Hi guys! I meant to add that when Jesus is referring to the woman and her child as "dogs" he seems to be using a word for dog commonly used when referencing a pet dog, not a stray dog-as was the typical insult. This could change the interpretation, though I don't think it really changes the strangeness of the interaction or his unwillingness to immediately help a woman in need. He seemed more eager to make a point than to actually assist her. Thought it was important to share so I'm not misleading!
Surely a being that's capable of manufacturing planets wouldn't leave his word open to interpretation by letting goat herders scribble it down. You'd think that he'd be able to write " I'm not asleep" across the sky if he so wished.
People say that atheists just cherry picking bad parts of the Bible, but the fact that there are bad parts to be found in the first place, goes against their logic.
@@itsROMPERS...I would go even further beyond that point! That is to say an all knowing, all good God that is all powerful would not even allow for the possibility of his word being mistaken as having bad part's in it.
I’m so glad you included the verse about the only proper reason for divorce is sexual immorality. I separated from my “Christian” husband due to DV and SA. My Christian friends disproved and called me an adulteress. My Christian college and my church also supported my now ex-husband. I was in fear of my life and could have really benefited from their support. It’s 35 years later now and it still hurts 😢. I think that I’d rather he cheated on me than rather than the violoncello I faced.
The biblical gaslighting is so manipulative and abusive that passing it on to younger generations needs to be banned. If someone over the age of 18 chooses to read that shit and believe it, that's their business, but engaging in the child abuse of brainwashing anyone under the age of 18 needs to be recognised as such.
I like that Kristi is very calm and level-headed when deconstructing and discussing her topics. She makes for a good listen-along while you are doing household chores or exercising. Thanks so much, Kristi. This is also very therapeutic.
She's a moron. She totally forgot that the Bible has been interpreted and reinterpreted by man. The books of the Bible were written by the people that lived through the Era of Christ. Man screwed it up but it's still readable with faith.
I had a Christian friend die about 2 years ago. His oldest son took it hard and ended up going to a fundamentalist Church and also contacting a televangelist. He was told by one or the other that his father died because he didn't pray right. My first thoughts were "What a bunch of a$$holes for telling him that" Every day I have reinforcement for rejecting all that crap.

My mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was 10 years old. I was brought up in Christian faith and read the verse that said with faith everything is possible. That you can command a mountain to move and it will move. So with the massive faith of a 10-year-old I prayed to God (day and night) to heal my mother. But He didn't. She died a slow painful death.
Honestly, I'm sorry your mother passed in a horrible way. If I lost someone in a horrible way as a christian If had faith and he did not answer. I definitely know it would not have been my faith According to Matthew 17:20-21 cause all I would need is small faith to be enough. If the Lord didn't answer my prayers I would be broken and angry but I wouldnt doubt his existence cause history and my experience with mircles and demons iv seen are evidence to me, cause honestly i just can't say well God doesn't exist which is dumb cause I be ignoring my experiences. I would've sought the Lord for a clear answer that he would speak to me himself face to face and tell me why. I wouldn't curse him but I would be angry and honest and speak about my feelings about this. Some people will say trust in the lord in all you ways. Which is not wrong, I know christian martyrs died horrible ways but that's a whole different long topic. As human being who is in deep grief I would push away any Christians who using scriptures basically saying "Trust God or God's plan always works out " I would honestly say leave me alone let God give me the answer for he could speak for himself no one needs to speak for him cause he's God. I'm glad that you mentioned that Jesus was a Jewish apocalyptic preacher! Someone else pointed that out to me when I was deconstructing (I feel like I am still deconstructing even though I'm an atheist now because I am unlearning and learning so much still) and when they pointed it out, so much of the Bible made so much more sense to me. I feel like I have a much better understanding of Christianity now, and I become more confident in my unbelief.
Yeah, it clarifies a lot of things, including some of what sounds like really terrible advice from Jesus. For instance, if someone wants to sue you, give them twice as much as they want. I think everyone would recognize that as really bad advice. Certainly no Christian would follow it. But it makes a little more sense when you realize Jesus thought God was about to intervene to wipe out the forces of evil and everyone allied with them.
You are right. It make perfect sense in that context. But I still struggle with indoctrinated guilt because he’s made into such a victim that just wants to love everyone. All the images of him crying and bleeding on the cross. Ugh 😣 can’t get it out of my mind. It’s so clear now and yet I’m still brainwashed somehow.
@@reneets5729 You are not alone. You and I (and many other people) have been indoctrinated. That is not a character flaw on our end, it just means we have to work on ourselves. Obviously, being kind and patient with others is a good thing and I don't want to change that about myself, but I need to change my reasoning. BUT! On the negative side, I am not very patient and kind to myself because I was indoctrinated to believe "you are a sinner and you deserve to go to hell." So I need to completely change the way I see myself, and I'm getting better at it, but I still really struggle with it. Changing the way you see everything takes time and is a lot of hard work. Just wanna tell all of you that being indoctrinated into a cult is NOT a show of poor character. I'm a lifelong atheist and had the fortune that my mom is an amazing person who didn't force me into this nonsense. I can't even begin to imagine how hard and taxing it is to get out of this. Consider the innumerable women in Biblical times who would have been subjected to a slave life, and unable to leave psychological and physical abuse. In other words , this wasn't the occasion to raise modern men's concerns.

