Hi Oscar! I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the tutorials you've been sharing. Your passion for techno music has inspired me greatly. Following your advice, I've released a techno album and a single. While I haven't gained millions of followers or made a fortune, I've had the profoundly rewarding experience of seeing people-complete strangers-dancing to my music. That feeling of connection is priceless and means more to me than numbers ever could.
well it's a dub-techno style chord ; in reggae it is called skank or chop and it's played on the second and fourth, while the main beat is on the third :)
The production quality is getting better every week. Love those small comedic bits, had to laugh a few times. Today I have two acid recommendations, enjoy. “A*S*Y*S & Belocca - Macid” and “Alan Fitzpatrick - Acid Changes Everything”.
What I've been trying to say is that a really good Dub Techno Chord can be had by using the notes D#2 F#2 G#2 F#3 G#3 A#3. It's easier in practice than in theory. On a 25 note keyboard from the left, it's black notes: 2nd 3rd 4th 8th 9th 10th. Easy to play and it sounds good. The key would be D# minor, and the chord is, I think, a D#min add 11, for all the theorists out there 😉 It works really nicely with yr Vital patch, so thanks for that 😍
I would like to give you a challenge, most people rely on endless number of tracks, plug ins and sample. I would like to see what you could make if you were restricted to just using Ableton lite with what is available on it, so no extra plugins, downloaded samples. Just the 8 tracks and limited library. Some times less is more and having a limit will make you think what is more important.
1:13 - not necessary! I use model D for stabs quite often, actually more then 70%. You just need to tune each OSC for the chord, you can't have 7th, as it is only 3 OSC, but you can get minor chord with 2 envelopes and 2 LFO's - which will make it interesting, modulating randomly (LFO is not synced) for long time
I’m gonna try apply this idea to different kinds samples of pads/instruments and acoustic sounds, and process it with some adsr and delay to see what happens! Maybe even layering it with an actually synthesized dub
I’m 26 and I’ve been calling these rave stabs/house piano stabs and pads! I’m obsessed with oldskool house and honestly all the genres that emerged around that time, jungle becoming a recent obsession 😅 I learn new terminology all the time from oscar! Love these videos ❤️
@@Bittamin Same here. I'm usually dabbling with old school house, rave and big beat but recently rediscovered early jungle. And now I'm going completely wild on the breakbeats. 😄
As far as I can tell, the difference between house stabs and dub stabs is the modulation on the sound. When I think house stabs, I usually think of more static samples or fm tones/m1 organ. They are part of the same family for sure
I'd say for house (in my head) what typically makes that sound is when the chords are not matching some scale, but are all built from the same intervals (for example, all major chords, sometimes triggered by pressing one note on those old synths), which gives it part of that odd feeling.
hi Oscar! could you maybe show us one day how to make a acidcore-mentalcore bassdrum, or just any kind of video about this specific sub genre? id be grateful and I believe many other people would be too
Also i like to add, that filter envelopes are the second key ingredient to dub chords, especially when the cutoff is way further down ... attack/decay times are essential, they shape the sound the most ... also if you want dub with that real deep bass and also the "correct" harmonic relationship it is best to use d, e or f minor scales and play the subbass in the respective root note. Oh and don´t overdo it with reverb ... open and lush spaces need less reverb than you might think.

also put a LFO to the NOB of your send fx and you will have even lush sound as well
Dub Techno is one of my favourite genres to listen to while studying, learning how to make my own and your videos are perfect!

@@bataabayraabainabataa Thank you more ! Stay lifted ☺️
Firee!! I haven't watched your videos for a while and I've noticed you've gotten better at making them. Loved the radio dj kind of outro!
This is so nice really!!! I love dub techno it’s the soundtrack to my life. No traveling or tripping without it! Stay lifted ❤️
I kinda got the hang of that. Got a nice sound out of it all at all at any rate. Then to watch the 1st video second. Good work man.
You make it look easy when the syncopation is tricky. You’re a genius bro!
I've been waiting for this for so looong! Thank you so much!!!
Great Topic! more of such fundamental techno sound design techniques
I was looking for creating dub chord sounds, and again. Oscar didn't fail me on this matter.

Venus Theory has a video for that.
@@bobtheman1 I will check it out thanks
@@b00ts4ndc4ts You are welcome! It's the "How to get shit done" video.
you continue to be incredibly underrated
Clear, concise, useful. good work!
I love you, man!
So nice lessons and tricks 🔥

The big O strikes again. I can't say how much fun I've been having since doing the Foundations course.

Well i have been saving to buy your course and ableton!
Thanks for this. I'm glad you demostrate with Ableton Live for the videos.
I use air delay pro for the delay duties.
It's sounds awesome.
Brilliant, thank you.
My favourite use of this style chords is 2562 'Aerial' album, check it out for a masterclass in dub chords..
Incredible album.
I was JUST thinking I need dub chords explained to me the Oscar way. Add clairvoyance to your skillset 😂
Man you always read my mind. I was just watching dub techno videos.
I'm so old that I call them "house stabs". 😄
Great video as always!

@@B0K1T0 Yes. That was usually a consequence of sampling one chord from some rich friends synth and then using it forever on your old Akai. 😄
thank you!
More vids on dub techno, groovy Oscar? :3
Man I really love your videos, I learn a lot 🫡🫡🫡 than youuu
mindblown!
i like doing shelves rather than passes, -12 to -24, with varying offset and separation
also gotta use the most colorful delay imo
Is dubby sound coming back? Dubby deep house is my favorite style ever!
It never went away you just have search for the good stuff
ha! 2 chords is already a question-answer scheme here, nice
3:26 Haha I recognise this bass from last video ;D
If you are in trouble just use a minor chord. You can build up a whole carrier on it! :)
i was replying with: "I used A minor a lot in the past" but sounded weird :D
Sooooo geil...
Lucky dubly.. nice one
Niiiiiiiiiiceeeeeee🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ohh God
3:28 😵😵😵
mmmh tastes dubby :D
Chords for dubbies

Hi Oscar! I've tried posting 2 relevant replies so far and they were both deleted. Is this RUclips being arsey, or...?
Hey carl! Certainly wasnt me anyway! Lemme check if they were accidentally flagged as potentially spam
