That is a very good idea and used by most elevator companies as the emergency door release.
If you look at the top section of an elevator door from the outside, you'll see a small hole. You stick a device such as this into the hole, as the end of it drops down and engayes the lock mechanism. Give it a slight twist and the doors will pop open, just don't fall in!

you can unlock it by tilting the cabinet, but the idea is super if you fix the cabinet on the wall or flor
