    Okay, gang, as this comments section is going strong right now, I have an unrelated question. (Although, this vid couldn't have been posted on a better day, as I was on edge all day and looking for a fight of some sort.)
    I'm referencing a very important character in Rauha, and I was wondering if you guys - particularly those of you in, or with ties to, that region - could give me a hand?
    What is a good name for a Finnish male? I looked at some online lists, but I have no idea which ones are truly indicatively Finnish and which ones are more ancillary... I don't mean that the name needs to be the most popular, just one a Finnish person would likely be familiar with.

    • @pspublic13
      @pspublic13 4 года назад +12

      No, he was not a coward for not standing up for the sacrifice. He was a coward for his later choices in life selfishly sacrificing OTHER shinobi for his cause instead of sacrificing himself for the shinobi cause.
      And he was a coward for giving up on fixing his flaws. It is one thing to be flawed yet acknowledge their existence. It is another to admit your flaw and then not only never try to fix it but to double down on the flaw for every life choice to come.
      So he was definitely not a coward in the flashback but he was the biggest worst kind of coward for the rest of his life.
      The hate from the fandom is exceptionally well deserved.

    No Curtis, you're missing the point with Danzo. Danzo always looked up to the Second Hokage because he was his teacher and his hero. Danzo wasn't blessed with the same unwavering courage or talent that Hiruzen was, and he resented himself for it. Danzo did truly love the Hidden Leaf village in his own way, and only wanted to prove himself as a sworn protector of the will of fire. Of course he was an asshole and the things he did were underhanded and seemingly selfish, but he did deep down have the best intentions at heart. Over the years Danzo became the way he did to be the Yin to the Third Hokage's Yang. He knew he could never be what Hiruzen was for the village, so he tried his best to be what Hiruzen could not be. Deep down, Danzo really did do everything for the village, and if nothing else he did it to prove to his beloved teacher Tobirama that he was worthy of carrying on his will of fire. Say what you will about Danzo, because he is a massive cunt, but he's also a tragic and relatable character.

    Let me say something in defense of Danzo: his character is perfect. Fist of all: he is a legitimate
    badass. Second, he does what a ninja should do: he operates in the shadow.
    When we watch the anime (or read the manga) we see the world through
    the eyes of Naruto, which is basicly a naive boy, so we obviously hate someone like Danzo. But
    Danzo is not just a shinobi. He is a politician, he MUST play the long game. He experienced all
    the three great ninja wars, he knows how the world works better than Naruto does. Let's be honest:
    the idea of exterminating the Uchihas was not wrong. The village was on the verge of a civil war,
    he had to be tough. Yes, of course, he exploited the opportunities and took the Sharingans to
    become stronger. So what? The whole anime is about getting stronger. He worked with Orochimaru just
    like Sasuke did. Yes, he wants to put his hand on the Nine Tails. Ok guys, lets think about it. In
    Naruto's world the Tailed Beasts are a sort of nuclear weapon. And who has the control of the nuclear
    weapon of the Leaf village? An edgy teen. Oh wow guys. Is he wrong when he desires to control the
    Fox? Mmmh, nah, i don't think so.
    And lets be honest for the second time: his order (as Hokage) to kill Sasuke is
    perfectly understandable. After all Sasuke is a rogue ninja who betrayed his own village.
    The idea that the whole world should act according to the feelings of that screaming bitch called
    Naruto is just senseless. Yes yes, i know, Naruto wants to do what Jiraya teached him. But this
    changes nothing. Naruto is not right because he is the main character. Danzo is not wrong just
    because he does not follow the teaching of another shinobi's sensei. In fact the idea that
    killing Sasuke could start a circle of revenge is ridicoulous. The Leaf village doesn't give
    a damn about Sasuke. Shino, Shikamaru, Sai, Yamato, Choji & Co. don't really care about Sasuke.
    Have you ever seen one of these character ever care about Sasuke? No. The only
    characters who really want him back are Naruto and Sakura. Stop. What circle of revenge? Just kill
    the traitor and let those two cunts cry, they are not the center of the world.
    And in the end Danzo shows that he is willing to sacrifice himself for his own village, while
    Naruto wants everyone to sacrifice their interests because he wants to have sex with Sasuke.
    The idea that Kishimoto wants to give us is obvious: the separation between the good guys and
    the bad guys is very unclear. And this message is perfect with Danzo. And when he dies the fans say
    .
    C'mon guys, seriously?
    I'll press F to pay respect.

