Thanks for sharing this magical video Matt. What a treasury of cameras and knowledge. That leica ii you bought is a treasure and even with a service is a great buy!
Wow, nice you honored this great man. I have some of his cases for most of my cameras. What I really like is that most of the colors are consistent over the years, so you don't have to buy a new strap if you buy a new case
Hey Matt, excellent video content. It’s always a privilege to meet another Leica aficionado. Just my observation, but isn’t that a Leica I with the Leica II rangefinder conversion? It was the 5 digit serial number that caught my eye.
Another classic. It was great to see the interview with Luigi and hear his stories and your fill-in on them. It is all about the lens. The body is just a dark box that clicks. This is for film cameras, of course. Digital has the one film built-in and forever making it a lot more than a dark box that clicks. But it still is the lens to a great degree. Thanks, again.
what a fascinating video about the Leica iii , but what about the Leica M 1 , has Luigi got one of those , this camera always seems to get overlooked, i wondered if you could do a video one day ......
Great video Matt. I have Leicatime cases for my MP and Zeiss Ikon ZM and have had previous cases for my M3, M6 and (would you believe it) Fuji X-E1. Superb quality, and always a great service from Luigi.
Very enjoyable video Matt and it looks like you has a great time. I have a 1932 Leica ii Mod D first day edition which I picked up in Prague a few years ago, it came with great history, the owner was attached to the 310 Czechoslovakian Squadron RAF during World War 2 where they flew Spitfires. The camera remained in his family until he passed. I took it home to Dublin before sending it to Aperture in London for a full service, they were fascinated with the history of the camera. I still shoot with it regularly and if you ever find yourself in Dublin you'd be more than welcome to put a roll of film through it.
Thanks Jim and what a great sorry! Yes it's crazy to think what these cameras have been though considering they are pre-war (I often forget this!). I was happy to pick up the II D like yours to show the world what these old cameras can do (as a RUclipsr) and I love the size, look, sound etc. Beautiful cameras!
Congratulations on getting to visit Luigi ! I bet that was a day you'll never forget ! Hope the camera works out without any major repair ;) Cheers, Matt, and thanks for sharing !
I have one of the original Luigi M-series cases [and strap] with the beautiful stamped crest and script on the bottom which I don’t see anymore. Been using it for a few decades and it is still a work of useful art that protects and adds a nice grip. Thanks for the video, reminded me I want a case for my IIIb and getting one for the original smaller Barnack is not so easy to find.
Matt in the CANDY SHOP One of your best videos What an interesting man, excellent ! Those cases look so beautiful, one would buy a vintage camera only to fill the case hehehe. Thanks so much for sharing.
Nice Leica II ! With the golden brass / black paint contrast, and ‘woods’ silver thread filled top engravings, but looks like the nickel advance and rewind knobs have been replaced with chrome? Those pre-war smaller size Barnacks are still nice cameras and under appreciated as a camera to use these days.
A few years ago I bought by Luigi a superb camera halfcase with strap for my Hasselblad X-Pan II. Metal buckles on the stap are covered with sliding leather caps to not scratch the camera. The rear lcd display has a hinged leather cover The best cases for expensive cameras.
Servus Matt✌ A very interesting Matt What immediately caught my eye was a Leica M3? with brown leather in the top centre of the cabinet, I think it was an M3. I would be interested to know where he had it made or if he had already bought it like that. Or maybe I should contact him if it is possible👌
Yes it was nice! Probably reskinned. One of my Patreon has a turquoise one and I’ve used a red one too. There are places online or you can buy skins and do yourself.
I'm not THAT much of a Leica enthusiast, but your video was fun to watch. Thank you. DAG Camera Repair MAY be able to fix your shutter pinholes. Sometimes it's best to simply replace the camera shutter.
I finally got my first Luigi case for my Leica M as well as my Fujifilm X-T2. The cases and straps are works of art. I never really thought too much about cases until I bought one of his cases. I am looking to replace my original cases for my other Leica iii cameras. I do not like to take them off the camera.
I have a Luigi case for my black paint mp which has a black paint leicavit attached. The case is a little taller and designed to be used with a leicavit. It’s a very well crafted case and as is always the case. You get what you pay for.
That was definitely a red letter day. You must have been like a child in a sweet shop! I service cameras but at the moment I don't have any leicas for sale. I have some leotax and the nicca type 5 fully stripped down replacement shutter curtains etc for sale. I'm also servicing leaf shutters as well and one beautiful camera that's German made with good lenses is the Kodak retina series. I have plenty of these for sale all stripped down and serviced as per what Chris Sherlock did before he retired. I'm based in France if anyone is interested.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom thanks Matt. Chris Sherlock tells me I'd never be short of work.as people like me are in demand. Would love to see a video of the barrack style alternative cameras to Leica. I have the nicca type 5 with the back door like on the Leica M3. They are beautifully made up to Leica standards I'd say. The two I obtained had shutter curtains and ribbons that turned to dust when touched. It was a labour of love to get them both back to working condition. I'm keeping one the other I'll let go. Look forward to more videos from you soon.

I have Luigi’s case for my Nikon S-2. Burgundy leather. Unfortunately the burgundy is no longer in stock? Please Luigi… More burgundy leather (for my Leica IIIf)
My experience with Luigi's day bag for the m9 and 2 lenses was that it was beautiful but... the stitching holding the straps to the bag came undone and the red flocking came off contaminating the gear.... great when new but unusable after a few months
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom No.. being in NZ there isn't much point trying to arrange repair / replacement from Italy... just mentioning it as this episode endorses Luigi's products so viewers have the right to know.
@@camhyde9701 yes 100%. It was unpaid and not requested I was just giving my view but agree it's good to know the broader picture. You are the first to say you were not happy from the comments so far (with the kit).
