- Buttz travels to Belfast to spend one mad weekend with original punk band "The Defects" & their mates, Stiff Little Fingers, XSLF, Buck Eejit, Some Outcasts, Steven VX, the legend who is Terri Hooley, and a cast of over 2,000 at the Ulster Hall. Join us on a tour of the City in a black cab, on a walking tour with Terri & backstage passes to the biggest gig in the City 2014.
Punk and music generally was one of the few things that brought both sides of the political/religious sides together in the early 80s. Keep building on that legacy wonderful people.
Thank you for posting this wonderful piece of Irish punk history
PROPS TO YOU!
I’m old enough to remember the first time round, and still love the music 😍
Really brilliant documentary beautifully captures the spirit of punk in Belfast. I remember the first time I went to Belfast ( October 1982) with my Gran, aunt and cousin and the amount of punks was amazing it was the only place where the true spirit and soul was still burning. Now ironically I'm moving to Belfast.
Many thanks for your kind words. Enjoy your time in Belfast!!!
@@BUTTZTV many thanks I will

These are the Docs that matter When i comes to music, this is a profoundly important film and is well produced A classic film that will likely outlive us all Thank you
Thank you so much for your continued support and I'm so pleased you enjoy all my films.
Enjoyed this immensely. good conversation, entertaining and funny. Cheers to all the Belfast Punx.
This is an essential piece of music history culture . Great that you have documented this captivating , poignant , funny and important scene .John Peel I'm sure would be tipping his hat to the boys and probably would have become good friends if he was still with us . I'm envious of the close Punk family bond they have. RESPECT !
Great to see this!!!
Brilliant stuff, a documentary too treasure.
Really enjoyed that! Wonderful stuff.....so many characters had me smiling, laughing and even crying! Thanks guys!
UK export Sean 'Liar' Maguire sticking his oar in. Always with a cartload of tall stories to hand to accompany the fake Irish accent. Watch the fibber stub his toe and roar out in broad Gloucestershire. Liar, liar pants on fire!
Wonderful documentary
Get up, stand up... don't give up the fight
Would love to see a Scottish punk documentary like this 💯🏴
Is there anyone still alive up there?
@@BUTTZTV8 heard a rumour a while ago that there had been a sighting of the very last surviving scott...and after being alone for years, living a solitary l8fe up in the hills somewhere without any hope of procreating to enable the Scottish bloodline to carry on 😢 and he still wanted to separate Scotland 🏴 from the rest of the UK especially England 🍺🍻
Seen SLF and the Buzzcocks at the Andytown Leisure Centre Belfast, an electric night...will never forget it.
Such awesome documentarie awesome band punk rock not dead 🤟😊🍀 I'm a punk my self respect good punk rock dudes and everyone god bless everyone
Great doc and well put together. Great to see Petsey here, I knew Petsey back in the day when Trenchtown played gigs at the Connor Hall. Great gigs and memories.
There's no stoppin' the man!!
Any music that united people from over the divide is great, promoting peace and love, so important especially for the kids. The message is about salvation and christianity isnt about labels or division. Im so glad that its peaceful now. God bless all whatever side of the divide who are working so hard to stop hate, bombs and killings. They are true heroes. These guys here are fantastic and the gigs unite Belfast and theyre all together having fun enjoying the gig. Rory Gallagher and Gerry mc Avoy, Rod Diath and the other band members always played Belfast and united Ireland and what a brilliant legacy they have like the Cranberries, Delores. I have welsh roots in the main but I share those great human values of no war that unites us and ive always been anti nuclear too and those great women at Greenham. Common in CND were hugely brave and great.
Superb fella's ... would love to get over to one of your gigs at some point in the future. I was a member of ATTAK in the early '80s... you give me thrills all over. We lost Gary Basnet, guitar/vocal last year. A dedication for him at a gig would be an excellent gesture. PUNKs NOT DEAD. Cheers fellas. Woody
REPLY FROM BUCK DEFECT : Hi Woody cheers for yer message sorry to hear about your bassist Gary defo will give him ashout out at our next gig which isnt until Aug that will be the 1st one in 2 years. So not much happnin with one thing or another .. uppa punx
@@BUTTZTV Hi Buck Defect, many thanks for your reply. That would be awesome. Gary's Mrs Lynsey was the drummer of ATTAK who is the sister of Maccy Bass player from Blitz. Gary had contracted MS around 20 years ago hence ATTAK couldn't perform. He passed peacefully last year 2019 and watching the documentary gave me the idea to reach out to you. It's such a good programme invokes great memory esp with the bands that influenced a generation. I watched SLF in Blackburn KGH in the very early '80s and only The Clash superseded their performance. Discharge, Chron Gen, GBH, Anti Pasti, UK Subs, Exploited, Vice Squad, 999 etc became the staple of carrying the flag for PUNK, or Hardcore Punk so watching Buck Defect invokes all of the spirits. Gary was the guitarist/vocalist not the bass player(Chad was the bass player and still not quite dead yet !! ;-) )Good luck guys and many thanks for your time. Ain't no feeble bastard ... Fight Back !!
Hi woody
I really should wear my glasses i see now Gary Bassett and not Gary bassest .. MS is a bastard good friend has it atm ..my mate in australia only this morning posted one of yer records up on fb .. glad you liked the film ..
cheers Buck
@@DoghouseBelfast Haha it comes to us all Johnny Hash ... you ain't putting enough in !! Aye, many thanks for that posting for Gary & Attak. I was glued to the film for its authentic portrayal & feel. Special hearing the SLF from Defects on the acoustic. A genuine buzz about the whole shoot. If you could capture that down on viny !! I spotted all of the post-punk bands on the wall at the studio of my generation and found an honest occasion to remember Gaz and particularly the energy that the young possess. Thanks again Buck. Viva
Zombies.....great album,shit awful cover
Ooooooo my tv sorted tonight !! Not watched this yet !! 💜💜💜
cracking lads
Now that is a bang on documentary, i fuckin love these guys.
Great punk band in the best old school tradition. My old band supported SLF (Lincolnshire) and XSLF (Strummercamp, Manchester). Jim Reilly still cool, not many people can carry on the punk look beyond 50. Also resonates with me cos my Da is a Derry boy. Love the fact that the guitarist is playing an Epiphone not a Gibson Les Paul. Would like to know what pickups he is using?
loved it
Top lads.
I saw The Defects in 1981 at the Apollo in Glasgow the The Exploited, great gig.
Ahh... When they were mere boys....
Great doc but a shame no mention of “Dukie” in the credits
"Dukie" appears in the 100 club movie we made a year later.
love it
brilliant
Did you film all this ? Proper history ❤