    U r missing point here. Danzo didn't used Itachi to kill his whole clan to only obtain Sharingans. He needed Itachi cuz Uchicha clan wanted to take over Konoha and that could bring next war in which Konoha would lose. He just used the fact that whole Uchiha clan was eliminated to get more powerful to become strong enough to defend Konoha no matter the cost. He is kinda psychopatic but all in sake for Konoha. And Itachi chose by himself to make that move. Danzo tried to manipulate him about talking shit about Sasuke safety but that was only obvious that if Uchiha would try to take over control Sasuke would be put in danger.

    See, I LOVE the character of Danzo. Danzo is a product of his age and is honestly one of the most realistic people on the show. People look up to idealists, those with morals, the heroes willing to self sacrifice. But Danzo understands that dead heroes are meaningless and words can only take you so far. As Sarutobi rose to power, Danzo rose above himself and weaponized his cowardice. While Sarutobi went on about peace and love to the people, Danzo sat in darkness and did what had to be done. He assassinated enemies, protected borders and identified every threat. Even going so far as to turn those threats back into assets at times. He did the dirty work nobody else was willing or able to do. All so Sarutobi could rule and the people could live in peace. As much of a dick as Danzo was, everything he did, he did for the village, even if it was wrong. And he died trying to save it

    • @AmaneKoruba
      @AmaneKoruba 2 года назад +2

      The ends don’t justify the means, the “dirty work nobody else was willing to do” included stuff that did not need to be done at all. Allowing innocents to be killed, brainwashing and killing innocents himself, experimentation, making people suffer, and so much more heinous acts. He caused more trouble and pain for the leaf than any good. Even if the intentions are there, it doesn’t matter. He was doing things the villains were doing but too underhanded to show himself doing it.

  • @lewd2851
    @lewd2851 6 лет назад +52

    No. The reason people hate Danzo isn't because he couldn't muster up the courage to basically go commit suicide, nobody can blame him for doing that. Being unwilling to give up your own life is something that shouldn't ever be considered a bad thing. It's a basic survival instinct.
    The reason people *do* hate him is because of what he did afterwards. Now i know you're already aware about making Itachi kill his clan and then afterwards stealing their eyes and working with Orochimaru to gain their power, or maybe the lesser known facts that he was responsible for Naruto being always alone and for Nagato's pain. However there is one more thing he did that involves Shisui that was hinted at during this episode, but never fully explained.
    Shisui was known as the greatest genjutsu user ever, because his Mangekyou's ability, Kotoamatsukami was able to completely rewrite a persons thoughts on something permanently. For example you could convince someone to serve you forever, or convince another person to kill everyone they know etc etc.
    The original plan to stop the Uchiha coup was for Shisui to use the Kotoamatsukami on the entire clan and convince them to work with the Leaf. However Danzo fearing that Shisui was going to use it against him and wanting it's power for himself, tricked Shisui into a meeting and stole one of his eyes, but Shisui escaped with the other, and later committed suicide so that Itachi could awaken his own Mangekyou.
    So basically, the entire Uchiha massacre could've been avoided had Danzo not been a piece of shit. Pain's attack could've been avoided as well.
    And before anybody starts screaming SPOILERS!!!!, no it's *not* spoilers. This was only full revealed in one of the games, or partially in one of the fillers which Curtis skips. So don't crucify me.

      I always hear people say that had he let Shisui use the genjutsu on the clan that it would have solved everything. I mean, how guaranteed was this plan to be successful? What if future generations of Uchiha decide to rise up again? Shisui only has so many eyes and a decade in between each use. I mean, I love the series but what I love more are the gray characters, and Danzo is one hell of a gray character.
      He uses underhanded schemes but you saw how his and the village elders decided that extermination was the better option, but they didn't kill ever Uchiha and that lead to problems later on for the village. I can't see how letting Shisui use his jutsu would solve the problem 100%. There was no certainty and instead of the issues we have now, it would have been something different.
      And let's not forget, there were problems with people hating on the Uchiha as a clan just because of the Police Force and tension would still arise.
      My only question is, if it was clarified in databooks or the series, how long Shisui's Kotoamatsukami lasts? Because making every Uchiha decide to not start a coup and work with the Leaf is a tall order, and if the effects were permanent, then I can see that somewhat being a choice to go with...just...realistically, would I trust it? Would Danzo and the others trust it? Nah. Still, it's a harsh ninja world filled with war and battles and tough decisions. This is why I get behind Danzo rather than Naruto and his Talk no Jutsu.