The 'turn against your family members' narrative is actually pretty relevant to me. My mother is a Christadelphian, who believe that non-believers will never enter the afterlife (they will just kind of vanish and rot away on death). My father, who died about a year ago from motor neuron disease, was not religious. I find it really awkward that my mother is being forced to believe by her religion that she is going to experience an eternity without her very beloved husband, and heck, will have an eternity without me. That's a cruel story to tell my mother, and I actually resent her religion for telling it to her.
wrt "...I actually resent her religion for telling it to her..." yeah, but it is SHE who embraces an ideology that as she faces her own mortality, appears to "promise" an afterlife that is not really all that appealing. If Kristi said she'd created a torture chamber and planned to throw me in unless I believe she's always nice, I'd have problems with it. When someone says a god is making the same threat, I still find the threat immoral. I didn't get my belief that no-one is above question from Kristi. "into your flesh mind.". I don't see how it matters if my mind is made of flesh. If modern christianity is correct, then it's my soul who has my ideas. Either way, I have the same ideas. "Look at who you follow before you judge the creator that made you". I can and do judge both. If I was created (which I'm not convinced of) then I'd have a lot of questions I'd need very good answers to before I'd believe that creator was anywhere near perfect. "before you can judge". Why would I need to form opinions about people in a specific order? I'm not simply going to assume ANYONE is acting ethically when the available information portrays them as a monster. "and follow a simple minded helper of God". I'll listen to your ideas, and might agree with some, but I won't follow you blindly any more than I'll blindly follow anyone else.

Don't forget that JC made a fig tree to wither because it had no figs at the time he felt like having some. So much for 'love is patient, love is kind..."😂
How come Jesus didn't just make the fig tree suddenly burst into fruit? At least as easy as water into wine, I should think. Maybe his miracle chops a bit 'off' that day?
I know you probably don't care but the cursing of the fig tree was a metaphor about the Pharisees ( the church leaders) of that time. When Jesus, their supposed long awaited messiah came looking for good works in the church he found none. He was cursing the church. Eventually the main temple was destroyed and most Jewish people still don't accept him as the Messiah. "This foundational metaphor for Israel’s spiritual health vividly blooms in the prophetic era. The time had come for God’s people to yield fruit that would bless the world (Isa. 27:6). Several times the prophets describe God as inspecting Israel for “early figs,” as a sign of spiritual fruitfulness (Mic. 7:1; Jer. 8:13; Hos. 9:10-17)-but he finds “no first-ripe fig that my soul desires.” So in two exiles (Assyrian and Babylonian), God pours out the curse of barrenness (Hos. 9:16), and Israel becomes a rotten fig (Jer. 29:17)." @@letsomethingshine No. A wild dog is a vicious, dangerous animal that mauls children and carries rabies. There are many places in the bible were the Hebrew term for a feral dog is used to refer to dangerous, criminal men -- murderers, thieves, and bandits. The term Jesus uses when talking to the Symirian woman doesn't convey any of that. What's important to understand is that she knows she has no right to this miracle. She calls Jesus "the Son of David," which is basically her acknowledging that he's a Jew and she's not. What Jesus is saying to the woman by using this word is not that she's evil, but she's not one of God's chosen people. He's making it explicit what she has implied by calling him the Son of David, that she is coming to a Jew whose god she denies and doesn't worship and asking for that God she denies in her daily life to do her this great thing. Which is kind of audacious, so Jesus calls her out on it. And rather than get angry, she shows humility, she *accepts* that she is unworthy and that she has come like a dog begging. Also important to this context is that Jesus's own disciples are watching this happen. They have already asked Jesus to send her away because she is not a Jew. They are being jerks, having no pity for this woman. And by calling her a dog in this neutral way, Jesus is setting her up to teach his own disciples a lesson, because when she shows humility and asks doesn't God have enough love for the dog under the table to be fed too, Jesus applauds her faith and heals her child, confirming that God has love for all, even those who have broken covenant with him, which is a rebuke to his own disciples hard-heartedness.
It's in line with the Tanakh, all throughout the Torah and the Prophets anyone who is not of the nation of Israel, is referred to in some negative way. The Israelites are the chosen people of YHWH, he set them high above the other nations and the nations will lick the dust from Israel's feet. Many people always want to divorce Jesus, from the prophecies and codes of the OT and that's just not possible, because Jesus speaks on behalf of YHWH.
@@thedude9941 You are wrong. The OT rarely mentions other nations in a negative light, and when it does, it's because those nations were oppressing Israelites.
If you hated your family you would not be worthy of Jesus's love. Jesus said if you hate your brother (or sister, mother etc, ) whom you can see, how can you say you love God whom you cannot see?"
This is why you must read the word in the spirit! Reading from a carnal mind will cause you to misunderstand the spiritual meanings of it all. The Messiah wasn’t saying to hate your family as in wishing harm upon them or being rude to them. Hate meant to be able to turn away away from them or their actions if they put you in a position to where you are in opposition to the Creator.
Looking forward to this one. Its topics like these, that put to rest all that "but its OT" and "you don't understand the context" Excited to see which 6 you have chosen!

