100% agree with you, when i watched "Die Bad" i thought straight away about "Blue Spring". I love both. Of course i'd like to have the blu ray release, but it costs a lot to buy all the stuffs that you'd like to have when you have bills and so on to pay each month..
i can't forget this image as you said grainy for the last chapter, they know how to tell stories about friendship between men (about women it's quite rare to my point of view in that genre).
Thanks for you review Tyler, this movie is awesome.

I also think a similar story of friendship about women in this genre is very rare and hardly ever this bleak. Maybe After My Death and Kamikaze Girls on opposite extreme ends.
And I definitely feel you about the high price of owning these gems if/when they become available and being hard to afford as finances (especially for me but for many others out there as well) are becoming increasingly tight these days with so many other obligations.

@@TheMovieBeat when you say "I also think a similar story of friendship about women in this genre is very rare and hardly ever this bleak", are you talking about movies in general or life ? we have made few movies with that kind of bleakness in France, for instance, like "martyrs" and "high tension". in America you have "Monster" from Patty Jenkins. I hope i've been able to make you understand what i meant : maybe it's a question of culture.
And about getting all these gems, it is so true but quite frustrating to be an asian movie addict, it has a price !

    You still alive?
I started with Fun(ny) Movie making light of the new wave in 2003. Was hard to get a copy of this mine was waaay old but I was happy. I can’t not see each of his films.

I've still never seen this! 🙈 The only Ryu Seung-wan film I've yet to view. It was one of the few Korean New Wave films to never be released in the UK, and I could never find a decent quality copy elsewhere. Heard so many things about it over the years. I really hope this 4K remaster hits blu-ray so I can finally check it out..... and agreed how amazing would it be if all his early works could be released too. Crying Fist especially. That was my first introduction to Seung-wan, and I still think it's pound for pound his best work.

If we don't get the dream box set, Die Bad still feels like the perfect double feature to add on to the package of any one of his early films if/when (let's hope it's a matter of when) they see a blu-ray release. It's kind of hard to imagine it as a standalone since the inherently poor picture quality could scare off some publishers but perhaps (this is just wishful thinking as there are too many other classics out there) someone like Korean Film Archive or perhaps more the likely candidate WeEt Collection could put something together with a proper description of the source elements and restoration process in a booklet or opening title card to ensure viewers it's looking as intended. 🙏

I saw Die Bad long long time ago, I remember being very gritty...The only thing that was memorable was the parking lot scene...I gotta watch it again!

I think it definitely gets better with multiple viewings. The first time I watched it I had a hard time seeing the connection between each of the four segments and all the characters. Once the relationships made more sense, their evolution and growth apart became much more significant and impactful for me.
