  • Today we're doing a Ninja Flex Basket Air Fryer review. This new product has what Ninja calls the "MegaZone", which is simply the ability to take out the middle separator to go from 2 baskets to 1. Sounds like a great idea right? Or is it? We tried it out to see if it's worth your money. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Roasting a whole chicken breast side down first is how I was taught. It allows the juices to remain in the breast meat and keep the meat tender. As has been said, you then flip the chicken for the last part of the cook to brown the top. Thanks for the video. I've just ordered this model to replace my AF300, which has given up the ghost. The single draw is a concern, but I like the extra versatility option of a bigger draw when cooking a larger meal. Fingers crossed.

I cook my poultry in my 8 quart Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker/Air Fryer. I pressure cook it to fully cook and then I air fry it for 10 minutes to crisp up the skin afterwards, Most perfect turkey and chicken cooking method there is in my book as well as other meats. The MegaZone wouldn’t work for me on many levels. It’s not really big enough for the chicken, it doesn’t pause cooking if you open the tray and the fact there isn’t an easy way to empty the cooking tray doesn’t cut it for me either. I’ll keep my current gadgets which includes the above mentioned Air Fryer/Pressure cooker as well as my Ninja grill with air fryer which also doesn’t really have an easy way to empty out but I love it for grilling. Thanks for your review. These certainly help me make up my mind about the next generation stuff. I think you were very generous with your rating. I wouldn’t have given it more than a 6.

There are times I will be doing batches of up to 40-60 pieces of chicken, so the big basket is appealing on that angle, but for cooking for just 2 people I'll just need to use just 1 side of the air fryer then.

My first experience with fresh, non-breaded wings is: in the mega basket, they took a lot longer than when cooking the same number with the divider in place. Probably twice the length of time. I was disappointed with that. So now I'm trying to decide whether to return it and replace it with a single basket fryer of similar total capacity. I mean, it's not like it's difficult to just go with the divider and using the 2-zone matching cook.

I would guess not, but it would be a good experiment for sure. I assume you mean using the match cook vs using the megazone feature? My guess is they do the exact same thing... - J

@@TheAverageKitchen Yeah, that is what I was describing. I don't understand why when I cooked wings using the separator it took twice the time. I cooked chicken thighs in it last night, using the match and the separator and they cooked quickly. I've only had it less than two weeks, so I'm still getting used to it. I have had a Turbo XL for almost two years.

      @@Yummi_913 I
I would say It’s only worth it if you are going to be using the Megazone function and if you are going to buy the larger 10.4 litre version. The version that was reviewed wouldn’t cut if for me as too shallow, witness the trouble they had with the whole chicken. The bigger issue with something like this is that if you were using one side for something like fries then you can’t take out the basket to shake them or pour on to a plate as it’s just too cumbersome for that.
Cooking time is a non issue and takes no longer to cook sausages or bake mince pies than other air fryers if your using one side and can’t say there was a noticeable time increase when I used the megazone to cook some large pasties. No other air fryer I am aware of can take a leg of lamb like this product so nothing to compare it to except a conventional oven which, of course, it beats hands down.
If you don’t need the mega one part then Ninja sell the Dual Zone which has two smaller separate baskets and allows you to sync the them like this one does but I have no experience of that.

@@TheAverageKitchen Yes and my point is this isn't a device issue. So it's not really a standout point because no matter what cooking times vary not just by device. By thickness of the cut by weight of the food. There's a lot of factors so to point it out like like it's a specific problem or issue in this device is kind of weird to me. As soon as I heard your criticism I was like you can literally apply that to cooking on the stove top to barbecuing to campfire grills it's not a ninja specific issue, that's just how food works. Times can vary. It's up to the user to know how long something should take to cook