    • @JKSSubstandard
      @JKSSubstandard 4 года назад +1

      I see where you are coming from, but you have to remember Danzos character. As established here, hes a coward. He weaponized his cowardice into paranoia for the sake of the village. While Sarutobi took risks, made friends with enemies, trusted people to be good, Danzo was paranoid for the sake of the village, killed opponents, wiped out threats and eliminated risks before Sarutobi could take them. If there was even a hint or thought in his mind that Shisui would not go through with the plan Danzo was going to take that into account and act on it. In that paranoia of "the uchiha are about to attack" would you hedge your bets on an uchiha with amazing power , still loyal to the clan, to use it in your favor? Or would it be safer to take that power and use it yourself? Danzo always went safer. The only reason he trusted Itachi was that he knew Itachi valued the village over family so long as his brother was safe, and so he pressed that button to test Itachis loyalty before the order was given.

    I actually don't hate danzo. I do like him in a way. I did at the beginning but him sacrificing himself for the village, made it really hard for me to hate him. But rewatching the series also reminded me of the shitty things he's done. Danzo is a tricky character for me cuz I know he wants the best for the village but I think he did also want power for himself. But I think the main reason he was always "pissy-pants" as Curtis calls it (good description btw😂), was more so because he wanted to be like hiruzen. Idk just my thoughts. What do you guys think of danzo?

      He have good objectives, but bad methods. He wasn't just manipulating Itachi, he truly believes that the Uchiha would destroy the village. I think he is not a hero, he is a coward that wants to do the right thing, but just can't cuz his ideology isn't accepted

    • @kazamirro6705
      @kazamirro6705 6 лет назад +9

      I'd say Danzo was doing it all for the village, he always took the power for himself because he just couldn't trust others to use that power wisely e.g. Shisui's sharingan. He didn't believe Shisui's kotoamatsukami would work on the uchiha and that jutsu was also a great threat towards the leaf, he just wanted to make sure that kotoamatsukami wouldn't be used against the leaf, and so decided to take it, just like other ninja who do not trust tail beasts and seal them. Danzo strongly believed in "if you want something done right, do it yourself".

      If Danzo didnt order Itachi to kill the clan, the Uchiha would've started their coup which would have gone one of two ways. One- The Uchiha succeed after a bloody coup, decimating the village leaving it open for another village to attack. Two- The Coup fails and is still extremely bloody and leaves the village open to an attack.

    Jiraya: "The true measure of shinobi is not how he lives but how he dies..."
    Itachi: "We don't know what kind of people we truly are until the moment before our deaths. As death comes to embrace you, you will realize what you are."
    It might have been at this point inevitable that he'd die, but he still tried to take out the two biggest threats to the Leaf and Shinobi world. He was a true shinobi of the Leaf. And before somebody says I'm defending him, he is 4th on my personal list of most hated fictional characters. I'm just stating a fact.

