAYED THIS GAME TWICE

Arin's laugh at Dan going "The carbuncle ate itself?!" was some of the hardest laughing I've heard from him in ages.
I think the only laugh that beats this one is his laughter at the Mr. Wilson rap.

I've never heard Dan be so done with any game so quickly and I love it.
Right?! Like Dan is normally very funny, but for some reason, whenever he is tired, slightly sick, or confused/angry about what is happening in a game, his comedy rises to a strangely higher level and I love it!😂😂😂
"The Carbuncle ate itself" is even funnier in context because it's so random and sudden. Like mostly understandable game stuff is happening and then the text just. Shows up? As if it were just a normal little detail???
The very matter of fact way the game makes absolutely insane statements such as "the carbuncle ate itself" or "amy is cursed", with zero explanation, as though they just told you the weather forecast, it kills me
+Orchid Braid For context, the Carbuncle is a fairy disguised as a Forcejewel that eats the other Forcejewels in the inventory of the player who possesses it. It can be obtained in certain mini-games and from drawing the Eggman card and having the roulette land on Outcome #6. When there are no other Forcejewels left, the Carbuncle resorts to eating itself, hence the message that says "The Carbuncle ate itself."
Sonic Shuffle allows its AI to see hidden info such as your cards, knows how to handle bad items, all while explaining the mechanics to you, the player, in boring dialogue boxes with broken english. ACCIDENT!!

@@neal2399 The Carbuncle is a bad thing, because it eats the other Forcejewels in the inventory of the player who possesses it. It's also one of the punishments a player gets if they draw the Eggman card.

Pretty sure eggman was dropping the weight on the player who was farthest from the previous stone
So it's as vague and confusing as any other aspect of this game
Well, that would be a gift to the player furthest away from the stone, as it'd be a drag on whoever was closest (thus acting as a bit of rubber-banding)
That is, if the rings were useful at all.

18:10 I don't know why Eggman casually dropping a two ton anvil on Dan while he and Arin don't even comment on it immediately made me laugh so much
He was one block away but the anvil was meant for the furthest player from the emerald. Its just... wth its so unfair.
Love how Dan spends almost an entire episode trying to get the final stone and then Knuckles decides to teleport him away and wins the whole thing. Brilliant. Great game.

Oliver Xu I don’t really think it’s a joke. They’re just not that good at video games because they’re talking about stuff and trying to make things interesting. It’s just how things are and it’s ironic but a joke would imply that they’re doing it on purpose and I know they’re not

All of Arin's questions could probably be answered by: "because you put him on hard"
I think the best part about this is the fact that since they're playing on an emulator they are actually MISSING functions to the game. Not playing this on a Dreamcast without its controller and without the VMU that goes into the controller they cannot see their own cards. The VMU was basically the save card for the system and it had a little screen on it where it would display your cards. That said, this is still a pretty crappy Mario Party clone. Just would have been a little easier with the proper stuff.
so what youre saying is that Sonic Shuffle is forever trapped on the dreamcast and cannot escape via a port

A note on carbuncles:
For some reason, some Japanese word meaning something like “fairy” is really often translated into “carbuncle”
And that’s your lot really
There's a fairy-like creature associated with gemstones called a "carbuncle". That's what the Pokémon Carbink and Diancie (and possibly Sableye, partially) are based on.

last night I had a dream where I was Link in BOTW but in the Star Wars universe being narrated by Robert Downey Jr. and that makes more sense than this game.

To clarify, for anybody not in the know, the Carbuncle is an item (they call it a fairy, but who cares) that eats one of your Forcejewels per turn until there are none remaining. As soon as there are none remaining, it removes itself from your inventory (i.e.: it eats itself).
There. It is now no longer funny.
Arin: "Can we PLEASE put one on hard and one on easy?"
The game: "So you have chosen......death."

Another stunning game made by the sonic team
Out of all the sonic games they made they only have 6 good sonic games
This wasn't made by Sonic Team, it was made by Hudson, the same folks who made the N64 Mario Party games.
If by "stunning" you mean "makes me want to jump out the window and run headfirst into oncoming traffic", then yeah, this game is pretty stunning.

I laughed for a while when Amy was randomly cursed, I laughed when Dan yelled about the soda, I laughed every time Arin was upset it was the shooting game again, but when the carbuncle ate itself I cried for 10 minutes! Then the glitch happened and I sobbed the rest of the day. I don't know how I'm breathing right now 🤣
i remember when this series was coming out, I was watching them on the beach, as people around were confused to why i was laughing so hard.

This game is terrible. Every aspect of the game that contributes to a player winning is a random gamble. the only skill involved are in the minigames which gives you rings that don't matter at all. It is impossible to win a round on purpose.
its cause this is a dreamcast game and on the original controllers you have screens so other players cant see your cards but you can see yours

I hate to say it, but Mario parties can be like that too, I have a lot of grievances with Mario party where I won most minigames & I still lost due to random bullshit

It'd be like playing a more complicated version of Uno where just about every aspect of it either sucks ass or is meaningless AND you can't see your cards. RIngs are still meaningless. Items are borderline meaningless. You still have random events happen that don't make sense. You get punished for not being close enough to the gemruberald. The minigames are nonsense. Collecting the gemruberalds doesn't even mean much because most of what determines whether you win or not is given to you at the end, like Mario Party if the bonus stars mattered infinitely more than the regular stars that you collect. Yeah, so like playing Uno without seeing your cards, except not at all and way worse than that.
And I just found out that the characters have specials, too. Sonic gets to move double the spaces if he gets the same number twice in a row. Tails, Knuckles, and Amy all get special spaces on the board that they can use to travel places. Big the Cat, if he gets a 6, can choose any space from 1-6 to land on. Seems just as balanced as the rest of this trainwreck of a game is.

I love how Dan sounded somewhat interested in the opening seconds, and that quickly goes out the window in the character select screen. 😆
Then we get to watch in glee as he completely loses his mind after a mad series of events that include a hard echidna, self eating carbuncle, impromptu redux game, and so much more. All the while Arin takes it all in with a grin and a laugh. 😂

Salty Dan is rare but some of the best Grumps content imaginable.

So, um... Am I the only one who likes Sonic Shuffle unironically? A Mario Party game where you actually has a control over the flow of the game... What's not to like?
i hated it when i first got it cause i wanted Sonic Adventure.
Then after a while i picked Amy and started winning. Then it started getting interesting. It's actually playable on the actual Dreamcast with a VMU, or if you're playing Single Player.
This is up there with Dan's misery classics like Wheel of Fortune lose a turn and Monopoly community chest. I love it when a game just randomly destroys him. 😂