I love your calm and sincere take on Christianity. I have been an agnostic atheist for 9 years now. It was my attempt to become a stronger Christian which made me realize how terrible the bible is.
Yes, this is my problem as well, they just say "read the Bible, your faith will increase!" And...no, not at all. The more I study, the more that Jesus is not the "Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so..." of the songs....
Yes, being inquisitive, intellectually honest and having the will to examine the evidence critically and find the truth where ever the evidence leads is what leads to deconversion but apologists must never say that, they have to make out you are a bad person. Reading the bible cover to cover is great for making atheists.
Not surprising. Modern Christianity is for the most part based on some prosperity theology. True Christianity is something completely different. I can see why Ms. Burke turned completely against Christianity. She and many like have her never truly understood her life and existence in the context of God, Christ, and the Bible.
ex muslim boi i didn't want to laugh you make me laugh if u want the truth read the Bible first to the last read gosple torah etc if ur not dumb like her u will realize something she didn't finish the story so u finish she just tells her though and think of the verse when there is answer
I always struggled with those verses, so thank you for perspective. Here's another one - the story of Jesus cursing the fig tree for not bearing fruit. His manner always struck me as petulant. What about the disciples telling him his mother and brothers had come to see him; then sanctimoniously dismissed their affections by saying that his true family did his father's will. Later in the gospel account he teaches his followers to honour their mother and father! Then there's the story of the demon called legion who told Jesus to send them into a herd of pigs; they ran off a cliff and drowned, depriving a farmer of his livelihood. If he was both fully god and fully human, I think these are some of his human characteristics
The fig tree was a symbol of Israel. The cursing of the fig tree was a warning to Jesus's fellow-Jews, that if they didn't repent disaster would come upon them. Jesus made it clear that His message was all-important, beyond even family ties. The demons (plural, because a legion) begged not to be sent back to Hell. So Jesus granted them a respite by sending them into the pigs.
Yeah, those are some bad ones, too. Christianity claims to be about "family values," and yet Jesus wasn't exactly a fan of the family. I sympathize with the pigs in that story, too. What did they do to deserve having demons implanted in them and driven to suicide?
You're very refreshing, Kristi. I'm through the anger phase (mostly) and your softer, and kinder manner is lovely. This channel is what I'm looking for. Thank you. Keep teaching us, you're doing fantastic!

When Christians accuse non-believers of "cherry picking" the bad stuff, they need to realize only one thing: The good stuff has been talked about over and over again. The good stuff is all you hear about on Christian radio stations, television programs, and from the pulpit every Sunday. Isn't about time we start hearing about the stuff you don't get in church?
Well, I will say that the times I have tuned in to Christian radio, I have heard some bad stuff. Like the parents with a grown gay son asking a prracher if it was okay to keep in contact with him. The preacher's response? "You know he's being sinful, you have to cast him out. until he repents.." Which would be an illustration of the "leave your family behind and follow me".
jesus hated figs and cursed fig trees. I planted two fig trees in my yard so I suppose that jesus hates me. When people tell me that 'jesus loves you', I point this out and say, 'how can he love me when I plant fig trees?"
As I read the story he liked figs but was pissed off with the tree because it didn’t have any for him even though he went out of his way to get some. So he used his super powered faith to kill the tree. Kind of a jerk in that story. It’s not like the tree deliberately withheld its fruit. It just didn’t have any. If the tree didn’t have what Jesus wanted it should die, right? I can imagine some guy with an armful of figs who got to the tree before Jesus seeing what happened and thinking “oh shit, I’d better get out of here!”
Yours is the best response to all the misguided products this woman produces until she surrenders her understanding to God's Spirit. There's much opportunity to twist truth of scripture since it is voluminous and has a long history of twists by enemies. e.g. Jesus is just about love (but not Justice) and a man (accurate but incomplete), and His purpose is to accommodate me and my friends rather than to accomplish truth and justice as well.

I’m not Buddhist but Buddha wisdom and insight walks circles around Jesus. In Buddhist scripture not one word of violence , intolerance , hatred etc is found anywhere at all
Buddhism is a philosophy of equilibrium. Christianity teaches to deny yourself in order to receive the truth; Buddhism teaches to empty yourself because emptiness is the truth 😊
@@succulentsfun yea exactly. In Buddhism you look and find within . Be a lamp unto yourself :). With Christianity it seems you take a leap of faith (out of fear and emotional attachment )and submit to something outside. Give your lamp unto something outside you . And if not , you go to hell . Smh . Completely backwards in my view
I agree that Buddhism is good for encouraging people to think for themselves, and for nonviolence (usually). But Buddhism, similarly to the issues in this video, can also be family-hating and victim-blaming. The Buddha named his son Rahul, which means fetter (shackles/ankle chains). And if you're having troubles (poverty, illness, etc.), it's because you were immoral in a past life. I've got nothing against Buddhism, just adding some information.
@@rachelmann7488 perhaps however I disagree. I am not Buddhist . I do not believe in reincarnation either . Although it seems remotely more plausible than the idea of heaven . Nonetheless there is so much more practical and useful insight within the teachings of Buddha that can be put to use for the only life we know we have for certain . To me , Buddhist psychology is all about the mind and how it works . Excellent insight. And even if reincarnation is true , then for someone who dives whole heartedly into Buddhism can be motivated to improve in this current lifetime and overcome their “previous life’s” faults . As for Rhaul , it’s just a story /legend about being captured by material things which drives you further away from what the Buddha was trying to make understood . Every act, every word, every thought was taught to be in alignment with the ultimate goal: enlightenment, and freedom from “dukka” = suffering