    Danzo was a true ninja to the end. And that's not me respecting him, at all.
    Just like a true ninja, he operated in the shadows.
    Like a true ninja, his main weapon was information, stealth and backstabbing, like he did to Shisui, to the Uchiha, to Hiruzen more than once, tried to do to Orochimaru and did to Tsunade, then tried and failed a last time to do it against the 5 Kage.
    Like a true ninja he was a coward, not a warrior. Yes, some ninja knew how to fight but getting away with their life and stolen intel was the #1 priority on their list.
    And it is exactly because of being a true ninja that Danzo was such a piece of shit.
    Naruto is a romanticized and fantasized story, where Ninja is a profession of true warriors who hold their honor high up and fight in all out wars to protect their land. This adds characteristics like pacifism, friendship, honor, nobility, self sacrifice, compassion and understanding for one's enemy; characteristics that, while I'm sure many ninja *had* in real life, really wasn't necessary or even desirable for their profession.
    Danzo seems to have been based on One Piece's Marshal D. Teach, who was created about 5 years before Danzo was. The same we can say about ninjas in Naruto can be said about pirates in One Piece: there, pirates don't usually plunder, hardly any of them rape, murder is always so low on their list of priorities that most of them would rather make fun of a downed enemy than kill them. In One Piece, just like in Naruto, being a pirate is romanticized to being a person who's always looking for freedom and breaking free of the shackles of the tyrannical World Government.
    But in the whole world of One Piece there is a character that is 100% a pirate. He has murdered his way to his powers, mutinied against his crew and captain, killed his former crew mates, pillages around like a motherfucker and if you don't think he raped Bonny like a hundred times you need to read some chapters again.
    In a show about pirates, he's the only "real world pirate" around. Just like in a show about ninja, Danzo is the only "real ninja around".
    *AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE VILLAINS*
    Real pirates didn't put their friends above everything else; they didn't set sail because of dreams of finding exotic and fun islands, and didn't stop every time they found a fascist government to kick the governor's ass and give the land a taste of their freedom. *Those* redefined pirates are the ones that are likable in One Piece.
    Just as so, ninja didn't live for honor. They didn't seek respect from their peers and laid their lives down for their friends, they didn't worry about the future ninja generations and didn't strive for improving their fighting skills as a badge of pride. *Those* are the redefined ninja are the ones that are likable in Naruto.
    Danzo was a true ninja to the end. He murdered, cheated, killed literally dozens of people to forward his political power just a little bit, he plotted to turn family against family with false information and assassinating key members, then took the spoils of the massacre to increase his own power. He never fought when victory wasn't 100% a certainty or when backed to a corner, he lied constantly, he betrayed his friends for more power and information and in the end he ran away until being cornered, and only then killed himself to avoid information and power being taken by his enemy.
    Danzo was a *true ninja* to the end. That definitely doesn't make him a good person, in fact I myself consider him the second most evil character of the Naruto Universe (haven't read Boruto so maybe he gets further down). But two things you can always say about him: he was a true ninja, and he was one of the best written characters of this show.

      It's just the scenario at the time, they were still in the midst of battle and young individuals and sometimes nerves and anxiety and fear overtake them. It wasn't that Danzo didn't want to do it, it was that his body couldn't let him speak up, and when his strength came back he was finally able to voice his intentions.
      It always was a competition with him and Hiruzen, but he was a legit ninja with the ninja ideals.

    All the way up to this point, the show has been trying its hardest to make Danzo as hateable as humanly possible. However, in this fight, pretty much every thing he says to Sasuke is completely on point.
    Yes, being a Ninja IS about toiling in the shadows, doing shady stuff to benefit your master. It's not supposed to be this noble and heroic affair all the protagonists are treating it as.
    And yes indeed, Sasuke is an immature brat switching from one tempter tantrum to the next whenever the plot needs him to switch allegiances

I can see some good qualities in him, but overall I think he is more of a villain.

      He pretty much caused all the pain in Naruto and Sasuke's lives. He told everyone that Naruto had the nine tails even though it was supposed to be a secret and he ordered Itachi to kill his family making Sasuke the way that he is. He took Shisui's eye and worked with Orochimaru. This guy was no hero because even without him the village still survived.

    Danzo... the coward? He sacrificed his own life to take out the two greatest threats to the Leaf village. You completely misinterpreted that flashback because of your bias. It's called character development. He did what he couldn't do before. You also forgot the biggest reason Danzo had Itachi kill the Uchiha was to stop the coup. They were going to try to destroy the Leaf. Taking the sharingans was just a happy consequence for him.
    Seriously, Danzo could have been an amazing character portraying the nature of shinobi, but instead he just became the thing to blame everything bad that ever happens on.
    Granted, I know how you are at this point. You just say dumb shit on purpose to piss us all off. Guess it worked on me this time lol you got me.

      But if it weren’t for Danzo, Shisui Uchiha would have stopped the coup himself and avoided the entire massacre. But Danzo stopped Shisui and he was supposed to give him a chance before they went with Itachi slaughtering them all. Danzo might have had the best interests for the village, but he ultimately became what wasn’t the best for the village. He had to go, but he was under his own idea that he was what was best, when in truth, he became the biggest threat for the Leaf.

