      I think the problem might be that there are like 20ish Disney princesses and only one black one. It shouldn't be a big deal but unfortunately, it is and I think she did the right thing to avoid the headache that will inevitably come from dressing as Tiana.

    So, as a Cosplayer, I can tell you that the Tiana dress… Oddly enough is a huge subject of debate in certain areas of my calls, play world. I have had the sweetest, kindest, and honestly mixed race friend, make the Tiana dress before. But because she is incredibly pale and white passing, certain sections of the Internet made damn sure to make her feel bad simply for wearing a dress that was “made for an African American character”. She never posted the photos or wore the dress that she made herself ever again. I personally do not agree with that decision, because it feels again like the “false Wackness”, but I’m just here to say that it is a very very divided issue across the board.

    • @crystaljackson7013
      @crystaljackson7013 Год назад +21

      I agree. Very divisive. I don’t have a problem with it as long as she isn’t doing black face. But I could see someone getting angry, since the lack representation means less characters for POC, and that is valid. I think the bride shouldn’t be making her friend do something she is uncomfortable with, especially when she is going to opening her self up for criticism, for a something she doesn’t agree with in the first place.

I don’t think this guy is just “naturally affectionate with everyone,” I think he’s one of those people that gets off on having a harem of women around him that he know have intense feelings for him that he will never reciprocate. He likes feeling like he’s out of their league and he does enough to stoke the fire and keep their interest in him (and off of anyone else) and make them feel like he’s interested as well, but has to also make sure they know that they can’t ever live up to his expectations.

    I mean i feel like in story 2, the OP expressed that she wasnt comfortable with it. And in the end, she is the only person being asked to dress up as a princess with a different race. So i feel like its easy for the bride and the rest of the people to say that she should just go ahead, when shes the one who has to potentially deal with the repercussions of that. And for some reason, i highly doubt they would stick up for her (saying she was expressedly asked to dress as this princess for example) if things got nasty online just based off how blasé they were about the whole thing

It takes a while (and even longer these days) for guys to develop mature enough to consult no one’s tastes but their own when it comes to what hey find attractive in women. Immature guys are much more interested in what their boys think about romantic partners than what they think themselves.

The amount of arguments i see when someone cosplays comic Starfire from the teen titans is crazy. Anyways, there's ways to cosplay or dress as modern versions of black characters without doing blackface and stereotypical actions. They could've compromise and had the style of the dress, or a pin or something to symbolize the different princesses. Like have a magnolia flower or little frog figure in the bridesmaids floral arrangements. So many steps could've been taken.

Secondly, I agree on the suggestion, as I ask myself where the where this situation is going on a scale of cosplay to disneybounding, and just a green dress seems more on the latter end. But it could change for me as planning progressed on just how much the bride planned to push on her to be more like Tiana, but representative accessories is more of an honoring the character move and a fantastic suggestion.

    for the princess dress story I can see where OP is coming from. I feel like once it's posted on social media(cause let's face it, it WILL be posted w/ explanation.) she might be worried about people coming for her or the bride because she's white and Tiana is black. Cosplaying shouldn't matter, but we all know it's not perfect out here. I can understand the worry and feeling uncomfortable if you care what other people will say. And the internet can be VISCIOUS towards people they think are being offensive, even if it's a false sense of "justice". It shouldn't have been a big deal and I think the bride kinda over reacted too, especially when presented with OP's uncomfortableness with the situation and alternatives. Especially if OP is paying for her dress, (which I don't THINK was mentioned in the story) she should have a small say in which princess she wants to be. Honestly weddings make people crazy and sometimes things that shouldn't be an issue are and it blows my mind. I can see both sides as planning one has to be stressful and so having someone raise an issue about something you are set on can make you react badly, outside of your normal personality. But I can also see how OP could be uncomfortable with the possible drama that could result from the idiots of the internet. Cause I'm pretty sure that had more sway over her thoughts than "false wokeness" because I've seen people attack white cosplayers dressing as black characters and vise versa, all of which is stupid, but it happens and sometimes it's easier to avoid even being in that situation.