@@jezebelvibes I like your videos too. The problem with 'Christianity' is that from its inception the belief has always been in the inerrancy of the Bible. They have sold themselves to the idea that the Bible is the Word of God and that everything you read in it is God inspired, God ordained or God prescribed. When someone like yourself start to examine the bible now with a critical eye, you are disappointed and left with the belief that what you have believed all these years is false. As I said under one of your other videos, I too have questioned the bible and do not accept a number of things written in it but one thing I KNOW is that what God has done for me, is NOT UNTRUE. Thought you might discuss Jesus throwing the sellers from the temple which seems to be the one time he used personal violence. Guess that's a rule they really wanted to emphasis. I often hear it used to justify violence done in Jesus' name when you say "Jesus was for peace."
He saw those sellers as abusing his father's house. Would you eject trespassers from your property or would you allow them to stay regardless of what they were doing?
@@jameshogan6142 A temple is a public place, not a residence. I'm not saying Jesus was wrong, just odd he used violence in that matter and not in others, including when he was taken. But the right wing Christins use that story to say Jesus was OK with violence & then forgot "turn the other cheek" or "blessed are the peacemakers." All I hear is hate, anger and a false sense of persecution from the right wing Christians, the opposite of what Jesus was for.
He drove them out as one might do to trespassers in one's own home. These people were violating God's reconciliation between creator and creature. Ah but you are misreading verse 26. 😉 I offer this bit of special revelation at no charge: Jesus was actually foreshadowing Markovnikov’s rule (organic chemistry) for the addition of an aprotic acid HX, across an asymmetric double bond. My organic prof put the rule succinctly: “them that has gets”. And to think that it was not until 1870 AD that science “discovered” this ancient wisdom embedded in the very life of molecules! The Matthew 10 verses have always really stuck with me, because you're right - anyone rambling like that today would be dismissed as the fanatical leader of doomsday cult, and either ignored, or watched with a wary eye. It's only hinted at in that passage, but it reminds me that most of Jesus' teachings on love and forgiveness are perverse, inasmuch as he commands them. You cannot be commanded to love or forgive, these must develop organically. If you're compelled to do so, then they become worthless. This is best illustrated by the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant, prompted by Jesus saying you must forgive others '70 times 7' or else you won't be forgiven yourself. In what way would such a forgiveness then be genuine? I also think that Jesus was several steps behind other moral teachers of the ancient world because of how he gave his teachings as unquestionable imperatives, whereas others, including Epicurus, Seneca, and even obvious products of their time like Confucius and Aristotle viewed moral character as a process you should reflect on and refine. For them it was very rarely, 'don't do X, do Y,' and they certainly wouldn't have equated feeling lust to committing adultery, as Jesus does in Matthew 5. There, he also suggests you gouge your eye out if it causes you to sin. Yes, it's hyperbole, but even taken figuratively, it's suggesting you should forcibly suppress parts of yourself that are causing certain behaviours, rather than taking the time to examine them and work out the way in which you can improve. Jesus obviously thought such a matter was very urgent, but such an assumption is no use to us. Sorry, long comment, this got me thinking a lot!
@GTGforever Yes, it's so absolute that rather than having David killed for adultery, as the Law commands, God killed his blameless child instead. It's so absolute that Paul had to write to the Galatians to implore them not to see the Mosaic Law as binding anymore despite Jesus' insistance on it (except when he was lenient on things like observing the Sabbath). It's so absolute that God shouldn't be put to the test, except when Gideon really wanted several signs to show God was with him in his fight against the Midianites and that was perfectly fine. It's so absolute that sacrifice was of vital importance to God for forgiveness, except when prophets such as Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Amos downplayed sacrifice in favour of justice, Ezekiel 18:21-22 explicitly saying God will forgive people who turn from their sinful ways, with no sacrifice mentioned, and Jesus was able forgive the sins of the paralysed man at Capernaum when no sacrifice was done, but then that absolute morality changed again once the biblical authors decided that forgiveness requires blood (Hebrews 9:22) because otherwise their chosen justification of Jesus' crucifixion wouldn't make sense. It's so absolute that Christians have disagreed on some of the fundamental aspects of morality and salvation since the beginning (again, see Galatians) and continue to do so today.
Thanks for addressing this issue! It's very important. It was the last domino to fall, for me. I had already realized Jesus wasn't divine, but I still thought of him as a great moral exemplar. Not so much! For more info, people should consider reading David Madison's "Ten Things Christians Wish Jesus Hadn't Taught" or Hector Avalos' "Bad Jesus." They give many more examples along the same lines. We grew up with an idealized picture of Jesus -- good shepherd, kind and all-loving, all-merciful. Dig into the "bad Jesus" material, and you'll get a very different picture.
@@tracyavent-costanza346 It's a metaphor. Jesus didn't use a sword and warned the Apostles against using the sword: "he who takes the sword shall perish by the sword."

