This weekend I enjoy in the Eifel (DLFF-0003). During the videos for the new telescopic antenna I just test 2m indoor. It was absolutely nice. 13 contacts made.
Cool as usual! I did some 40 contacts on 2m yesterday evening, several DL stations, but with 80W and yagi... Would be nice to have you in my log some day! However, one QSO was unique - CW 1296 MHz, 150 km, without any previous skedding, only 2W, standing on my balcony, antenna in one hand, CW key in the second... Punk's not dead! >:-)
It's a real shame, given that Lithium batteries are around a long time now and so good these days that Yaesu failed to upgrade from outdated NiMh which as a consequence means that the radio can only output around 2.5 watts with the internal battery. I do hope Yaesu come up with a new QRP radio that can output at least 5 watts with the internal battery, though these days there really is no reason a radio can't output 10 watts because batteries are so good now.
@@QRP.lifestyle Since my last reply I got the 818 and love it, having a blast with it. I love the form factor, being able to hang it around my neck and work pedestrian mobile is really cool. It's tiny and incredibly robust. Leather pouch on the way too. yes on the 817 you can get 5 watts, on the 818 it's 4 watts max with internal NiMh battery. I have the windcamp battery coming next week so should greatly improve things and probably allow me the 6 watts.
Awesome David!, keep going. 73' PD5RVL

Yes it is a shame but 5W is possible with internal battery!
If it's flashing it is 5W