    • @samsizer2919
      @samsizer2919 6 лет назад +8

      There's no way all those Sharingan weren't a motivator though. He sacrificed his life, sure, but he completely failed at taking them out. And he only sacrificed it after trying to run away like a bleeding bitch. Only when cornered like a rat did he try to salvage something resembling a noble ending... and he failed at doing anything with his sacrifice. The 2nd and 3rd Hokages at least did something with theirs. Danzo's "sacrifice" just saved him from anymore pain he may have ended up suffering at Madara and Sasuke's hands - and he only did it when he was absolutely fucked and cornered. His first instinct was to RUN AWAY, just like when he was a kid. I don't see the character development.

Danzo did what he thought was right in spite of his own craven nature. Ever heard saying "True courage is not absence of fear, but ability to act in spite of fear"? He feels like the only human character in the sea of trope collages. Thats why people tend to play devil's advocate for him.

    What is the jutsu at the end:
    The reverse tetragram jutsu of danzo at the end was so dangerous because everything the black sphere comes in contact with will be sucked in Danzos corpse and will inevitably be sealed. Just to answer the question, why madara was so scared of this.
    Thats why there was no Explosion sounds and why the bridgeparts disappeared

    Every thing Danzo did was correct from the villages point of view, he served it until death and he served it well.
    His job was to hunt rogue ninja, he did that with the anbu blackops, he also sniffed out a coup d'etate and quenched it, taking his enemies powers as a trophy and as a weapon.
    He kept the village running from the shadows, did all the dirty work, he also tried to contain the leaf's greatest weapon (Naruto) yet failed due to not seeing eye to eye with his detractors.
    Danzo as a character has so much dept to him than just good and evil, and the author portrayed it at the end for everyone who didn't grasp it. Danzo was the Yang to the Yin, he died a patriot and a hero. Rest in anime peace.

  • @cpMetis
    @cpMetis 6 лет назад

    And this is why I fucking love Danzo. He's a coward, he knows it, he hates it. What's more, basically all he does for the rest of his life was heavily influenced by Tobirama (2nd Hokage)'s last words to him.
    In many ways, Danzo is to Hiruzen (3rd Hokage) what Tobirama (2nd) was to Hashirama (1st). Hiruzen and Hashirama saw love, understanding, and diplomacy as the best way to save the world. Meanwhile, Tobirama and Danzo saw intrique, decete, and control as the way to protect it.
    The difference lies here: Tobirama was strong and would take on anything in the open; Danzo was a cowerd who had to work in the shadows.
    They both held their "light" (Hashirama/Hiruzen) grounded in reality. They were the *root* that nourished the tree on which the leaves waved in the wind. At the same time, their partners acted to lift them up and act as a check.
    The problem, in both cases, is that they went too far. Danzo moreso than Tobirama. Danzo's actions garunteed the Uchiha masacre (though he's not necessarily wrong in saying it could not be avoided, and he didn't cause the coup itself) and bred the Akatsuki. He also harbored and aided Orochimaru, enabling him. Tobirama, on the other hand, basically caused the 2nd Great Ninja War through his imperialist policies and bull-headedness. He also created the reanimation jutsu that Orochimaru had taken into his own. And that's just what I know, who's to say there isn't more? And that's just talking heat we know so far.
    That's why I love his last words. He tells Saru (3rd) to be the Hokage and lead, and tells Danzo to be the ground, to be the Tobirama to Hiruzen's Hashirama. And Danzo just takes it too far.
    I'll cut off here, since this comment is getting long, but you get my point I'm sure.

His intellect even surpasses shikamru's who is a genius strategist but needs time in order to come up with a strategy to defeat his opponent while Sasuke can observe, analyze, and then strategize all while in the fast pases heed off battle which is what he did with Danzo and for that Sasuke is a GOAT

    You know what I always thought? Danzo, though unsuccessfully, was trying to be a leader like the Second Hokage Tobirama, the only man he ever truly respected as a superior. He thought that Tobirama was everything a Hokage should be, kind and gentle, strong and inspiring, yet capable of becoming hard-hearted when needed, unlike Hiruzen who couldn't bring himself to that. Danzo believed that from Hiruzen to Minato and Tsunade, the Hokages were too soft compared to the 1st and 2nd. So in his own way, Danzo was trying to be like his old teacher, but went too far and ended up being ridiculed and scrutinized for it.

    dude are we just not gonna talk about how Danzo got the last minute save ? like yeah he didn't do anything heroic like Itachi or something, but no matter how twisted and sociopathic and corrupt he became he really wanted the best for Konoha ... even if that means controlling it in a totalitarian regime ... and most importantly, even tho he hated Hiruzen for being better than him, he still respected and even admired him very very much, and recognized his talent and power ... overall w very realistic character, not just plain evil ... that flashback certainly wasn't enough to make me like him, but it was enough to make me hate him less, and even feel sympathy for a minute ...