@@tonybuck1225 nope. simon-peter would not be slicing off someone's ear with a metaphor. Really I have a lot of issues with apologist claims about what is "correct" exegesis or context. I would add to this list the time Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for having become lax about enforcing the law that children who disrespect their parents are to be killed. (Matthew 15:4)
You’re so right! Lolz if I told my family I was leaving them and everything else to follow this guy I think is pretty great, they would flip!! But somehow thousands of years ago it was a good idea.
Thank you Kristi! You're spot on. There are many passages where Jesus wasn't all peace & love. And you're right, if what's written in the Gospels about his preachings is anything close to his actual words, then he was indeed a delusional apocalyptic preacher (he said that the kingdom of god would come during his generation and - spoiler alert - it didn't). There is one passage that always bothered me (I used to be an evangelical christian too, btw) where this man possessed by a bunch of demons comes to him and when he commands the demons to leave the man they started negotiating with him asking him for permission to go possess a group of pigs who were just going about their business. And instead of telling the demons to just leave the man alone and get lost he does allow them to go possess the poor pigs who then jump off a cliff and die. Why would he do such a cruel thing? Wasn't he the all-loving and all-powerful creator? I always found this to be really unnecessary and unfair. This passage wasn't the reason why I finally realised that the Bible is BS, though. It was all the violence, injustice (including slavery), bigotry, sexism and speciesism that, according to the Bible, god not only condoned, but actually commanded. So, after years of trying to find excuses, I finally came to the conclusion that either the Bible wasn't the word of god, or god was a horrible being that I certainly wouldn't want to worship anyway.
Vegan for the animals and I’ve ALWAYS wondered how Jesus could have more mercy for demons than for innocent pigs. The demons sent the pigs mad and must have caused such pure agony to them that they killed themselves to make it stop. Where was their justice? Why did they suffer the worst because God made them lower in rank to humans. It means that Jesus has more mercy for demons than for innocent creatures who did not make themselves…💔
Very good, Kristi. You do a really good job presenting these. Your remarks about faith and the mustard seed is so true. I left a great deal to move across country in order to devote myself to living for the faith in a like minded community. Oh, yea, I had a mountain of faith, but could not move a mustard seed. The more devoted I became, the crazier I became and so did the people of like mind. I’m done with blaming myself for not having enough faith. Therein lies madness.
Here's another one along the same line as "forsake your father". Matthew 12 starting at vs. 46: ⁴⁶While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside wanting to speak to him. ⁴⁷Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside wanting to speak to you". ⁴⁸He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" ⁴⁹Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." First of all, to me this shows disrespect for his mother. We are told to honor our parents, yet here he is almost denying his family and saying that those who "do the will of his father" are his family. I found this passage troubling for a long time. To me it sounds like "follow me at all cost, and even at the expense of obeying the Torah".

I never understood the passages where Jesus says that if you do not "hate your parents or your own life" then one is "not worthy" of him. How do I read that in light of the Ten Commandments commanding people to "honor" their parents. Which one is it?
From one answer on hermeneutics stackexchange for question “Jesus' command to hate your father and mother in Luke 14:26” “From highly contested Aramaic Primacy wing, Christopher Lancaster, in his Concise Compendium offers the following insight on page 57, under subtitle number 7 "hate" or "put aside" The answer lies in the Aramaic word [transliterated] sone' sone' to put aside to hate to have an aversion to So with this in mind, the more correct translation of Luke 14:26: "If any man comes to me, and doesn't put aside his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."” I would add to this that in Matthew this passage is written as: “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” Mt 10:37 so we have independent source from disciple of Jesus, that understands this passage in very similar meaning as “to put aside” I recommend to check responses to that question (unfortunately youtube blocks comments with direct link, butwith name of question you can find it immediately). So basically, this passage has nothing to do with command to honour your father and mother, rather that you have to put God above anything from this world.
Well a lot of early gnostic Christians thought Jesus was actually opposed to Yahweh, who was an evil pretender, and Jesus came representing the REAL God I have to say it makes more sense than the canon
This was really interesting! I mean, it's clear that Jesus was never that perfect person that people built him up to be. But it is curious to see how even in his own tale he is being pretty douchy sometimes. And it is especially funny that one of your examples is from the story with the famous 'move mountains' quote. So really, thankyou for sharing.
I will believe it when I see some SOB moving a mountain. Not seen it yet, not even close. Thank you for your messages, Kristi! I was involved in a very extreme order within Catholicism called Miles Jesu for quite a long time. I eventually went on a retreat weekend to consider being a priest, rather than accept that I am a transgender woman. I believed everything they said, I hated myself. There was a young man there who was close to ordination, but his grandma who lived nearby was dying. They told him that his family could visit him if they wanted, but the order could not allow him to take any time off to be with his family in this dire time. Later they had an Ignatian meditation on Jesus walking on water & Peter heading out to meet him but losing faith. I envisioned, as if it were actually happening to me, that I was Peter. But I had all the faith in the world & knew it was Jesus, knew I could make it to Jesus because I believed. The thing was: my mom was in the boat with the other apostles trying to hold me back, my closest friend was pushing me forwards - but, as I moved forwards, both fell in the water & were drowning. I saw Jesus, knew I should leave behind my family & friends & be with him, KNEW it with ALL of my heart!! But they were drowning, so I turned my back on Christ & went to them. This retreat weekend & meditation was so traumatic, as if it all really happened to me & wasn't just my thoughts. I am so extremely glad that I left that group (pretty much a cult within the church), that I eventually escaped Catholicism, & that I've found people like you. Thanks for sharing your journey, & how dangerous blind faith in religion can be.

