A weakness can be a strength, and vice versa. ie The fact the gorilla tape is less sticky can be a good thing if it means you can reposition it or peel it off more easily. Same with the stretching. Also you get twice the amount for the buck. Gorilla wins overall if you ask me!

The Gorilla Tape stretched but then returned to the original length after you set the weight down, which comports to your early on comment that the Gorilla Tape felt "rubbery".
The Gorilla Tape would have won hands down if it had the same adhesion as the Flex Tape. The fact that you pulled the backing from the Gorilla Tape easier demonstrated why it didn't stick quickly.
Good test and fair evaluation. Thanks for the comparison.

    Thanks dude,
I have a pretty big drain pipe leak under my kitchen sink so this demo was helpful in showing that while one brand may be a bit better than the other both of them work.
Providing my issue can even be fixed with adhesive tape, temporarily or not, something I am really hoping will be the case because otherwise I'll have to buy a new counter as its rotting underneath, sink and piping which we all know will lead to new cabinets and drawers etc. and I don't want to spend what little money I have left (emphasis on "little" thanks to covid causing me my job) redoing my kitchen.

I used Gorilla patch and seal for my Rv roof. I like it better than flex tape because it has more flex and stretches better plus you get twice as much for the same price. I do recommend if you're using it for a roof patch to make sure you clean the area well and honestly using a putty knife to push it down is helpful too but I feel like it's a better product all around.

In Wisc we have property and have a trailer and behind trailer we have a large vinyl garage that we store mowers, ladders etc inside. One year a heavy tree branch fell on it and punctured the vinyl garage, and left a hole w a tear about 4x7 inches. Various patches would not stay, but about 2-3 years ago I bought some Flex tape and applied it from inside of vinyl garage and the hole was on the curved area of the vinyl garage. I applied a large strip of FlexTape w about 2-3” excess past the hole on each side, And I have to say I’m very happy with the results! Worked excellent for my purpose.
Tried some on roof of our trailer though but it did not stay. Maybe flex paste would. I may try that next.

Not a permanent solution, but then again, I can't afford to remodel my bathroom. I think the fact that they sell twice as much at the same price, says a lot. I used Flex Tape last year. I had major difficulty trying to cut it because the glue from the tape stuck to my scissors and also to a knife I tried to use. It was also next to impossible to start peeling the backing off. I was using my fingernail to try to separate the backing. I finally got the backing off, and the tape is still holding over a year later on an inside project. But edges of the tape are starting to lift up on the outside project. I also tried the liquid on a metal shed roof, but it wouldn’t spread. I think the metal was just too hot. The temperature was in the nineties and the roof was in direct sunlight. So I didn’t finish the shed roof, but I’m going to try again, now that it’s cooler outside.

I much prefer FLEX spray and tape for water leaks specifically. I had a leak in my pond where my water source came up into my upper retain basin. I used flex spray all underneath it and stopped the leak. Even after 17 degree temps it is still holding. Used the FLEX tape to cover a crack in water supply line. This stuff is amazing. I have also used FLEX caulk and construction adhesive. Awesome. However, If I have to bind or repair anything away from water, Gorilla is my go-to, especially on wood- Gorilla Glue is the king!! Both amazing product lines, but I go by what my application is going to be.

Actually there are A LOT of variables in trying to do testing like this. How big the hole is and how deep the water is make sure you difference and pressures and what not. So doing a test in a bucket isn't going to relate to a hole in the side of an above ground pool towards the bottom cuz there's crazy amount more pressure and weight pushing down on it. Good preliminary testing regardless so at least I have an idea of what I'm looking at now so thanks.

I've seen around on youtube Flex Tape works well on fixing air mattresses, so whatever works best for patching a hole on an air mattress. Seems like typical tape doesn't really do so well. I haven't tried duct tape yet, but I've heard it doesn't do so well either to cover a hole on an air mattress.

I have a flat roof that has Gaco silicone coating on it. It developed a few cracks and was leaking. After watching your video I went out and purchased one roll of each. It was barely sprinkling when I attempted to make the patch. However I made sure that I wipe the area down with dry rags and also sprayed it with alcohol to facilitate the water evaporating. It certainly wasn’t completely dry but there were no drops of water. Sadly neither products worked at all. In fact when I went to rub them down they kept moving because they did not adhere. I will try it again on a sunny warm day but as far as it’s sticking to moisture that did not happen in my case. It may be because it doesn’t stick to silicone.

Thank you for this demonstration Jeff. I definitely feel flex tape is worth trying on the slice I accidentally made in our plastic pond liner while trying to trim silicone away from a drain that was sealed to a hole made in the bottom of it. Do you think that this tape could be shaped around the drain, to ensure a smoother surface, for a flat rubber plug to rest upon?
I used a lot of silicone to secure the drain. I also tried to repair the slice I made, with additional silicone.
Would the set silicone applications need to be completely removed, before taping with the flex tape, for a proper adhesion? Or could I work the flex tape over the silicone as it is, and still achieve the seal that I am hoping for?

Had a small hole in my kiddie pool that needed to be patched. Bought the Gorilla Tape since is was twice the length of the Flextape for the same price. I also found that the Gorilla Tape took some time to get it to stick to the pool liner. Put a patch on both the inside and the bottom of the pool liner. Will check this afternoon to see if the patch has sealed. The only problem I had was getting the roll to start unrolling. The edge of the roll had adhered to the black face and it took some doing and tearing of the tape to get it going. Was a little surprised at how well it had stuck to the black face since when I pulled off the clear liner, the tape did not seem that aggressively sticky. Thanks for this video, it really helped!

Hi Jeff, Thank you so much for this review. I am a person who loves DIY projects and was looking for a strong and waterproof tape. This video was extremely helpful in making my decision. I will definitely be using Flex tape for most projects however. I will also keep the Gorilla tape around as an alternative if needed. Hey! I am trying to find some waterproof tape to fix my above ground pool I am so glad I ran into your channel. I was on the fence about which one of these to get. I think I've decided on the flex tape even though I am going to have to use more than one roll. I actually didn't like the way the gorilla tape performed. The liner is coming detached from the rim of the pool and the gap is quite wide long and wide. This has been going on for a while so I figured I had better do something. Hi Jeff, i was wondering if Flex Tape or flex glue would be good to seal old cracks in my loungeroom which is lined with plaster board that has cracked because my house stumps move throughout the year from weather variations? Does it have any "give" for seasonal movement?
Also i have a windowseal that is made up of two 5cm horizontal running wood but noticed theres a small gap between them that goes all along the outside windowseal & im hard to know if rain may be getting into the old outside wood walls underneath the sill as the whole house has been covered by some outdoor weather/ insulating horizontal covering that many of the old houses have around these parts. Problem with the insulating plastic(?) is that i can't see the condition of the timber underneath.
Any suggestions re the inside gyprock wall cracks & whether i should be using the tape or some kind of bog like sikaflex or "no more gaps"
    Thankyou for any advice :)
