  • Today, we're hitting the road and have an interesting story about the suspension on our motorhome. Because of a weird issue with the Roadmaster chassis, we installed a Watts link suspension system that helps stabilize the axle. We're also getting our windshield replaced!

    I knew some of the reason's history but this was great! We purchased our dynasty last year and the original owner had one of the original prototypes of the watts link for the roadmaster chassis installed, however it was missing the center bolt/bushing. Found one of the folks on the forums who was a part of this who had some of those spare bushings and bolts around and sent them to me at shipping cost! amazing people out there!

    Love our 2020 Tiffin Breeze 33BR with independent front suspension. Tracks perfectly straight with no modifications and 33’ we can fit in just about every state park across the United States while traveling in style.

    Thank you for the very thorough coverage of the chassis and steering issue. My Monaco Yorkshire, at 47k miles, apparently does not have enough wear for the problem to show up, but I am so appreciative to know what the solution could be. And ... my windshield is "new" (previous owner), but it is nice to know my gasket is not the only one to leak. To help prevent leaks when stationary, is to make sure that the rubber gutter just above the gasket is completely clean.

      Hopefully you dont experience it, some do have the panhard in a slightly different place and don't have as much problem, but yep a good solution. Good Idea on the gasket, turns out our original gasket was not glued in properly and had gaps, the leaks swelled the dash and caused the crack.. all fixed up now!

    Really cool to see the results of the Watts Link. I got to test out one of the first prototype "cross bars" prior to the watts link development. The watts link came into development due to the space constraints for the original cross bars and the panhard rod you mentioned. I've been long departed from the Monaco world or forum. An awesome guy named Vanwill (forum name) was one of the main contributors that started the movement.

      Cool history! Yea the watts link is really about the room available in there. Crazy Monaco never figured it out.

      I was just going to post the same info until I read your post. I know Van and the guys who first developed the Watts Linkage for the Roadmaster chassis. I have a 45 ft '05 Exec and in fact my coach was the very first Monaco coach with a tag axle that had the rear cross bars installed on it and I bought it from Dave who worked with Van on developing and testing this system. I could never understand hearing about people commenting that they would get blown around by crosswinds and big trucks passing them because our coach drives just like my F-150 that I tow behind it. BTW, I like your graphics as I was trying to include something like that in the video I made about our coach. Oh yeah, we took our coach over to RV Glass Solutions in Lakeland also last year to get our windshield reset. Richard was great to work with. Safe traveling and stay healthy.

    Do you miss towing the fifth wheel? Also, what dually truck would you go with today if you pulled another fifth wheel? The ram 3500 again or a f450?

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  9 месяцев назад +3

      There are pros and cons to all rigs, and yes sometimes we miss the fifth. They are both really good trucks, ford really figured out their engine recently so Im not afraid of it. Biggest benifit of the 450 is the turning radius, which might be worth is. But the factory air assist and nicer ride of the ram 3500 is huge too. Really so many factors, gotta try them both and decide for yourself.

      @MortonsontheMove .. biggest issues still with Ford is CP4 fuel pump.