Actually the "red letters" are an odd thing. They use what is quoted as coming from Jesus as what Jesus allegedly says. The so-called Gospels were written at least 50 years after Jesus died. There are whole separate Gnostic gospels (never made it to the Bible---Timothy, Mary Magdelene, Judas, etc.) One has Jesus playing with toy birds and another whispering truths to Mary M, who he tells secret things to). I mean who the heck knows what he really said (or didn't say). I believe Jesus was some sort of "famous" rabbi, at least enough so that people had their theories and stories about them. But as oral traditions, not extensive notes.
It’s so weird that people take the word of Roman translations of ancient people’s beliefs about what God said, and then live their life as though it’s more than the word of Roman translations of ancient people’s beliefs about what God said.
Gospels were written in Greek. But yes, Greek narratives about people who spoke almost exclusively Aramaic. The reported speeches of Jesus were necessarily a translation.
@@pansepot1490 yeah, I don’t think the Roman Church had any incentive to translate honestly. Rome was interested in preserving its power, not the truth. The true story of Jesus is gone with him, we’ll never know what really happened.
The part about the faith the size of a mustard seed really effed with my head as a kid. Like, that moment of "I really tried to move this mountain like a super powerful Professor X, and when I couldn't it felt like that meant I didn't have the faith I thought I did"
Imagine Jesus saying that to the woman with a smile and a wink. He actually may have had a wry sense of humor. He knew of the caste system and didn’t like it, as evidenced by the Good Samaritan story. She may have got the humor and replied in kind. Text doesn’t convey such things unless it’s more detailed. “Bringing a sword” means that there will be division among families and friends as a natural result of apostasy from old religions which is what many would see allegiance to Jesus as being.
The mustard seed of faith is a type test used by narcissist cult leaders on their subjects in order to determine who has gone under the spell and how far under they are!