    Co worker is a weirdo for caring that a man likes the looks of his own wife (as if it’s normal for straight men to think so little of their own spouse….) but also, why is the guy only appreciative of his wife’s looks? And so vocal about it? Both seem really insecure and superficial

      Why does he have to validate any other women’s looks in the entire world except his wife? That’s not insecurity that’s loyalty and that girl needs to go to therapy and figure out why a happily married man’s rejection makes her feel some type of way. Weirdo energy

    while i do agree that 'false wokiness' is the issue, given that twitter is constantly dragging people for doing the wrong culture (clothes/hair/vernacular) i would be more than a little concerned too (ex. think of the Asian community coming to that one ladys defence because she wore one of their culturally important dresses and people getting all ticked off about 'cultural appropriation). extreme wokiness is something the internet is good at. This does seem to apply only to white people, though i dont know why. im more upset about the fat shaming. it is a lot more of a problem of all the stories. That is seriously emotionally damaging

    The first guy IS the asshole.
    The boundry was
    "she doesn't need another father, but you are an authority figure if she ever needs something."
    She needs something.
    He's NOT holding his end of the deal.
    NEVER marry someone with a kid if you aren't prepared to act like a guardian, regardless of if you're required to act as a "parent", if you're a guardian you have responsibilities.
    It's also illegal to allow a child under 11 to be home alone for longer than 30 minutes.
    He wasnt not asked to be a "step father". He was asked to not be a father. Those are two different things; and thus you still have requirements and responsibilities as a step father - not only morally, but legally. HE was also the one who made it a Golf or babysitting thing - she asked if he could baby sit. HE said no because of golf; he put a hard boundry of "she can't come with me" by responding no instantly.

    The thing with the princess story is like they said, it's not a cosplay. Nobody's being asked to do blackface, that would obviously be a problem. It's just a dress inspired by a character.

    Wow I never thought I’d hear about Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo on here 😅 yep. A lot of people in Poland do not know what blackface is and don’t understand the concept of it, probably because we don’t have a history of it. Weirdly enough, what they do in that show is they try to impersonate a singer so they copy mannerisms, singing style, the way they walk, and of course there’s an entire team doing characterisations. So really it’s more of a tribute? Although I think they should just stick to white celebrities 😬

    • @sassnieszka
      @sassnieszka Год назад +2

      Also someone here said it’s cringe and it really is, but I know that a lot of older generations enjoy it for the effort that goes into performances. And I’ve never heard about any of the performances on the show mocking black people, it’s not the point.

    • @aselniczka
      @aselniczka 9 месяцев назад +1

      yeah, not only we don't have history of blackface in Poland, but we are very homogenic society - 99% white. That being said, it doesn't man that Poles can't be racists. Some definitely are. I don't watch the show, but I'm torn by this concept.

    okay I don't know what to say about white people cosplaying as a black characters (without the blackface or anything like that of course) but Tiana and Merida have very different color schemes so I don't think a dress for Tiana would be the same as a dress for Merida, unless bride chose a green dress that's not suited for both characters
    but what's more important, their cosplays will be known, meaning the bride will write on the pictures who is who, tell guests, etc.

    I'm probably not going to make friends by saying this, but I feel like your takes and ideas regarding mariage and weddings are wayyyyy too biased. Saying someone is an asshole for not wanting to wear something because they are uncomfortable (for whatever reason it might be) just because "its for a wedding", and they "can look dumb for a day" because "its for a wedding", is just not okay. Weddings shouldnt bypass consent and respect. I feel like if the context had been an halloween or a birthday party, your answers would have changed and OP would have been "not the asshole". (But I still love listening to you and your podcast, and will continue to listen, even if I don't share your views on mariage ❤)

    The tiana one was dumb...its green dress this is toooo much. Woke culture is wild....also coulda chose another princess with better color than green. Snow white has black hair...this just seems silly. Id just kick her out one less princess.