  • @Metrion77

    Danzo always felt he couldn't go far enough, overcompensating for his crippling fear of death. A lifelong rival of the third hokage, he constantly felt that peace and demilitarization and diplomacy were weakening the village. Danzo spent his entire life making connections and networks to strengthen the leaf and push himself and other military leaders into political power. It came to a head when the third hokage died to Orochimaru in a military assault, and instead of a military leader, they choose a doctor who is practically a pacifist compared to the third hokage. Danzo and Root decided that there was no greater way to help the leaf village than to get Tsunade fired and Danzo replacing her.

  • @dannybob42

    Madara didn’t need to step in really, Sasuke was always in control of the battle.
    Danzo made the ultimate mistake that Sasuke wouldn’t shoot through Karin to kill him, and Karin made the mistake that Sasuke cared for her safety over Danzo’s death.
    We get a snippet of Danzo’s past, his tutelage under Tobirama, the second Hokage and Hashirama’s brother, and his rivalry with Hiruzen, the Third Hokage, which he still held a grudge towards even up to his death.
    But instead of dying by Madara’s hand, Danzo kills himself trying to take them with him, which of course goes as well as Deidara’s attempt. But now the Bastard’s dead, although his bastardy lives on

    • @LunaticThinker
      @LunaticThinker 6 лет назад +15

      He didn't only killed himself to try and kill Madara. The right eye he stole from Sishui is VERY powerful and the last thing he wanted was for it to fall into Madara's hand. The seal he used to kill himself will make sure Madara doesn't get to pick this eye from Danzo.

    Now there’s a death mirroring the flashback. I did enjoy hearing Danzo’s last words though.
    I hated just about everything he did in the past, all the shit he instigated or fueled. But at least in this story arc, I was lowkey rooting for him. I liked that he was the 1st to actually bring up a 5 nation alliance despite ulterior motives and I enjoyed seeing the abilities he possessed. (Or maybe I just liked that he had Torune Aburame on his team :P)
    And while I do think Danzo deserved everything he got in this fight, I actually rooted against Sasuke because I hated the latter more (still, props to Sasuke for how well he fought). But Danzo still fought stupidly, underestimated both Sasuke and Tobi, and was a damn hypocrite.

    not to mention, that even if he didn't volunteer for the suicide mission, that wouldn't make him a coward. the vast majority of people wouldn't volunteer for such a thing.

    The issue with Danzo is that, at the very end, he's a character that could exist and makes sense to exist, especially in this context of warring ninja states. In the idealistic world of Naruto, what he does seems worse than it actually is (it's still deplorable) but he's basically like...one of the only true (ninja) of the series in terms of his method.

    Danzo was far from a coward, his character was more realistic than just about any other character. The safety of the Hidden Leaf was his priority no matter what, even if he had to bear the resentment/hate from others. Wanting to be Hokage to do that wasn't a power move for selfish reasons.

    I love that moment with Lord 2nd, he proposed a situation and the obvious answer was for him out of all of them to sacrifice his own life to protect the young like so many other Shinobi have throughout the series, but he proposed this situation as a test to his pupils under him, who ever was also willing to give up their life to protect others was also worthy of becoming his successor. Danzo failed while Hiruzen volunteered and in doing so proved to Tobirama he was worthy of becoming a Hokage knowing he had it in him to protect more then just himself when it came down to it and in the end Hiruzen did even under overwhelming circumstances.
    Danzo no matter what his goal was in the end still put himself first before the village, thinking of only how he could further his own power and roll in the village rather then what he could do to protect it along with everyone else, by the end they try and make you feel sorry for him, realising what happened to him and how he tried to be Hiruzens foundation but in the end he still failed to realise what his roll as an elder of the village should be, to protect the future generation. He could of used a lesson from Asuma Sensei lol.