I love your channel. I always laugh when people tell me the new testament is the "good" part of the bible. When in reality Jesus is just as immoral as his father is.
*_Jesus said, "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household."_* Why? In what context?
Jesus is the Word of God, the sharpest Two-Edge Sword, brought spiritual warfare to the earth, and brought division: separating light from darkness, sheep from goats, wheat from the chaff. Jesus never hesitated to speak the Truth, as He is the Truth. Remember John 6:56-69? Was that a "cult leader" would do? Nevertheless, Matthew 10:34-36 has nothing to do with promoting aggressiveness, look up David Wood (Scripture Twisting 101) for some explanation. Maybe also look up "Shroud of Turin: The evidence, that corroborates Jesus' historicity and biblical identity" - hope you can understand a little bit more about His love.
@@succulentsfun Thanks. Yes, you explained the correct context in which Jesus was speaking. But I asked because some (who profess to be atheist) may deliberately slander Jesus by using His words out of context.
Well, I see it this way: the god of the Torah, Yahweh, was originally one of a pantheon of about 80 Canaanite gods. He was the war god. Over at ThinkingAtheist, I listened to him interview a bible scholar who pointed out that a lot of the contradictions there have to do with the israelites making Yahweh into the One God. And doing their best to kill off anyone who didn't want to believe that with them. So if your One God is the war god, and Jesus stems from that tradition, why would Jesus not advertise war as the solution? If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Personally I think if we made war and competition to be about one-eightieth of human endeavor, the world would be a much more beautiful place.
@@sundayoliver3147 Or, like the Bible clearly shows, Yahweh is the Creator God who had a number of His sons rebel.(Genesis 6:1-5, Jude 1:5-7, 2 Peter 2:4-8), The nations, as well of many of the Israelites, chose to worship those sons rather than Yahweh. This same theme runs in various mythologies: A father god and sons who rebelled against him. Here is another one that is a real kicker for me, and was the cause of monumental anguish causing me to fall away for many years. As we all know, finding the love of your life is a big thing for many people, it is a central theme of growing up and becoming a young adult. Nothing inspires more songs, poems, books, movies and art than a man's love for his woman and a woman's love for her man. For young Christians, finding a compatible Christian partner is a milestone that we all long for deeply. Moreover, we are told in scripture that God holds the marriage of man and woman in very high regard. We are told in Genesis that it is not good for the man to be alone, and "I will create for him a companion", says God. He told them to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. He said the son shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. Sadly, not everyone has success in finding a partner when they are young, and some people never do. We face our thirties and forties in a society that glorifies youth and it seems that it's all over for those people. In Matthew 22, a group of Sadducees confront Jesus with a catch-22 story and question designed to trap him. They weave a tale of a woman who marries seven brothers in accordance with Leverate law. Each dies childless, compelling the woman to marry the next brother, and finally she dies herself. "Whose wife will she be in the resurrection, for all seven had her as wife?". Jesus replies with, "In the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven". We are therefore taught by the church that there is no consorting with gendered partners in the afterlife. Some even teach that we become genderless in the new creation. This is not only devastating for single people, but can lead to rash and harmful behavior... having sex outside of marriage anyway, rushing into marriage with the wrong person, divorcing and re-marrying in an effort to find the "perfect" partner, because evidently if you don't have that experience here you never will in eternity. For countless others it can lead to substance addiction and even suicide. If Jesus is God then didn't he create sex and marriage? Didn't he call it very good? Is he going to abolish his own design? This message seems very contradictory. Jewish rabbis, to their credit, say that this is one of the problems with Jesus' teaching and they say that teachings in the Hebrew Bible (our Old Testament) point very much to God restoring ALL of the blessings that he gave to Adam and Eve, including their relationship.
I think the assumption that Jesus is God The Father is a big hang up a lot of Christians have. The one that Jesus calls "Father," is most likely not YHWH, but, another being in the Godhead. As we know, in Heaven there is no Beer, that's why we drink it here. The same could be said of sex, and marriage. So enjoy your life now, while you can.
@@visaman "As we know" there is no beer/sex/etc. in heaven? I'm sure a lot of people have been there and come back to report on that. Do you see what's wrong with your logic? Enjoy [beer or sex or whatever] now while you can, because it won't be in heaven? That suggests that there is something here that is better than heaven. I thought heaven was supposed to be the ultimate reward for the faithful. If not, then we are sacrificing the flesh for.... what, exactly? Some utopian Kumbaya existence where we just float in the clouds and sing and worship? Or, of course, we can go to hell if we don't obey him. What a choice! You are proving my point of why so many people are falling away from faith in Christ.
@@1234567mrbob First, there is no Hell, there is the Grave. The Book Of Revelation is where we see the Lake Of Fire, imagery, and that's where "The Beast" will be tormented, no one has been able to pinpoint exactly who the Beast is. Speculation is that it was Emperor Nero, who was described as the Antichrist, but, could he have been The Beast?
Sorry i think i dont understand you. You're saying that people sin in their sexual field because God doesn't let them find the right partner at a young age and if they don't do now, they will never? And not because they can't control their flesh, and prefer to have sex that wait and satisfy themselves in the Lord? Assuming therefore that sex is better than God? Also i don't get what you don't like of paradise, the opportunity of being with the greatest of all goods even if it is in a cloudy utopia isn't better than anything in earth? Last quesition, what would you think of gay people that try to obey God and therefore remain single all their lives? In the afterlife they can be with someone of their same sex or the desire will disappear and they will never experience having sex because they simply don't get aroused with the opposite sex? What would your take be on this one?
Same thing is happening with me. I've lost my belief in Christianity. What's the point of being married for many years, making beautiful memories together if God separates us in the afterlife for all eternity? My partner is my soulmate, God getting rid of our romantic relationship in the afterlife is beyond cruel. Christianity sucks.

Doesn’t anyone find it odd that this book doesn’t talk about other parts of the world? in the same level of detail,, As it does with the people and the places within the book. I mean this whole thing takes place in the desert,, right? And it’s only really for a certain group of people. Even though the book occasionally would imply the world or infinity in someway or another here and there. But yet it doesn’t talk about natives here in what we now called America. It doesn’t go into detail about the people of Kemet (now known as Egypt). The book doesn’t talk about the people of Indians, eskimos, Hawaiians, the Chinese (or Asian people), people in what is now known as Mexico? For a so-called God, that is supposed to be anywhere and everywhere,, he seems to be geographically limited. By the way, there’s anybody in this book go to the bathroom ever? lol Does anyone ever have acne? Does anyone brush their teeth? I think there’s only a few bits and pieces that talk about washing peoples feet. But that’s about it,, right? No basic every day human stuff.
Christianity is extremely parochial. Conservative Christians dismiss people born into different faiths in other parts of the world who never encounter the Gospel, or who encounter it without understanding its significance, as cannon fodder for Hell, nothing more.
Activation 1111, Good point, I also had same doubts. This book god had watched people spread after the incident of Tower of Babel, but why did he stick with people of Middle East only!? Also those people who saw that language miracles acknowledged there is a “true god” but will go for another gods!? and the ONE so-called true one, who did that miracle didn’t care about them that spread elsewhere, but just cared the ones on M East!? It’s nonsense, after all!😂What this book god if his the truest, should’ve done is, give his words to every single people of different languages in the moment he changed those people’s tongue so that that his words could’ve been preserved in many languages by early stage, and ALL nations and tribes will easily have known who is the true God😅There should’ve been no problem with religion differences and wars!

I don't think I am, I'm simply judging proposed gods the same way I do everyone else. If Kristi said she'd created a torture chamber and planned to throw me in unless I believe she's always nice, I'd have problems with it. When someone says a god is making the same threat, I still find the threat immoral. I didn't get my belief that no-one is above question from Kristi.

"before you can judge". Why would I need to form opinions about people in a specific order? I'm not simply going to assume ANYONE is acting ethically when the available information portrays them as a monster.

