what would make cents is if the reports of FedEx is offering 160M per year for naming rights to the Big12 if Memphis is added. You now have a new man in charge of the Big 12 who is a businessman and someone who does things differently. Several reporters out of Memphis saying they have proof he was there. So believe what you want. But I would think someone like Yormark is going to at least listen on that kind of offer.

Nah. When the Big12 was desperate they said no and rightfully picked Houston,UCF,BYU, and Cincinnati over them. Now with the Big12 is stable the only reason to expand is because the networks are willing to pay for it. Only P5 schools get that from ESPN in the media contract and Fox is willing to kick in on case by case also only P5.

Why would the big 12 add PAC teams? It’s a failing conference for a reason. Mountain & Pacific time zones are just too hard for viewers to stay up for on the east coast.
Big 12 should add Memphis and maybe Colorado. Then wait for
The ACC to implode and go poach & reunite the old metro conference teams with Memphis and Cincinnati: Va Tech, Florida state, Louisville & Georgia Tech. That would be a hell of a conference when you add it all to the current Big12 roster of teams.

The Pac has failed because of incompetence at the conference level and arrogance at the levels of the schools.
They obviously overestimated their value and are paying for it.
The markets that will feature the sports and the overall college sports market share is what we're concerned with.

Its about money sir! Pac schools will bring in direct money from one (espn) and possibly 2 (fox) tv networks. I don't give a flip how much FedEx can spend. Why is that so hard to understand? It's not that Memphis doesn't have potential it's that the B12 will not add them alone or in a group of G5 only additions. It's not personal it's business. There best chance is if asu and Utah stay put then Memphis might sneak in. Memphis is behind Uconn on that list btw.

What's with the consistent hate on Houston from Memphis supporters? Houston is still the 4th largest city in the country and some are missing the historical value they will bring connecting back vs Baylor, TCU, & Tx. Tech from their days in the SWC. The athletic program has been decent over the last 10yrs and the academia status has been going up. U of H currently has 7 pro teams that they compete against for dollars plus Rice, TSU, & HBU. Houston could've been a beast by now if it wasn't for politics from UT & A&M when it came to joining the original B12. TxTech & Baylor got the knod because they weren't connected to the bigger cities like TCU, SMU, & Houston.
Memphis would fit perfect in a 18 team league for the B12 if I had my choices.

  • @dfausti66
    @dfausti66 Год назад

Due to the media rights agreements of the P5 schools regarding non-P5 add-ons, the Big 12 needs to provide a path to "citizenship" through independents. If SDSU, UNLV, Memphis, SMU, SJSU, Louisville, Liberty, and other such schools want into a P5 conference, go independent, get your own media rights agreement to determine the value of your school, start playing P5 schools as often as you can, and then win those games consistently if you can. That is the best way you can prove yourself ready for the P5 competition. This is the path BYU and Notre Dame have taken. Think about it! Are you ready to advance yourself to the next level or are you going to be comfortable right where you are and decrease your chances of playing for a national championship in the future? The choice is yours if you are up for it!

That's the report going around, that's coming out of his visit. Plus you can add Memphis and not give them anywhere near a full share. I think Memphis is a good addition if you get the FedEx money and you only get an odd number of Pac schools. No way I take them if you get even number of Pac schools. "Adding Memphis to the Big XII would be a good idea imo. It would make more sense than adding UConn in the grand scheme of things. Geographically Memphis is a better fit for the Big XII than UConn. Performance-wise... yes, that's an issue. Memphis is obviously invested in college basketball, and their football program is in a very similar position to that of UConn. Tapping into SEC territory, knowing the Volunteers are across the state of Tennessee, would be a good play. True, even if Pac and Acc schools are a no-go, there are better g5 schools like Sdsu and Uconn.

No, Memphis doesn't make sense. They couldn't make the cut in the last round when it was only G5 schools the Big 12 was adding. Now the Big 12 can poach PAC schools, and possibly not add a G5 school at all. They should miss the cut again.

I like Memphis, it gives us a new state, but it's not P5 so there are other better picks if they are available if they NEED to expand.
If they don't need to expand I can see why they would wait.
IF the B1G & SEC decide to go to 24 Memphis will absolutely be one of the 72 (3 of 24)
If they go to 18 or 20 (or stay at 16) it's a tougher call.

No, Memphis has a lot of historical significance. It's a better version of Houston as it doesn't take away from recruiting from the real big Texas brands left in the BIG12. Access to freaking Memphis market is highly coveted!

5 million people in Houston don’t care about the cougars. 1.5 million in Memphis, and 90% are obsessed with Memphis. And the other 10% are SEC fans who root for Memphis to.
