    Always a pleasure to hear his dulcet tones voice-overs whilst staring at Mopar engines. 🙂
    Oh right, you asked about the block - 30 over all dang day, Joe. I assume there's going to be
    some piston matching to bores going on (since pistons ain't perfect either).
    I will much enjoy seeing the Gen3 come out of that Challenger - don't get me wrong, I own a
    couple of those in late model critters now and they're fine - but I like period-correct engines in

    .60 do it right the first time and hog that bad boy out and crank it up to the best you can afford to make it JMJ! Just a old man's opinion but you can go thirty or fourty over and then when you are going to have to rebuild it due to the wear and tear down the road you will still have meat in the block for sleeves or just a .060 bore and stroker kit or something that you would like to do to it. Great evening and enjoy your day tomorrow.

      @@RichieCat4223 it isn’t finish honed at all. This was a mystery block that had rust in the bores. No idea who machined it previously, and no idea what size was. It was fast and easy to load it into the hone and give each hole 10 strokes. Knocked out the rust and was easy access with the dial bore gauge. I don’t have pistons yet, and it’s not finish honed.

    If I watched this right and paid enough attention then the evens bank still has some small rust pits? (On my morning coffee so not fully with it in case I missed something 3:45 ) Go another 10 and call it at +.040 and ensuring a deep hatch and that does still leave another 20 for desperate measures later. Then again I'm the guy who pulls apart a junkyard motor, does that sandpaper hone you mentioned, clean up the pistons and ring grooves... then slap it all together. drop in a car then pull the pin. Only lost 2 motors in my life and they were to a certain orange oil filter company. Besides, if you really need a good 440 you can come up to montucky and relieve me of this 71 440 and +.030 *factory* 383 from 68.

    I am now confused -
    It miked 0.030 over.
    And you r honing it to 0.030 over.
    Assure roundness ?
    Establish a certain surface finish/plateau ?
    How can that be attained without making it somewhat larger than 0.030 ?

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  2 месяца назад

      The bores all had varied sizes. My guess is that the machinist who initially did it did not have as nice of bore gauge as Rick’s, or they had just did a “good enough” job on it. We are in a tight spot here, because the bores had some surface rust from sitting in the corner. I’m absolutely good with sacrificing some metal to achieve a better finish. I definitely think going bore by bore and mating each one to each piston will help some. The current plan is stay .030.