29:17)." I never understood that verse about dogs before. Now, I understand it well. It is very clear now. Thanks, Kristi. Great work.
“It’s just pet dogs, not wild dogs” oh wait isn’t that worse?
@@letsomethingshine No.
@@wolfofthewest8019
Any Jew would refer to someone of the Davidic dynasty as a son of David. Your interpretation is pure garbage.
@@thedude9941

This is why you must read the word in the spirit! Reading from a carnal mind will cause you to misunderstand the spiritual meanings of it all. The Messiah wasn’t saying to hate your family as in wishing harm upon them or being rude to them. Hate meant to be able to turn away away from them or their actions if they put you in a position to where you are in opposition to the Creator.

Interesting
Yeah, those are some bad ones, too. Christianity claims to be about "family values," and yet Jesus wasn't exactly a fan of the family. I sympathize with the pigs in that story, too. What did they do to deserve having demons implanted in them and driven to suicide?

I’m not Buddhist but Buddha wisdom and insight walks circles around Jesus. In Buddhist scripture not one word of violence , intolerance , hatred etc is found anywhere at all

I agree that Buddhism is good for encouraging people to think for themselves, and for nonviolence (usually). But Buddhism, similarly to the issues in this video, can also be family-hating and victim-blaming. The Buddha named his son Rahul, which means fetter (shackles/ankle chains).
It's so funny you mentioned "the red letters". That was my last stop on the train out of Christian-Town.
I'm one of those people who has never been able to understand the Bible all that much, but I can see where some people might not get what's going on here. Before you explained it the way you did, I didn't think of it that way. Your way makes much more sense to me.
Long comment, yes, but interesting to me.
@GTGforeveror you can heal the eye

Thanks for addressing this issue! It's very important. It was the last domino to fall, for me. I had already realized Jesus wasn't divine, but I still thought of him as a great moral exemplar. Not so much! For more info, people should consider reading David Madison's "Ten Things Christians Wish Jesus Hadn't Taught" or Hector Avalos' "Bad Jesus." They give many more examples along the same lines. We grew up with an idealized picture of Jesus -- good shepherd, kind and all-loving, all-merciful.
Criticizing Jesus Christ is like a person with a broken back who does not have the humility to ask for help . That’s madness !
Here's another one along the same line as "forsake your father".
Matthew 12 starting at vs. 46:
⁴⁶While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside wanting to speak to him.
⁴⁷Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside wanting to speak to you".
⁴⁸He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"
⁴⁹Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
First of all, to me this shows disrespect for his mother. We are told to honor our parents, yet here he is almost denying his family and saying that those who "do the will of his father" are his family. I found this passage troubling for a long time. To me it sounds like "follow me at all cost, and even at the expense of obeying the Torah".

From one answer on hermeneutics stackexchange for question “Jesus' command to hate your father and mother in Luke 14:26”
“From highly contested Aramaic Primacy wing, Christopher Lancaster, in his Concise Compendium offers the following insight on page 57, under subtitle number 7 "hate" or "put aside"
The answer lies in the Aramaic word [transliterated] sone'
sone' to put aside to hate to have an aversion to
So with this in mind, the more correct translation of Luke 14:26: "If any man comes to me, and doesn't put aside his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."”
I would add to this that in Matthew this passage is written as: “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” Mt 10:37 so we have independent source from disciple of Jesus, that understands this passage in very similar meaning as “to put aside”
I recommend to check responses to that question (unfortunately youtube blocks comments with direct link, butwith name of question you can find it immediately).
So basically, this passage has nothing to do with command to honour your father and mother, rather that you have to put God above anything from this world.

And a person's enemies will be those of his own household."_*
Why?
Also, gods and demi-gods, a hybrid offspring of human and divine.

Judas Priests fantastic song titled 'Painkiller" states it perfectly. Bible-toters are By far in the most PAIN searching for a 'He" that never existed (totally proven btw) to cure it., hence why they've slayed/killed the most in history(through today) via inquisitions/crusades..And They believe in the lies of de-ath the most (hence why they need a guy who never existed to do it for them), hence why they've slayed the most, more than ALL the other Rel-igions combined, and MANY times over.. As truth is ALWAYS paradoxical.
The Divine light of Rock and Metal music always told the truth !!
Good job of getting to the main reason why, as a young boy, I was confused and couldn't jump on the Christian train. Too many contradictions!
Exactly! Remember Jim Jones! He ordered the same thing. Seems to be something cult leaders do
YUUUP!!!
just like Moses. they all died following him
Here is another one that is a real kicker for me, and was the cause of monumental anguish causing me to fall away for many years.
Thank you for all your fantastic videos with great research. 📹 ❤️
it takes a certain amount of privileged haughtiness and disdain to basically tell a stranger that his/her beliefs are inferior and wrong.
that’s essentially what proselytizing christianity is.
Google search de ting.
So you basically just did the same thing?

Does anyone in Shakespeare's plays ever go to the bathroom?
I don't find it odd at all. It's the product of people living in that area, with very limited knowledge of the other parts of the world.
@@tonybuck1225 Shakespeare wrote plays to earn a living by entertaining his patrons and Londoners. He wasn't writing a salvation story which (supposedly) is required reading (and to believe) for every single person on Earth otherwise they burn in Hell for eternity...
Slight difference there.
