Im an astros fan and im 100% sure I can speak for both sides. This umpire crew was awful, how are you so bad at your job that you manage to make BOTH teams mad at you? You call a hbp that clearly never touches him, and its such a bad call the Batter who gets a free base in extra innings is more upset about the call than the opposing team??? They review Altuve getting hit, sees it clearly hits him, yet still says its an out. Then you eject him and Espada after he shows proof. Numerous bad calls to both sides this crew was so pathetic they should never touch the playoffs
Padres fan here and I agree. This new generation is disgusting, weak and SENSITIVE. I wonder if this bad calling goes into them getting their union raises. Probably not.
All while having an awful strike zone that will consistently call strikes 2 inches off the top
The Profar HBP call is mind-numbing because the review confirmed it even though at 8:19 he clearly avoids the ball. I don't think Profar was mad at getting a free base I think he's just an honest guy who wants just calls made, not to benefit from mistakes. The other bad calls were just crazy though:
The long delay for the rules check when Hader disengaged not only highlighted the umps' ineptitude, but probably iced Hader (1st pitch went wild, run scored) so even though it was the right call it was a clown show that effected the game.
Ball 4 to Manny, way outside, called a strike helped the Padres since he homered later that PA.
Altuve ejected for trying to prove he was hit helped the Astros since his replacement made the game-ending play that he wouldn't have.

Hah, wow, thanks, forgot Geoff Blum is the Astros color guy now. He played here (Petco park, for the Padres) for a few years, I remember him being a fun guy to watch.
I hate being angry after a win, but damn. Some of the most inept, worst, just baffling bad umpiring I've ever seen.
Padre fan here ... that crew could screw up a free lunch.
I didn't watch the whole game, but it seemed equally bad for both sides. Glad the 'Stros took that one in the end.

This game was definitely the padres vs the Astros vs the umps
June 30th against the Mets...was the last time this happened to Altuve. He fouled the ball off his foot, and then was tossed for arguing. They need to start tossing umpires for getting calls wrong. This is the second time in 2 and a half months.

Altuve taking off his shoe and sock to prove to the Ump that he fouled off his foot is the same energy of when Patrick Beverly grabbed a camera to show the Refs proof that Lebron got fouled 😂

On another note, this HAS to be THE WORST umpiring crew I've ever seen. Altuve was VERY obviously hit by that foul ball & Profar NEVER got hit at all. He was so adamant about taking the at-bat because he knew the ball never touched him.
This game singlehandedly took 20 years off of my life, and the umpiring on both sides really didn't help
Regardless who you were cheering for, the unanimous agreement from both sides was that the umpire situation at the game was horrendous.

Atrocious! Absolutely atrocious. The entirety of the MLB officiating crew needs to be check, evaluated, assessed, fixed etc... This years officiating and umpiring has been an utter disaster. Umpires ruining game after game with horrific calls like we saw in this game, and many soft, pitiful ejections, for exp. the Aaron Boone ejection. What is even more frustrating is the reviews. This is the second time this has happened to Jose Altuve. If Jose Altuve has to take off he damn shoe to show you he's been hit by the ball, then something is clearly wrong. I hope and pray that MLB will look over and hopefully revamp the way their games are officiated. GO STROS!!

Padres fan here, but that was horrible officiating for both sides. Game 1 as well, not as bad as this one, but man majority of the bad calls affected the game negatively.

Pathetic that an umpire has to call New York to verify that a disengagement was indeed a disengagement. The biggest hindrance to baseball is umpiring. Too often their ego and ineptness cause them to be the main story.

What is the point of reviewing a play if you are just going to get it wrong anyway
how can a whole umpiring crew be this bad. takes 3 whole minutes to just find out “oh it’s a pitcher step off”, oh he’s hit by the pitch even though it missed him by 4 inches. HOW CAN YOU BE SO BAD BOTH TEAMS ARE MAD AT YOU IN THE SAME CALL?!?! and ejected Altuve for proving he was hit by the foul.

Other than for the sake of controversy, I will never understand why the MLB allows some plays or calls to be reviewable and others not.
If the crew in charge of calling the game has possibly made an error that could possibly/probably affect the outcome of the game, why limit which plays or possible missed calls can be reviewed?
If a team still has a review left from their given allotment then any call should be reviewable.
And they can save the lame 'tempo of the game' excuse, the umps should know or have easy access to any and every eventuality that can unfold during a MLB game.

MLB's Umpiring Nightmare:
Had absolutely horrific balls and strikes calls the entire game that greatly affected the outcome. Manny would have walked instead of hitting that bomb, and Profar would have gotten the chance he deserved at the end.
Not to be outdone, this SAME crew missed a SECOND foul off of Altuve's foot this season.
And...not to be outdone just yet, whatever staff is in New York clearly needs to be investigated. It wasn't ineptitude that led to the Profar call, but corruption. We can all see clearly the ball wasn't close to hitting him. It was OBVIOUS on the replay. Stop cheating the viewer and players for a quick buck New York / MLB! SOMEONE had money on this game!
So embarrassing. The casual fan has been giving you absolute apes the answers for years: Umpires should just simply be there to read off the calls from the robo ump and manage the flow of the game. This takes significant pressure and stress off of the Umpire and removes the inherent unfairness from game to game due to human error and favoritism. The entire review team in New York needs to be replaced immediately. They have been getting everything wrong all year.

It was a quick switch to when Profar was batting. Tatis was about to be up when the edit came in and then they just showed Profar's at-bat.
That was certainly a bizarre game... It was like the umpires were looking to start fights with both teams and between both teams... Strange behavior indeed

What are the umps requirements to be there? The one behind the plate is definitely not complying with any of them
Many of the issues here would be fixed with competent review system. Tap the head on a bad strike or ball call, review the damn footage if the ball hits the dudes foot. Ask the announcers if the dude had a disengagement instead of a violation since they WATCH the game and knew 5 minutes before they did. Rules check; why don’t you get your eyes checked. Go Padres !!!!

This was one of the worst officiated games I've seen in a long time. Both teams got jobbed on calls at the plate, although the Astros were probably affected more. One guy (Altuve) was actually hit by a batted foul ball but was ruled that he wasn't, while another guy wasn't hit by a pitch but ruled that he was. Unbelievable incompetence, not by just this umpiring crew, but by the NY replay people too. Also, did Granderson get paid by the word? The dude would NOT shut up! Just glad my Stros got the W. GO STROS!!

Why does MLB have to mess with the audio when putting these videos together. That wasn't Tatis who singled in the first inning for the Padres, it was Profar.
I think it was just a quick cut from them talking about Tatis coming up and then the quick switch to the Profar at-bat. This was evident in the video, though, when you could see Profar's name as the batter.
Padres had a chance to win tho…. 2 on base and Arraez, Tatis, Profar, Machado, and Merrill next up? you gotta get a run 🤦

Absolutely hilarious that the Padres announcers didn't say ish about the strike call in the 1st against Bregman but whined like schoolgirls when the same pitch was called on Machado. Compare that to the Astros broadcasters. Also, this crew and NY replay review are terrible and need to be disciplined. That's twice that a glaringly obvious hbp on Altuve has been gotten wrong and then to call a hbp on Profar when both teams agreed there was no hbp.