What’s the craic with The King’s Hall ? The bigger place just outside the city centre .
Big hall, bigger than what the south had , at the time . Was that used much for music ?
The big groups like Motörhead would have filled it surely ? The Clash ? Status quo ? I know about Beatles and Thin Lizzy doing Kings Hall. Rory Gallagher was king and many of his band mates were Belfast lads but I am not sure that he played at Kings Hall.
Was the Hall expensive to rent - insurance (and people didn’t have money to spend on priced tickets ) or just a bit crap for acoustics or the management looked down on some music ? I am well aware that many of the big big groups didn’t come to the island during the 70s but …
Ulster Hall got a lot of the gigs , along with Queens and Harp bar and later Limelight
Awaits reply from the Belfast Contingent....
Oh yea 👍👍👍👍👍🇮🇪

The whole thing Buck ? BEEZER x
Almost. I kept the best bits back for release when everyone's dead. Lol
It’s great but the defects went missing for thirty years, what were they doing ?

Old punks / stamp collectors and Teddie boys. All lost the fight.. punk died 2020 when all punks fell asleep. Punks teeth fell out with old age. The good old days suck!
Too true... thanks for watchin'!
@@BUTTZTV Hey Buzz, Don't get me wrong. I have been a punk since 1977 . And sang for 4 Minute Warning. Also went round with SLF on one tour .and was getting gigs for Henry Cluney here in Oxford . Love Irish punk , more balls that English. I kow this from being on the road on tour etc..
Love to you , if you got time please check my songs. If you know any one who can offer me a gig , I would love more gigs!
