  • A tour of the Lake District wouldn't be complete without a ride over Hardknott and Wrynose pass.
Join me on my Honda CB500x motorcycle as I take on two of the most difficult roads in the UK.
Planning a visit to the Lakes?
Here's the GPX file for the route I took.

Fair play for showing your misfortune. If that wasn't bad enough, the bikes horn switch caught on the grid, drawing attention to your calamity to people parked up and in the vicinity, was a double whammy!

I last did that in a car 25 years ago. So steep in parts that the windscreen wash wash running back up the windscreen out of the reservoir! Mod1 test next week and looking forward to doing it again on a cb500x. Thanks for showing the cattle grid. You fell off, so hopefully I don't have to! (I've learned from your mistake).

Which is never cross a grid any angle but straight up, always be super aware of wet conditions and steel, not good for rubber! And never brake whilst on the grid especially front 👍🏻

We were up there last Sunday and thought about doing the Hardknott but we got advised not to being rider and pillion and the gradient of it,So we ended up on the Honister to be fair the cattle grid looked more challenging 😂🏍🏍

Haha yea the grid caught me by surprise. Honister was great too, very long steep gradient.

Hi mate, all I can say is that it's completely doable with a pillion. I ride an Africa Twin 1100 with my wife as pillion, our last video shows us going up there with no problems (we also had a backbox full of stuff too lol). Use a lot of throttle and clutch control on the steep corners and you'll be good. Safe riding bud.

Very beautiful landscape and you drive in a correct and calm way is a good way to extend your life driving motorcycles.I am very sorry about the crash on the bike but it is always something common on a motorcycle. I'm glad nothing serious happened to you. Thanks for the video and take care.

Well it is if you're not straight up and especially so in wet conditions

I feel for you and your mishap. The bikes going, everyone look, as you try and pick the bike up quickly.
I ride a Vespa primavera and during steady rain and it was dark, I did a U-turn but didn't see the man hole cover just before the end of my U-turn, the front wheel just slid off it and it was like when Del Boy fell through the open bar door, I was like a falling tree.
It was in the high street and I managed to pick the scooter up very quickly.
Your bike refused to be picked up and shouted everyone look, lol.
Happens to everyone, great video and very courteous.

Hi mate, funnily our last video included Hardknott and that cattle grid almost took us too.... we hit it straight and it still tried to throw us. Glad you and the bike are alright, keep on riding bud.

Hello, I've just found your channel and watched a few of the videos which I enjoyed. The Honda seems well suited for the country lanes. Shame about the cattle grid but at least it didn't put you off riding the passes.

Nice!! I've been up those roads on a BMW 1200RT and an 1100RT.......tricky stuff and the camera never does the inclines and cambers justice - lucky for me I did not see any traffic on either run I did.

Its no fun dropping a bike, I have dropped every bike I have owned and its quite a few, being vertically challenged ! But least you are honest putting it on the video. Wouldn't like to ride these passes in the winter !

Must be honest, that's shity weather for those passes, I'd only do it in summer and dry weather personally, but well done sir, good ride, 👍🏻

      Thank you.
This ride was in between the 2 lockdowns in 2020. It was the tail end of summer. Checkout the other 2 vids on my Chanel for Hardknott and Wrynose pass. It was 30 degrees and clear blue skies 24 hours later.

As dramatic a setting as any you'll find in GB. Wide angle camera doesn't do the road or the rider justice, but no help for it. Pity about that grid, but kudos for sharing it.

I believe it’s the universal fitting for 7/8 bats. I got mine here.
You’ll need to choose which plastic guard you want too.

If you carry on riding these single track roads the way you have been in this clip you will end up on your arse sooner rather than later. Always stay on the left and ride in the track where the car tyres have been. On most corners there is gravel in the middle of the road which will have you arse over tit in a twink. !!! That gink on the wrong side of the road with his bike probably tried to brake whilst in the middle of the road on gravel and went straight on. Just a heads up bud, stay safe.

    • @andrewstewart106
      @andrewstewart106 4 года назад +1

I agree, left is usually best. However, on the pass in wet conditions there was often more standing water in the car tire tracks. Plus there’s poop and poor road condition to deal with, along with steep climbs and drop offs, left wasn’t always the best line.

Try riding standing you will find the machine handles better with the weight off the seat.
