    I am in my mid-70's. I learned to write with fountain pens in school when we had real honest-to-God penmanship classes. After nearly seven decades of practice with fountain pens, I NEVER mastered flex nibs! I can do amazing things with italic nibs, but flex nibs still elude me. My compliments on your mastery of flex, DB.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  День назад

      That's odd you can't get the flex down but can do great stuff with an italic. The thing with flex is being able to really back off pressure to get the hairline and also ease into the flex. Going max flex with each stroke doesn't turn out good. The amount of flex depends on character size and hairline, etc. Sometimes to start the down stroke thin then only add a little flex then back off before you get to the bottom of the stroke. There's a bit of a balancing act which took me a little time to learn. I did a calligraphy lesson which I recorded and this helped me the most of anything I tried. It really helped with flex writing. Give it a watch if you want to give flex a try again. I found it even helped with my regular writing.

      This stacked acrylic from Magna Carta is breakable. Some rings tends to "unstuck" in the 600. Let's see how it will be in this version but based on the magna carta reputation, don't expect too much.

    Wow! Beautiful pen! It kind of reminds me of the celluloid of the Parker Vacumatic and Sheaffers of the 1940s. In terms of styling I think they should have made the Mag 600 available as a lever filler, which would have done it's 30´s vibe a bit more justice. The Mag 650 appears to be the new gold standard! Thank you so much for the upload!

    While I do kinda wish I'd held off for the 650 over the 600 (I had a feeling there would be an improved version down the line, just not so quickly!), I'm satisfied with the fact that us early adopters paved the way for MC to keep working and improving on the "new vintage flex" concept!
    Maybe the 700 will be out soon, with a cap that posts, maybe a piston filler or some other larger capacity filling system, and even more refinement to the nib and feed system, as well as more aesthetic choices 🤷‍♂

    Unfortunatly it is not a black pen. A curved down nib produces a more dry line that is desirable for fine writing and hairlines. Hairlines and flexing plays together very strongly; it controls better the tines spread turning the opening more controlable and something that happens only when you really desire. This geometry is important of a good nib behavior for spencerian and English Round Hand or other styles.

      I think nomadhawg meant a gasket or washer to sit on the shoulder of the section and seal against the end of the barrel. But yes, it would be liable to getting chewed up. If silicone grease is not acceptable, perhaps a little PTFE tape would survive more that one fill!

      If you know how to write with minimal pressure it's good for daily use. Some folks have a heavy hand so they might not want constant flex. So DB- did they adjust the nib or the feed, or both? The knock on the 600 was feed issues, dry then drippy etc. Anyone else gotten the 650 yet to compare or review? I am very interested in this pen.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  15 дней назад

      So far this is the only other person I know who got one early to review:
      instagram.com/vanessa_langton/
      The nib has a noticeably different feel to it compared to the 600. Hiren has been fine tuning the nib and came out with this one on the 650. Not sure if the 600 will end up with this new nib or not.

    What weeks did you do to your Magna Carter 600? No matter what I do, I cannot get it to write.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  13 дней назад

      I had to take the nib and feed out of the housing. I had to go back and forth a bit with adjusting the tines and also heat setting the feed. It took a bit because I would get everything perfect outside of the housing, but when I would install the nib & feed back in it would all change. It took a fair amount of time but it writes very well now. The 650 was perfect out of the box and the nib is very soft and bouncy. Feels like vintage to me

      @Doodlebud  13 дней назад

      @@stuartrosenthal7646 it's both. You can unscrew the full nib unit or pull out the nib & feed from the housing. Only do this is you're very comfortable with adjusting nibs. This one is a bit tricky because is so flexible

    Totally nothing to do with this video. Which I did enjoy, but how are you still liking the wing sung 630. Is it holding up long term? Would you say that it is worth getting with a gold nib or is the steel good enough?

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  14 дней назад +1

      WS 630 is a great pen. I got the heartbeat nib to try out and I'm not as much of a fan. I think the regular 14K nib would have been a better choice. It is a decent nib and any other pen with a gold nib of that size would cost so much more.
      You can also always buy a steel nib with it and switch back and forth if you like. They have some new colors that came out as well:

    Not cheap by any means, but comparen to a european brand you get a much better value for the money spent. If there was a finish without the sparkle of the 650, would definitely get one

    Dear Doodle Bud,
    You are an evil man! Stop making these videos, they are costing me a small fortune. LOL. I just received my Magna Carta 650. YOU WERE NOT KIDDING! This is a beautiful pen and nib. I took a chance as I hate flex nibs. This one on the other hand is spectacular. I can't wait to see Herin at the SF Pen Show to congratulate him on a job well done. Thank you for your videos. I just need more self control. I'm off to practice my flexing. I promise to use safe flex.
