- Hi welcome to Cheeky Cheeka! This is my first video on RUclips and being the first episode I thought I should start my new innings by talking about the one of the greatest cricketers I have ever known and played alongside with - Kapil Dev Nikhanj.
I talk about all the memorable moments that I witnessed when Kapil dev went about doing his magic on the cricket field. I also talk about some of those dejected moments that Kapil went through when I was around. I talk about all the special qualities of Kapil and why he once in a generation type of cricketer.
Kapil and I have been close friends for most part of our lives and I tell all of you the way we used to make fun of each other including those funny cricket moments from the historical 1983 world cup. It was a privilege to play alongside Kapil Dev and I m truly blessed to have been part of the world cup winning team of 1983.

Before Kapil motivated the team, they did not believe that they can defeat the West Indians. It was Kapil who drilled self-belief in their minds and see how the team changed after Kapil showed in practice how it is done. Then the team just got charged and defeated every team that came -Australia (by 118 runs), England(by 6 wickets), West Indies (by 43 runs). Even in the final it continued. If Kapil had not caught Viv India's 183 was just going to be a cakewalk for them. That's why it was Kapil Kapil. But Srikkanth got full viewership. Because it was WC final and Gavaskar got out on 2, so the full focus was soon on Srikkanth and Amarnath. The experts enjoyed & appreciated their batting. They used the word "ebullient" for Srikkanth's batting in final.

The first ever die hard female fan for srikkanth was me only..coz those days all gals were only dying for Ravi shastri/ Kapil Dev/ Roger Binny and sometimes Sandeep Patil..i had bought specially exercise note book to carry in all my engg.years with Srikkanth batting photo on cover page..so everyone would look at me differently when i was showing off my book while holding it seperately..lol...it was just highly coincidence that i met personally after a gap of 20 years - that too in unexpected way in a temple for my utter surprise..and thanked god profusely for such a wonderful timing and meeting..thanks a lot srikkanth for your time and energy. Let Srimannarayana protect u always. 🙏🇮🇳🙏

Srikanth is really a first batsman who focuses the importance of getting more runs in first 15 overs of ODI. I used to switch off the TV immediately after he got out. Kapil is a player of Great caliper
Kapil taught Indians the art of playing one day cricket and Dada the art of winning.
True, we got the desire to win only from dadas time. The worst period was during Azhars time when we sort of played without any fire in the belly. Dada showed us the way as to how to fight..
Why do bring dada here, dada lost all the finals here, India is very strong team from 1978 to 85, India beat westindiea in west indies, won World Cup, won champions trophy, balance of team is good, good alrounder, fast bowling attack madan lal, roger Binny, kapil Dev, good spin bowler and good batting line up, India beat Pakistan team every time, from 1986, India team weak due to politics played by gavaskar, madan LAl and roger Binny is retired, only Kapil dev is the faster bowler, there Chetan Sharma replace not effective as madan lal and roger Binny, I still remember India weakest team from 90 to 2000. Only reason is team politics in BCCI due to lot of money came into board through sponsorship, From 2000 BCCI changed the attitude, to bring youngster like yuvaraj, kaif, zaheer khan, India could win matches under ganguly but lost games in finals, Kapil dev change Indian cricket, next is dhoni took Indian cricket to highest level, greatest Indian cricketer is kapil dev and MS dhoni,

As a kid, Cheeka and Kapil were my favorite players! I still remember how depressed I was the day Cheeka announced his retirement from Cricket. I think it was in the year 1992. He was dropped from Indian team after WC’92, and later when he wasn’t picked for South Zone team, he announced his retirement. I had tears whole evening sitting alone in Victoria play ground near chadarghat (Hyderabad). When Kapil announced his retirement in 1994, I thought the whole world came to an end. Couldn’t fathom how life would carry on!

Having a live telecast and having a recording of that match are two different things.
This match does not have any video coverage.
If there is strike, the match should not have happened. If the match happens as per schedule, why the video coverage alone is getting affected by Strike?
This match was of no interest for the broadcasters that time, as India was not a cricket crazy nation that time.

I saw you waiting alone for someone in coimbatore Annapoorna hotel few years back but didn't know how to approach and talk to you. I was mere 8yrs old when 1983 world cup was aired in radios... In remote town in Odisha, people were carrying their own radios on the road and was letting kids what happend... that was I know cricket is game and excited to learn about.

Yesterday I watched Ind Vs WI one day match held in 1991 at Perth. During that match you held a catch running like Kapil to take catch in the historic 1983 final and we bowled out WI at 126 resulting a tie. Hope you remember!
i have not forgotten one ball that i have played, its the most satisfying thing to have played for the country no matter the records or other stats, most important is to cherish those moments and lucky and blessed to have played a small part in the scheme of things

I had the good fortune to work with Cheeka sir in 2001 and 2002. A very humble person and straight shooter. I once enquired to him about Kapil and he immediately called Kapil and spoke to him like his school friend..Kapil being another humble and down to earth person just like Cheeka....

The 84-85 match when Kapil was dropped for rash shot there was another player who was dropped for the same reason. That was Sandeep Patil. The rumor at the time was that, Gavaskar who was the captain at the time made the selectors do it. Kapil made a immediate come back in the subsequent test. That test turned out to be Sandeep Patil’s last match. He was replaced by Azharuddin... And rest as they say was history!

Cheeky Cheeka one more trivia. Had Kapil not been dropped, he would have been the player with the longest streak to play for his country without missing a single test. A record that would have remained to this date I think. I was 9 years old at the time and saw the entire test match right from the toss to the loss. It was not definitely not Kapils fault. He had scored the highest runs in the 1st innings! I don’t remember you being in that test though. Because Gavskar had opened with Anshuman Gaekwad who performed miserably. I remember my father saying that it was Gaekwad who should have been ditched. Thank you for the reply!

Cheeka I am ardent fan of you and ofcourse Kapil. I witnessed one match of yours during 76/77 at osmania university along with my friend Santhanam Iyengar. You opened with Sad bin jung in south zone inter university crckt match. At that time you were arrogant player "AT THE CREASE ". That day we predicted you wud play for India, it happened. Why I am telling this bcoz you were such a brilliant crctr. BUT... BUT... when you comment you must have some control over your tongue n respect others with dignity. அவன், இவன்.. these things you should avoid. I am 67yrs old, watching you every moment.
